Flood was my personal favorite of the names, and he's apparently happening, so hallelujah.

TE I'm genuinely curious who his backup choice is. Great spot for a rainmaker guy.

My bigger attraction to Banks was taking his Texas recruiting away from Bama.....he is far more replaceable to me then Flood for this staff.

Yeah, I’m lower on Wiggins than most of the other names rumored at the position. I hope he goes elsewhere at that spot.

Sucks it’s a no on Banks. I don’t think we’ve heard many other names at TE.

Whats the negative on Wiggins?  2022 recruits seem to love him and by all accounts he has done an awesome job at Bama both coaching and recruiting?

There may be bigger fish out there, but I don't see a negative to Wiggins.

If Banks doesn't come it is disappointing, but there are other rainmaker recruiters you can stick at TE.

I don't remember "dancing bears," (other than Henry Melton, in my mind) but I was super pumped about us utilizing the blocking sled once again back during the Mack era.

I believe Tim Nunez called Leonard Davis the dancing bear.... a little further back then you were thinking.

When I hear Babers asking if Sark is a clear upgrade and saying that Sark and Herman are pretty much the same guys so why make the change, then that makes me think he thinks something other than football acumen is the deciding factor.  I'm not saying he is right but I can see where some could take it poorly.

If Babers is really being that lazy in considering Sark and Herman are the same guy.....I mean to read idiots that know nothing on this board or their equivalents in the media say it is one thing....But I thought Babers had more actual football sense than this.

This past weekend, we mentioned recently hired Arkansas State OC, AJ Milwee as a possible candidate for a position on the staff (link here):

Source added, “Sark is trying to take a few guys from Bama that Butch (Jones) wanted. AJ Milwee, a real up and comer on the offense as a position coach and maybe future OC”

This morning Football Scoop appears to be reporting that this is now a done deal saying, in part, “Sources tell FootballScoop that AJ Milwee is set to come aboard as quarterbacks coach.”

    See the full report here.

They seem to also be saying that the Kyle Flood deal is done, as well, although that isn’t quite as clear in the article. I have checked with my Bama source on that and am waiting to hear back. That’s the big hire. Texas has struggled for a long time to really get the offensive line right. And if Flood can do that – and I believe he can – then it will resolve a lot of the issues Texas has had the past, well, decade.

Gabe is certainly happy about this Milwee hire. He’s liked him going back a few years. And I will say Gabe was advocating for Texas hire Lincoln Riley away from East Carolina the year before the Sooners did, so hopefully his excitement about Milwee is a good sign.

Again Flood would be huge to me. Haven't been this pumped for Oline stuff since we had coaches talking about "Dancing Bears"

Is Tee Martin still a terror on the recruiting path?  He was a beast back in the day.  But seems like some of his polish has maybe worn off.  I think I read he and Pruitt had a falling out over a leak to the media.  And maybe he's kind of mailed it in.  Personally, give me the TCU WR coach, the guy from Kansas, or the guy from USC before Tee Martin.  I think WR coach is probably the easiest coaching position to fill too.  If you aren't dumb and worried only about alignment that is.

In any case, I think if there is one coach on the team I'd rather get a guy that is a better coach than a recruiter, it'd be at the WR spot.  Now he truly has to be a good coach though, meaning an upgrade from Coleman who was seen as a good coach (but maybe only in comparison to Meh).  But if the Bama WR coach wants to come here, giddy up.  High School WRs grow on trees and they are plentiful.  You don't have to get the #1 or #2 wr in the country every year.  You can find guys that can be successful.  And if we can come close to replicating the Bama offense, and win, and start to get guys drafted, kids will want to come even if the wr coach isn't exactly a rainmaker.  Plus, if we truly are going to start playing the game, that's what is truly going to give us a better shot at the #1 and #2 type wr recruits more than a personable wr coach.

People keep talking about Sark having a sobriety clause.....if we bring in Tee there better be a baby mama clause by all accounts.

  7. I am pumped for Flood as Oline coach.  Finally a quality oline coach.  Course I thought the same when Wickline came here, but apparently Flood actually likes to recruit--The Brocks mentioned him and his coaching as a big part of the Bama appeal.  Not sure if that is just yacking or not but it's there.

I am not sweating S&C hire.  Sark had a good one by all accounts at both UW and USC and I can't imagine he isn't aware of the importance after being around Carol and Saban.

On the Muschamp front---Didn't Football Scoop or TFB say they weren't buying the Muschamp is out talk and think it is just negotiating between Will and Texas at the moment?  The whole floating Derek Mason's name was referred to as leverage in negotiations correct? I believe they said Mason's side doesn't believe Texas will actually offer him and that they are just negotiating with their real target?

I like Muschamp as a DC.....he was a little too bend but don't break against tech compared to how some others attacked the spread but I'd still take him back.

So I know CFB is all cut-throat and stuff, but is there not an unwritten rule that you don't take large chunks of the staff with you when you depart? It's not that I don't like the Alabama assistants, but it seems really strange that there's no anti-poaching clauses. Maybe that's what you guys were referring to with the special titles? No lateral poaching?

That's a contract thing. Typically done by smaller schools to prevent bigger schools from money whipping someone for a lateral move.  My brief googling shows that Bama, along with Texas and many other "Blue bloods" doesn't typically include this in contracts.

Also, it seems pretty typical when someone leaves bama for a HC gig they tend to take a few coaches with them.

I have pronounced loudly and clearly how stupid I think this hire is. The fact that it was so loud, and so clear, means I'm probably gonna have a zillion responses that I really don't want to read.

So, here's the only reason I'm saying something now. I really don't want anyone to misinterpret the fact that I'm ignoring their responses to my prediction that we've just hired Howard Fucking Schnellenburger. I still love you as fellow Longhorns fans, and if you turn out to be right and I turn out to be wrong, I will be as fucking happy as a fucking clam (and we all know how happy clams are when they are fucking).

I am just depressed as shit by this turn of events, which I see as worse than having left well enough fucking alone, so forgive my invective.

I will love it beyond belief if I turn out to be wrong.

Then do us all a favor you whiney tool.  TAKE THAT DISCUSSION TO A THREAD THAT IS ACTUALLY DISCUSSING IF SARK IS A GOOD HIRE OR NOT AND KEEP IT THE HECK OUT OF THE STAFF THREAD!   Caps were so you didn't misunderstand what I was trying to convey.

Stoops just seemed like people looking at who was on the Bama staff/analyst list identifying who had been prior coordinators, then who had been there a little while or whose terms matched up with Sark then identifying them as a potential name

...at least that is what I am hoping happened.

because there is no fucking way that Mike Stoops is a good hire for any program at this point in time.

I agree, people don't know squat about the staff situation and 9.95ers were all caught so flat footed about the fire and hire that some (FCB) were just throwing out names that were tangetally connected to Sark and had name recognition. Of course those same idiots(FCB) wouldn't have the mental capacity to realize that it is 2000 and Mike Stoops is not a splash hire....

So, I just listened to his press conference.  And while overall I found him likable and thought he said the right things, this line stuck with me as I thought I remembered him being the OC at USC during those years when they had Joe McKnight and like 5 other 5 star RBs that all split carries.

And he was.  And in both 2007 and 2008, USC didn’t have a 1,000 yard rusher. They ran the ball fine with a bunch of different guys, but that’s not what he said.

For him to make that specific claim and clearly have it teed up as his canned answer - and for it to actually be completely false - is not the most encouraging thing in the world.   Not as bad as Herman melting down on the Houston radio show or hiring Casey Horny, but still a bit of an eyebrow raiser for me to be honest.

    1. Take that discussion. To a thread that isn't about staff hires.

  12. Well after a 2 month or so foray onto the football board my IQ is definitely reduced....anyway...Sark has some solid potential.....he kind of reminds me of a low floor high ceiling recruit....He could fail spectacularly if things go badly but could be amazing....beats Herman or a high floor liw ceiling guy like campbell..

He’s been an OL coach a long time, no doubt. Not a lot of issues with him being the OL coach.
Just not sure how concerns about the guy being an OC were going to be washed away by bringing up the fact he’s coached one NFL draft class at Bama emoji2371.png

Pretty certain the OC thing is just a title.  He'll be the OL coach.
