  1. I've been to 14 I think. Oracle is definitely top 3, but I'm biased. I agree that the Nationals stadium is pretty terrible. It just doesn't have anything uniquely appealing about it. Camden, on the other hand, just up the road in Baltimore is an absolute gem. That park really set off the trend of moving parks back into the urban core and making them an anchor for placemaking and revitalization.

  2. Well, fortunate for you HB 2812 has no chance of passing since it was never even given a hearing, and the deadline for getting one has long passed. I'd recommend you stay on top of this issue, though, and schedule a meeting with her during the interim (between June of this year to December of next year). And keep your eyes out to see if she files the bill again in the '27 session. If she does, get involved in the legislative process from the outset. You'd be surprised the impact even one motivated constituent can have on the legislative process if you're committed to being engaged in it.

Rate of Left-Handedness in the US: Stigma & Society - Slow Reveal Graphs

The Latin word for left is "sinistra." It's the origin of the word "sinister." In Ancient Rome, if you were born left-handed, you were presumed to be evil because you were in the minority. Some of that folklore made its way into more modern times hence the graph above - basically forcing southpaws to use their right hand to fit in with the majority. I'm fairly certain that's what you were getting at.

  4. Because it's a dumb exercise to begin with if it's epidemiologists researching it. Do you need epidemiologists to document the number of "straight" cases we have every year and what can be done to treat them?

    • Haha 1
  5. Not sure you know that everyone's physical, emotional, psychological, etc. traits and characteristics are on a spectrum yet somehow we're supposed to believe sexual orientation and gender are somehow exclusively binary.

Yeah that must be it. Certainly no other factors involved. Epidemiologists on both sides of the Atlantic have just whiffed on it.

Our DNA doesn't code in binary. There. Solved it for them.

Rates of newly recorded transgender identity during 2000-18, by age group

Oh geez, I can't imagine why the numbers would trend up as it's become more socially acceptable to be out as trans. Really going to have to spend hours if not days trying to figure that one out. And we're talking an increase from what 20 to 80 per 100,000. The graph just makes it look way out of proportion.

No one is telling you to treat trans as sub humans. That's just political rhetoric.

But maybe don't funnel undeveloped children that have been brain damaged (their parents as well) by social media contagion into a life changing hormone treatments.

You got your altar, brisket. Worship at it. It's a fickle beast.

Trans kids pre-date social media. I'd say stop being obtuse, but that's pointless with you.

Big fan of The National and Matt.  They put out lots of good stuff.  Like the 80s New Order influence.  Hope you like it too.

Listened to this on repeat when it dropped a few weeks ago. Matt's solo stuff has been underwhelming but holding out hope this next album is way better. This track is certainly a very promising start.

  10. Car Seat Headrest just released The Scholars last week, and it might be the next great rock opera album. Too many tracks to highlight, but I will say the 19 minute Planet Desperation could be a stand alone EP. As it's a concept album, it's best to listen start to finish. There's a lot to unpack with the lyrics and storyline, but man, does this album deliver on all fronts.

Does SF still have Tyler whatsHisName in the bullpen, the “submarine” guy? Or did they trade him around?

He’s something else to watch, I’ll give him that. Almost looks underhand, he leans over so much.

Yep, that's Tyler Rogers. He has a twin brother, Taylor, who was also with the Giants the past two seasons. At one point late last season, they had several identical stats.

My father is in the bargaining stage. He was planning to retire any year now but now I don't know. Considering he is a doctor my main alarm was he gave RFK Jr. and his autism claims too much oxygen. Not vaccinations necessarily but some external force causing a rise in non-functional autistics recently. I imagine I have the opinion of most on here but I would like to find some robust and durable research either debunking or confirming his fears. He cited two California studies but I have not been able to find anything credible.

We were also binging 'The Last of Us' and I was surprised he was annoyed at the mention of Global Warming. Dude, this hasn't been debatable for a long time now.

I kept my mouth shut and enjoyed our family time.  He has contributed far more positive to society than not.

The rise in autism really isn't a "rise." It's just a more accurate representation of how many people are classified as such given increased detection and a broader definition of the spectrum.

It would be like blaming the 300% increase in breast cancer cases to some environmental factor when it's not due to that at all. It's due to better early screening methods and routine mammograms that just weren't a thing a generation ago.

Trump would never bring back an illegal immigrant into the country. This was never going to happen.

Since this is a political board, its bad politics for Dems to make this an issue. Arguing for an illegal/undocumented immigrant to be forced back is a loser issue. Dems need winning issues. Even calling it a constitution crisis is a losing issue based on this case itself.

There are some olds in a deep red corner of Iowa who'd strongly disagree.

I was just coming here to see if anyone had a code. Anything for tomorrow’s LiveNation presale?

I assume the artist presale is out already.

You had to register in advance for the presale code, and then they texted it 30 minutes before tix went on sale. The codes were all unique - not sure if LiveNation will be the same. I haven't seen any info on that. You could still try getting an artist presale code now.

  15. Just got LCD Soundsystem tix for Emo's on 4/22. And have tix for Japanese Breakfast the next night. That'll be fun.

LCD Soundsystem is doing three nights at Emo's. Presale today. General sale is Friday.

  16. February - Austin Marathon (pacer)
February - Disney Princess Half Marathon (Orlando)
    April - Cap 10K (Austin)
September - USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships (did this last year and loved it), TBD location
December - The Marathon Project (Tuscon)

I'll sprinkle in a couple 5Ks and maybe another 10K in there too. Back to the majors in '26 for Boston and Berlin.

  17. Haven't checked in here in awhile. Lots of inspiring triathlon content as of late. Way to get after it everyone!

Did the Indianapolis marathon last weekend, and I highly recommend it. The course is comparable to Houston. Finally got a PR again with a 2:45. I had been sitting on my old PR for almost 3 years.

It's taken several days to recover from the shock that half this country elected one of the most vile, weak candidates in US history.  Much like I did in 2016, I'm taking stock of having Trump as President to see if there is anything of value that he could deliver, given his first Presidency was nothing but a coattail ride on Obama and on the Republicans who cut taxes to artificially juice the markets, in exchange for nation-crippling debt levels. So let's take a look:

    1. Republican action on deficit reduction/govt spending -  yes, these toddlers having full control of the government is quite unnverving.  However, because they refused to work with Democrats to solve problems from Obama forward, being the toddlers they are, maybe they will tackle the deficit with a plan that doesn't go too deep on cost-cutting and raises some taxes somewhere, somehow. I highly doubt it, but we will wait and see. The good news is that if they just cut taxes and balloon the deficit even more, or cut government spending too hard and fast, the economy will fall apart and a Democrat or moderate Republican will be President in 2028.

    2. Republican action on Medicare and Social Security stabilization - same as above. Because they are toddlers who refuse to govern when not in control, maybe they will do something now that is only partially devastating to the aging, not fully devastating. At least it's not ignoring the problem, like they've done to date with a Democrat in the Presidency.

    3. Healthcare - Obamacare is not perfect. Maybe they do replace it with something that works better. I highly doubt it because they have no plan and don't seem to want one, but there is room for improvement. Who am I kidding, there is no way this one becomes a positive.

    4. Ukraine Foreign Policy - The US has been footing the bill for Ukraine, and even though a lot of that money goes back to US companies, maybe there is a solution there that doesn't involve the Ukraine being partially for fully taken over. I highly highly doubt it. But, it seems half of Americans don't care, which is amazing to me.

    5. China Foreign Policy - I've been a huge critic of China for a long time and whether it's tariffs or something else, I'm all for developing some sort of improved relationship where the trade isn't so imbalanced and Taiwan doesn't get invaded.  But in my opinion, nothing good will happen, just like nothing good happened during his first four years.  I do think there is a nonzero chance China holds off on invading Taiwan until 2028+ because they probably do think Trump is an unhinged idiot who would launch a nuclear weapon, which he probably would. So that's a positive I guess.

    6. Immigration - Biden was slow to do anything about immigration and Trump torpedo'ing the immigration bill was bs, but we do need to have more secure borders, so maybe this time they can do it without as many human rights violations? Doubtful, but we can hope.

Unfortunately, all of the following will definitely get worse because he's President:

    1. Hate speech and actions will continue to rise quickly.

    2. Wealth inequality will soar, with billionaires becoming even more insanely wealthy

    3. Other foreign relations will be a disaster; we will get no support anywhere in the world for anything

    4. Women's rights will continue to erode substantially.

    5. Separation of christian religion and state will erode substantially.

    6. Palestinians could be substantially worse off.

    7. Minority, LBGTQ rights will erode substantially.

As I type this, I can't believe people voted for this.  Nevermind, yes I can.

But on the upside, eggs will be fifty cents cheaper.

The big thing is whether the GOP did truly eat into their E-Day votes this time around.  And it looks quite possible, which is likely why Ralston predicts Harris wins the state.

The dooming over AZ is something to behold - yes, the GOP has a massive edge, but this is the state of McCain Republicans.  And indies are 700k early votes.

The largest political constituency in Arizona is Independents. They just surpassed registered republicans last year. My brother is one of them, and he loathes trump. There are a lot of sensible mavericks in Arizona which is why McCain was so beloved.
