    #1A/B. Eric and Beet

    #3. Hank

Honorable mention- Wendy, Big Foot, and Riley

Elliot Offen could have been up there - He was great and probably could have had a Eric like run if he didn't freak the fuck out and get banned.

Eric and Wendy are my #1A and #1B. Significant drop off after that.

Wendy was way down on my list, but she had a late career renaissance that skyrocketed her up the chart.

So the Giants have played themselves out of selling right? I don’t think they’re actually good, but they’re only 2 back of a playoff spot

Lifelong Giants fan here, so I'll give my perspective. I'd like to keep Bumgarner and maybe ship off a reliever (Watson) to address something like infield help.

The thing about the Giants is that the WS teams never looked good on paper. That's why it's no surprise Derka says they wouldn't compete against the Yankees, Astros, etc. that are far more talented. But guys like Aubrey Huff, Cody Ross, Travis Ishikawa and Marco Scutaro were the reasons the team hung 3 banners in 5 years. Not exactly household or marquee names.

Giants teams have always relied on solid rotation, good bullpen and timely hitting from guys that rise up at the right moments. Zaidi seems to have found one of those Huff, Ross, Scutaro types in Alex Dickerson. He's not exactly a journeyman, but he was written off by the Padres and has found new life with the Giants. The other core guys from past WS teams that have either battled injuries or slumps are all showing glimpses of returning to their former selves albeit older. Posey, Belt, Crawford and Panik are seasoned guys when it comes to October baseball, so it would be interesting to see how they step up if given a chance in the playoffs.

The other thing no one has talked about is the return of Cueto. He's facing live batters now and is on track to return in September. Bum - Cueto as a 1-2 could make things interesting from a top of the rotation perspective especially combined with the Giants' deep, quality relief staff. A lot of the elements that were there in '10, '12, '14 and even '16 (eliminated by the eventual WS Champion Cubs) are there again with this '19 team.

Of course, they can't keep winning at this pace (17-3 in last 20 games). They can only hope this type of baseball and mentality will continue, and maybe it will be enough to earn them a WC berth.

The Giants won again in 16. 9 in a row for them

13-2 in the last 15 games. It certainly makes the front office decision-making difficult ahead of the trade deadline.

Thanks bud! Nice to have a good result after a frustrating spring!

Man, you crushed that course. Well done, and a hearty congrats!! It looks like that Buffalo Springs IM is attracting some top flight talent making your results all the more impressive.

It's funny because the Community First Village that everyone touts as such a success and blueprint to follow is actually out in the country.

It's across from the Expo Center and is serviced by Cap Metro, so not exactly in the sticks. And the original site was within the city limits, but the neighborhood opposed it. Thus, they moved to where there were no neighbors.

    See Formula 1

Formula 1 doesn't have any accompanying hometown allegiances or pride. To the extent Austin takes ownership of the team, it will be a successful franchise.

I bet less than half of the people putting in a deposit actually purchase season tickets.

Well, of course. You're reserving a place in line, and most people probably put down deposits along with other people they intend to sit with. Then, you'll end up choosing seats from the account that has the best spot in the line among that group.

That said, I have no doubt that overall season ticket purchases will still be very high. Season 1 should be a sellout for most games. It's the novelty of having a pro franchise, and it's the only pro game in town. How the franchise does in year 2, 3 and 4 will be the real test of the market, and I think that will largely come down to the game day experience and atmosphere.

Not really. I looked at Houston for an example, and it looks like anywhere from around $400 to well into the several thousands depending on location and amenities.

I did the same and came up with the same range. Cheap seats around $500 up to around $2K for premium seats with club access + parking. That's for 20 matches - 17 regular season plus a few extra matches.

Austin FC president did say their cheapest season tickets would be close to the $20 level that they guaranteed Austin City Council as part of the stadium deal (as in a certain percentage of tickets have to be priced at $20).

  10. I'm guessing season tickets deposits as well. They said spring '19 for that a couple of months ago, and we're running out of spring '19 days.

I'm not sold on this format as the best way to determine a champion.  OkState beat everyone by 30 strokes.  They have been the clear #1 team all year and were clearly the best team here, notwithstanding that one match against Texas.  This format ramdomizes the process a little too much for my liking.

I agree it sucks for OSU, but man I love the high stakes nature of match play.

Signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon in October.   Will be my first full in five years, and my first time training through a Texas summer.   I've been running in the mornings this year, and I'm planning to run commute to the office late in the cycle when I get up to 8-10 mile wednesday runs.  Any other tips from you seasoned veterans on how to avoid dying in August?

With MCM, your most strenuous weeks won't be until late September / early October depending on how you prefer to train. At that point, the early morning temps tend to get below 70 so you have that going for you. In the summer, I'm outdoors two to three times a week and then on a treadmill for easy days. Do some climate-controlled runs if you can especially if it's not a quality workout day. Pop some salt tabs during your outdoor long runs, and start super early.

Just don't wear yourself out and get mentally exhausted come August.  You'll start to despise your training and resent signing up for an early fall marathon, and it may affect your mentality leading up to the race. Also, don't focus too much on hitting the marathon goal pace. Just focus on the quality of the workouts.

I am really fighting the urge to do the Ironman 70.3 next year in Chattanooga after watching several people I know do it last Sunday.I really don’t want to buy a $2,500 bike and all of that shit but I cannot shake the feeling of wanting to challenge myself as half’s are starting to get boring and I want to progress and push myself. Am I an idiot?

IMO you don't need a $2,500 bike if your goal is to just to finish a half Ironman. You can get a serviceable one that will perform well for half that or less. If you decide to do it, spend a lot of the time in open water training. There are a lot of elements to open water swimming that can't be replicated in a pool (mainly the mental side of things).

  14. Really happy for Bruce and the team. I've gotten to know Bruce really well since he moved to Austin as he's our neighbor. I'm admittedly biased, but I think he deserves the job. I'm encouraged that others feel the same. I know he's been heavily involved in the recruiting side of things for the past few years, so I assume the relationships he needs in that department are pretty well developed.

Regarding the match, I was really impressed by the way the guys came out at singles and got up a set in 4 matches to set the tone. Clearly they tuned out all of the hype about how Wake doesn't drop singles points especially at lines 1 - 3. I was most impressed by Yuya and Scott bouncing back. Those matches completely turned in the second set. Obviously, we didn't need Scott's point, but he was on cruise control.

Congrats on 10th place!!!! Hope those bone spurs heal, I've never had to deal with them.

My Boston Marathon - went exactly as I planned.  I ran a little faster than through the first half, just staying with the thousands of other runners.  I high-fived a ton of kids, soaked in Wellesley College girls, stopped and gave my niece a hug at mile 14, and felt strong through the Newton hills.  I stopped on Heartbreak Hill and finally had a couple of beers (plastic cup size, not full size cans) with the BU kids.  Got going again and just had fun running it in.  I saw my wife and kids on Bolyston, while I was stopping to give them all a hug, I was waived off and told to finish strong.  So that's it, no more Boston, no more marathons.

I bought a road bike and am waiting for that sucker to come in.  I'm going to continue to run and bike, have fun and maybe just maybe get little faster in each one.  I'm trying something new with my running this summer, we'll see what that brings or doesn't.  Might help if I were to put down a cookie or two or three.

What a way to retire from marathons. Congrats on your storied tenure as a marathoner. I've really enjoyed following you through the years, and I've learned a lot about my own regimens and how to get faster because of you. I hope you'll continue to give advice / feedback and keep us updated on your future endeavors.

Ran Boston.  Weather was a little unpredictable, but we ended up with a nice stretch where there was no rain.  It was a little humid and a little warm, but could have been a lot worse.   My plan was to go for 2:45 regardless and was on pace till the hills.  For the hills, I was going to not fight them and hope I still had legs to close the last 5.   Turned out I did not.   Salvaged a 2:49 without dying too much.  Cardio wise, it felt great, but the legs just did not want to turn over fast.  I'm pretty happy overall!

Excellent job, man!! I heard some recaps, and weather seemed to be more problematic than you described ... at least for the runners in my group. I heard it rained all morning and after it tapered off, it left the air too warm and heavy. Getting under 3:00 in the conditions is very impressive. You should revel in that.

    Congrats Clintonaldo!!  Great time!!!

Last marathon coming up in a few hours.  No time goal.  Just finish and move on.  I’m done with long distance for the foreseeable future.  I just haven’t had fun with it for a few years.  No regrets, I had a great run at marathons. I think I could have beaten my current PR by about 2 minutes, but that was interrupted with a triathlon and my dad turning 70.   I still really enjoying running but will race shorter distances and mix it up with some trail races or even off the wall races.  I got into good shape this go around  I finally beat my time up this steep hill and was able to log some fast miles around town, but mentally I’m spent   No excitement for towing the line these days

With the Texas heat around the corner time to cut my mileage back and focus getting faster on the bike.

I'm sad to hear that. But I understand - there's nothing more miserable than slogging through long runs when you can't find enjoyment in it. Look forward to following you in other endeavors - trail runs, tris, whatever. Good luck today!
