the original story on this, that came out in the aas about a year ago, is that the padres were moving the missions from san antonio to amarillo, the rangers were moving the express to san antonio, (san antonio would get a triple a team), and the astros would move their triple a team from fresno to round rock.  about a month ago there was another article in the aas saying the ryan's hadn't agreed on what to do with round rock yet.  that's a real bummer.  i would love to see the express go back to an astros affiliate.

Absolutely right about the AA Missions going to Amarillo under a new name. I think moving a AAA team to San Antonio was contingent upon a new downtown ballpark which to my knowledge isn't happening any time soon.

Holy shit, you ain't kidding.  I live in the Bay Area but don't follow the Giants (or MLB).  Belt is leading the team in average, HR and RBI.  Hope he stays in this groove.

He's making a strong case for his second ASG appearance.

    NL Ranks
    OPS - 2nd
    WAR - 4th
    HR - 5th
    BA - 8th
    RBIs - 12th

Among 1Bs, only Freeman can match his numbers so far.

Great job dude. Sounds just like me. My first marathon was 3:47, and second one was 3:37. I still haven’t done a European marathon. I entered the London Marathon lottery so crossing my fingers. And desperately want to run Berlin.

And fantastic job Clintonaldo. 1:42 for your first half is bad ass. I’m with HRMaddie. You just need to put more miles on your legs. You’ll be in the 1:35 range with the right preparation.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Berlin marathon.

And I echo your sentiments to Clintonaldo. 1:42 is a killer time for a first half. It must be the soccer pedigree. I ran cross country in high school, and the soccer team was forced to train with us. Most of those guys were naturally gifted distance runners, but they mostly hated running outside of soccer.

  4. I ran my first international marathon last weekend (5/13) in Belgium/Netherlands. I finished in 3:37:52 which was 10 minutes faster than my previous marathon in January. The race started in the small Belgian town of Vise and went along the Meuse river. We crossed into the Netherlands, went through Maastricht and returned along the other side of the Meuse river back into Vise. The race was picturesque - I couldn't have asked for better surroundings. The temps were favorable too, and the course was mostly flat.

I had some minor anxiety in that I wasn't sure how the hydration stations would work. They claimed that you needed to bring personal drinks (refillable bottles / camelbacks) in lieu of water stops. That turned out to not be the case. You had that option, but they had traditional water stops as well every 5 km. They also had "sponging stations," which I had never seen before. You got a sponge with your registration packet, and you could use that to sponge down at the water stops.

I was impressed by the overall fitness level of the participants. It seemed like everyone took running seriously, and the majority of runners were affiliated with running groups or clubs. In the states, I see a lot of people who are just checking the box to say they've completed a marathon and don't really care about their training leading up to it or their time. That definitely wasn't the case with this race, and I don't know if that's typical of European races or if this one just drew a more competitive crowd.

I'm taking a summer break and will resume a more serious training regimen this fall with Rogue. Looking forward to working with a coach for the first time and being around some runners that can push me to beyond what I think are my limits. And as always, I look forward to checking in on this thread and reading about everyone else's races and training.

Headed to SF in August for the Astros series. Any suggestions for where to sit for both games?

Anywhere. AT&T has absurdly great sight lines throughout the park.

My favorite sections are 104-110 (lower box) along the 1st base line (visitor's dugout as well). You'll be looking out towards the bay from that vantage point. I'd recommend walking around the entire park especially along the arcade above McCovey Cove. You won't miss any action, and you'll be able to take in your surroundings which are pretty spectacular.  If you can, find a way to get into the Gotham Club behind the scoreboard.

Just avoid the 300s. It's cold up there even in August. That's the other thing - wear layers. It will be probably be cold unless it's a day game. Even then, you'll only be warm in the sun.

    Great story dude.

I cried when she hugged her husband. And watching her during the national anthem. Can’t believe she thought she was gonna drop out.

And damn.  ToY just barely barely missed a sub 3  hour marathon today.

You sure about that? I'm looking at his splits, and it looks like something happened around mile 19.

  7. Way to go Desi!!!

My stretch goal is qualifying for the 2020 Boston Marathon. I have a marathon in four weeks, then taking a brief summer break and then starting with a Rogue group in September to figure out how to take my running to the next level. I need to take a minute off my marathon pace to qualify. I'll be hitting up this group for tips this fall when I begin that more intense training.

  8. Still struggling with RISP. And we now have more of a patchwork starting rotation thanks to Cueto heading to the DL and Bum landing on the 60 day DL now. Luckily, Shark comes back next week, and hopefully, Cueto isn't that far behind.

By late April, it should be Blach - Cueto - Shark - Holland - Stratton/Suarez/Beede.

So this is pretty great - tonight’s Cards-Brewers game was the first game in MLB history that started with back-to-back homers and ended with back-to-back homers.

Random shit like that is why I love baseball.

Joe Panik had a couple of first evers to open the season as well. First time a player has scored the only run on a solo HR in two consecutive 1-0 games (at any point in the season). He's also the first player to score the team's first three runs of a season on solo HRs.

14 Championships.  Is there a coach in all of sports anywhere that has 14?  NBA? MLB? NCAA? etc?

Dressel is unbelievable.  Can't wait to see what he does on the international stage.

The 3 that came to mind for me all have less. Geno Auriemma (11 and counting), Wooden (10), and Auerbach (9).
