Re: Polanco
Meh, no thanks. Coming off an atrocious season where he batted a career-low .213 and posted a career-low .651 OPS while striking out 30% of the time and rarely getting on base. He was a ~4.5 WAR guy in '19 and '21 but has been declining at the plate for 3 straight seasons, and he's a mediocre defender to boot.
We're in a worse situation than we realize if we're seriously looking to replace Bregman with a flame-out like Polanco that is significantly inferior both offensively and defensively.

Spend the money on Alonso and then piecemeal 3B til Matthews is ready
Or Christian Walker. ~25 HR/80 RBI from 1B would be nice for a change.
We have to get solid production out of at least 1 corner infield spot.

Some angry death metal with a bit of groove out of a young band from Denmark. This is going in the gym rotation. Debut album out today.

Big "For Lease" sign propped up out in front of the old Petrol Station this week. Maybe this time they can lease it to a tenant that will actually move in and operate a bar/restaurant? It's been sitting empty for 4.5 years now.

Cold, rainy weekend ahead. Time for this thread to shine. Think I'm gonna make a batch of SF-style Clam Chowder for Sunday dinner. Maybe French Onion soup for lunch Saturday.

Finally won a minor argument with my wife resoundingly enough to where she had no choice but to admit defeat.
The other day my wife calls me on her way home from work saying she has to pick up a prescription from HEB and asks if I can think of anything we need. The one thing I mention is cold brew coffee, as I had finished the last of it that morning. She says ok.
Next morning, I get home from the gym and get ready to make a nice big omelet to for us to split while she's at her Pilates class. I go open the fridge and find a solitary egg left in the carton. She had made herself some eggs the day before.
Me (via text): "hey, next time you leave 1 just egg in the fridge, maybe grab some more if you're going to the store. So much for an omelet. Granola it is."
Her: "You knew I made eggs yesterday morning, why didn't you tell me we needed more? Also, you drank all the cold brew and I didn't have any before my class this morning."
Me: "I didn't know we needed eggs. You're the one who used all but the last one. In what scenario would I be more aware of the egg count than you? Also, cold brew was the one and only item I mentioned you should pick up."
Her:...."Oh shit, that's right. I'll pop into Whole Foods on the way home from class and get some eggs and cold brew."

Where is your lease? I have a place I can hunt (lady lets me use her land) in Tyler. Very convenient, not the best hunting, but they are there. Nice buck!
Tyler County, just south of Lake Rayburn. Closest "town" is a little shithole called Colmesneil.

Welp, putting in work at the lease in East TX over the past 2 years finally paid off on Friday morning.
First buck I've shot since I was in high school. Just started deer hunting again last year.
Kinda funny story. I shot him right under the feeder and he took off running. Went down there and all I saw was a tiny little splatter of blood under the feeder. I trudged off in the direction of where I assumed he had run and couldn't pick up any trail whatsoever other than a few tufts of hair. No blood trail at all. After about 20 minutes of looking around, I got convinced that I had whiffed a rather easy shot and just grazed him. Bout that time my Dad pulled up to help me search. Within about a minute of getting out of his truck, he pointed out a shape underneath a bush 90 degrees to the right of where I was walking. Deer had collapsed not more than 40 yards from the feeder. I guess I had tunnel vision of where I thought he had run and just never even glanced in that direction. Rather than a graze, it was pretty much a textbook shot right behind the shoulder. Surprised he was able to go any distance at all seeing the damage it did to his heart when we were cleaning him.
Had my Dad drop off the head with a guy in his neighborhood to prep the skull for a Euro mount. Just gonna put it on a basic skull hanger in the cabin at the lease.

Makes me want to drive out there and bang some men’s daughters.
Or their mothers if they look like Ali.
Boy, if Midland/Odessa is known for one thing, it's definitely an abundance of dateable women.

Absolutely gorgeous today. Enjoy these next ~72 hours of Fall while they last. Bona fide light jacket weather the next 2 mornings.
Back to unseasonably warm on Sunday and Monday.

Yeah a cold front would be much appreciated.I'm planning to duck out of the office after lunch on Thursday and head up to my lease. Cool front this week looks to be at its strongest from Wed-Friday. Should be able to get in Thursday evening, 2 Friday hunts, and Saturday morning before it warms back up.

Sorry, best I can do is 85 to start off Thanksgiving week
Yeah, pretty bummed to see the latest GFS runs have this upcoming front only lasting a few days before petering out on Saturday. At least we still should get a nice stretch of cool, dry weather from Tuesday morning through Friday night.

Feels like early June today. At least we're getting a healthy dose of rain, but it's fucking 80 degrees with 90% humidity, producing a Feels Like of 87. On November 17th.

Yep. Several of the accounts I followed for worthwhile political takes and business/market news all either went protected or migrated over to BlueSky in the last 10 days. My feed sucks donkey dick now.
I'll still check in on Twitter every now and then for sports news, but my days as an avid reader are done and gone.

This probably won't come as a surprise, but the 45-day stretch from 10/1 to yesterday was by far the warmest start to Fall in the last 135 years or so for which reliable records exist. Blastfurnace 2024 Edition reigns supreme.
