This offense is fucking hard to watch. I know it’s early, and I’m not one to freak out over small sample sizes, but it looks fairly bleak. Sigh.
Some fun stats:
33 TB and 4 XBH are dead last in MLB.
9 total runs and 8 RBI tied for dead last.
.175 AVG and .496 OPS are 29/30, trailing only ATL's abysmal .144 and .474.

Looks like most of the state should get some more showers Friday/Saturday ahead of a late-season cold front pushing through over the weekend. Seeing highs in the 60's, lows in the 40's Sunday and Monday.

Hader wins on Ball 4.
Gotdam dude. Pitch like you are paid to pitch. Stop being a fucking pussy!!!
Dude just couldn't put away those first 3 batters. Got to 2 strikes in all 3 counts and then they just kept fouling shit off.
Not a good performance of course, but buckling down to get the next 3 guys to K/Sac Fly/K is pretty close to ideal when you're looking at bases juiced, no outs. and tenuous 3-0 lead.

After Game 1/162, Astros solidly in first place, Rangers languishing in the cellar with the Angels.

No offense to Hader, but I don't mind at all if he doesn't get a save opportunity today. Gimme 1 or 2 insurance runs.

I was about to really sweat that Nimmo AB but luckily a buddy at the game spoiled it for me. Seems like TV feed is about 40 seconds behind.

Not complaining about getting guys on base, but we need to land a knockout punch. Ready for an XBH after all these walks and singles.

I'm glad Jake is relatively fast and that ball was hit relatively soft.

city market ribs and sausage are still just about my favorite around.
Yep, while their brisket is totally skippable and sometimes downright bad, CM ribs with their red glaze are still a treat.
Always grab a few bottles of sauce to go for friends/co-workers.

Let's get back to winning on Opening Day. It sucked dropping Game 1 for the first time in like a decade last year, especially given that it led to a 4-game sweep.

Supply has been increasing the past 2 weeks or so, which means prices are finally starting to come down to earth and vendors are taking a little later in the day to sell out. Starting to see field run at sub-$3 though weekend prices remain elevated. Couple more weeks of moderate weather and things should be looking much better by mid-April.

Wife and I taking our annual spring trip to check out the old stomping grounds in San Marcos and spending the weekend in Wimberley, which means lunch tomorrow on the way up will be my once-a-year visit to City Market. Yes, there are plenty of better BBQ joints, but I still enjoy CM for what it is and it's tradition at this point.

Love the rain in Houston. Gave me an excuse to skip a vendor event at the Houston Open today.
A nice steady 30+ hour soaking is just what the doctor ordered. My landscaping is just starting to come back to life after the winter die off and lawn is finally waking up from hibernation. Sprinklers get to catch a nice break this weekend.

Energy executives have mostly heaped praise on President Donald Trump in public appearances, welcoming his removal of environmental restrictions on oil drilling and vows to open up more areas to exploration.
But in private, executives are clearly frustrated with the administration’s policies, and some are pulling back investment. Several executives expressed their feelings in blunt terms in a quarterly survey put out by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
"The administration’s chaos is a disaster for the commodity markets,” one wrote. “‘Drill, baby, drill’ is nothing short of a myth and populist rallying cry. Tariff policy is impossible for us to predict and doesn’t have a clear goal. We want more stability.”
The Fed survey responses, which are anonymous, were collected from 130 executives in oil and gas production and services who work in the Fed district, which includes Texas and sections of New Mexico and Louisiana.
“I have never felt more uncertainty about our business in my entire 40-plus-year career,” wrote another executive.
For the most part, the executives expressed concern about tariffs. Trump’s 25% tariffs on steel are causing costs to jump for oil producers who use a lot of it.

Walker heading back to Houston tonight after taking a bunch of AB's in minor league games the last few days without issue. Expected to be in the lineup Thursday.

Smith starting in RF again tonight.
Edit: And now Chandler says he made the OD roster.

Chandler: Astros have informed Singleton he will not make the Opening Day Roster, Joe Espada said.
I'm assuming that means Dezenzo is in. Last domino left to fall is likely Chas vs. Cam.

I'm experiencing tennis elbow, so it's my in my forearm and top of the elbow. The main two exercises that I'm limited in are bent over rows and hammer curls. Even when I'm working and reach up to put on/take off my headset or the motion of bringing my cup to my face to take a drink triggers it.
I've continued to do those workouts, but I'm having to lower the weight to accomplish a clean rep without pain. I'm scheduled to see an orthopedist next week just because it hasn't improved much with extended days between workouts and lighter reps over the course of the last few weeks.
I was experiencing something similar last year. Recurring discomfort on the inside of my left elbow. Not so much pain, but when I'd do curls, the first few reps it would feel like my UCL was about to fail. I just laid off for like 2 weeks at one point and then picked back up with more reps at lower weight. Also seemed to help to switch to doing standing curls with a multi-grip bar rather than sitting down at a curl machine.
The discomfort eventually subsided entirely even after I'd gotten back up to lifting as heavy ever, though my left elbow still does a (painless) pop when I stretch out my arms upon waking up in the morning.

Didn't do a boil last year. Want to do one this year. May not have a weekend to do so until May 3-4. That's usually a good week or two after we usually do so, but I expect we should still be in the money. Thoughts?
Should be fine on crawfish, but weather will be a crapshoot. Buddy of mine used to do a boil first Saturday of May. Some years it's 80 and perfect, some years it's the first weekend with heat index touching triple digits. Moved it to mid-April the last few years.

Per beat writers: Walker is not going to travel home with the team on Sunday, but will stay in Florida taking AB's in minor-league games Saturday through Tuesday before returning to Houston. Should be available on Opening Day.

Combining two recent McTaggart Tweets:
Dezenzo is 3/4 today. He has probably played his way onto this team with a .415 batting average and 1.125 OPS.

Glad I got distracted and held off. Veilguard is free on PS Plus starting tomorrow.
I guess I just don't see why this game tanked so bad. I've been having a grand old time. There's a ton of content as it appears I'm only about halfway through after playing for ~20 hours.
Winter Weather 2025 - Arctic Blasts or Sweaty Ass?

Bout ready for this upcoming front to arrive. Weather has been quite blah this week and is just straight nasty today. Currently 87 and muggy as hell with a feels like of 94. Ain't ready for this shit yet.
And wow, just saw that temps on Saturday night/Sunday morning are expected to drop even lower than last time I looked earlier in the week. Then the next 5-6 days after that are just about perfect April weather.
