I did this exact same thing on Sunday with a couple of friends. $30 got me 6 lbs of the large EZ peel. Basic boil with a some potatoes, corn and andouille. It would have been a perfect day for a crawfish boil, but shrimp will have to do for now.

  2. Felt like middle of May when I left for work this morning. Low 80's and muggy AF.

I certainly enjoyed the glorious Spring-like weather we had last week and this past weekend, but it's way too early in the year for days like today.

  3. Man, I just don't know how some people do it.

There's a retired couple in their late 60's or so that works out at my gym in the mornings. Always together. They go hop on the treadmills side-by-side and the wife literally just talks into her husband's ear, non-stop stream of consciousness without pause the entire time. He never says a word beyond "yep" or "uh huh" every now and then. Just stares blankly ahead. I presume at this point he just hears a high-pitched tone or something. After the treadmills, they go use various weight machines, and the wife always is on whatever machine is next to her husband, yakking in his general direction. I'd have to give up exercising entirely if every trip to the gym meant that my wife was gonna tag along and try to talk me to death the entire time.

This man appears to have the patience of a saint, but I just know that deep down, buried somewhere in his gut, there's a "goddamnit woman, do you ever shut the hell up??!???!" just waiting to escape.

  4. First 2 episodes air tomorrow night. 10 total episodes releasing weekly on Tuesdays through the final week of April.

I'll probably wait until April to dive in. Doesn't seem like the kind of show I will want to take a week off between each episode.

Dad informed us earlier this week that he finished the stand. Brother and I heading out to the lease tomorrow afternoon to set up a new feeder to replace one of the busted ones. Dad is meeting us out there with the new stand at sunup on Sunday. Just gotta unload it and attach the roof.

I'm enjoying my Dad's new hobby of building deer stands for me and my brother's deer lease from scrap lumber he salvages from construction sites in his neighborhood (with the builder's permission). Just told us on Saturday that he has been gathering scraps to start building us a 2nd stand later this Spring.

Haven't been back out to the lease since New Years, so need to figure out a random weekend in March to head out to go do some work on the camp house and scout locations for this new stand.

Guitarist from Power Trip (RIP) is putting out some more old school thrash metal with his new band.

The surviving members of Power Trip just announced they're getting back together, and the singer from Fugitive will be their new frontman. Power Trip is back, baby!

Here's some fun footage from a surprise reunion they did at a Fugitive show in Austin back in December.

I knew Teare growing up back in Beaumont. He was classmates with my older brother before he moved to Houston for high school. Crazy to think that a guy who used to spent the night at my childhood home will likely be the DA of the biggest city in Texas.

NVDA earnings tomorrow.  S&P500 will rise or fall on the news.

    Blowout.

Nvidia Corp. crushed expectations with its latest results and outlook Wednesday, helping to send its shares soaring as management talked up a bright future fueled in part by artificial-intelligence demand.

The chip giant has benefited from frenzied spending on AI hardware, and that was on display again Wednesday as the company reported fiscal fourth-quarter results. Revenue came in at $22.1 billion, up from $6.05 billion a year before, while analysts had been modeling $20.4 billion.

265% increase in revenue YOY. Stock up 8% after hours to nearly $730.

One of the mildest Texas winters I can remember.  Not complaining, considering the grid can't handle demand.

Yeah, aside from about 60 hours during the January freeze, I'm struggling to remember many genuinely "cold" days that required much more than a light jacket or pullover here in Houston.

  10. Lol. Old buddy of mine makes a living as a real estate agent for people buying and selling ranches. Posted this pic today from a property he was visiting with a buyer.

Easily the most dangerous hunting stand I've ever seen. Said it's about 40 feet of ladder to climb with those tiny little pegs. Enter through the floor, and then there's just a swivel seat up there.

Just noticed that on the extended forecast. Cold and dreary Friday and Saturday, then cool and sunny for a few days, but after that, it looks like Winter all but vanishes. Supposed to hit 80 next Wednesday and Thursday. And then finish out the month with a bunch of mostly dry days in the mid 70's.

I don't necessarily mind Spring starting a little early, but Summer better mind its fucking business and stay in its lane until Memorial Day.

I don't think we're cutting rates at all.  I think we'll hold here for the entirety of '24, and maybe halfway into '25.

I think this is a bit of a stretch based on a hot January CPI report. CPI spiked last January too. Several wonks pointed out that a lot of the overshoot came from an unexpected blip in OER, which doesn't seem to match up with other data concerning rents.

Now, if February and March numbers don't get back on track, "no rate cuts in 2024" might be more reasonable, but let's take a breather for a second.
