Texans bitching about heat.
C'mon man.
Heat records are going to get obliterated all over the state this week. The average high in Austin on 5/14 is 86. The record is 97. Current forecast is 105.
It's not even fucking Summer yet.

I’ve been at the same place for a little over 17 years. We moved in December, my drive became 66 miles that was always 1:20 minimum but plenty of 2 hours each way days. I really thought I could tough it out but it wore me down.
I honestly don't know how my co-workers living way far out in the burbs do it. I could see if you have a truly hybrid role where you can work remotely most days and only come in 1-2 days a week, but I know guys that are in the office M-F that live 45+ miles out. A good 8-10 hours per week spent commuting. That's an entire extra day of work, every week, just to get to and from work.

Damnit. Not what I wanted to see on the camera.
Damn hogs have rutted everything up so bad that the sand under one of the legs eventually washed away after some rains.
Fortunately, it doesn't appear to have landed on the solar panel, so should hopefully just be able to pick it up and dust if off with minimal damage. That said, wanna get back out there soon as I don't want it laying on its side for too long.
Schedule working out to where it looks like I'll be able to run up on Sunday morning and create 3-day weekend for myself. Appears likely this will be the last weekend until October where it went get much hotter than 80 and the overnight low will dip into the 50's. Gonna resituate and fill that feeder and start running it again so we'll have a hog-hunting spot this offseason. Also knock out a few other small projects that I'd prefer not to do when the heat index is touching triple digits.

Enjoy this final upcoming weekend of Spring. 90+ degree temps look to be a daily occurrence starting Tuesday.

Looks like some nice, drier air should roll though after Friday's storms and make for a pleasant Spring weekend. Got a crawfish boil to attend on Sunday and I'm seeing a high of 82 with <50% humidity. That's pretty ideal. Gotta enjoy these final few weeks of highs in the 80's before 100+ straight days of blastfurnace kick in.
60 degrees and a nice light breeze at sunup on Sunday. Can't wait!

Would it be worth installing some kind of foundation to prevent it from happening again? Not talking about a slab, but maybe sink some pressure treated or creosote piers in some post holes and some means of anchoring the feeder supports to them.
I already had a bunch of candy cane shaped pieces of inch-thick rebar through the holes in the feet, which worked fine the last few years, but the ground just finally gave way under the leg on the lowest side. I could see on the camera it's been leaning a bit for a few weeks, so I'm assuming a strong wind hit or a big fat pig ran into it and finally tipped it. Been completely empty since early February, so doesn't have hardly any weight to it. Think I'm gonna move it over a couple yards to a now flat area and stick some 2" concrete pavers under the feet.

I've been fortunate enough that I generally don't mind my job and rarely have legitimately "bad" days. That said, there's a brief moment of stress when I get to my desk and open my work email in the morning. Not a fan of having my work day immediately start with something that necessitates a substantive response. Definite sense of relief when the inbox is just industry newsletter bs or generic firm-wide messages. After a little while, sure, bring it on, but let me settle in for a bit first.

Somehow his desperate attempts to be seen as "funny guy" despite having one of the least-developed senses of humor in human history almost offend me more than anything else he does. A classroom of 6-year old boys would call him a try-hard. Pretty good odds that at some point hell end up asking someone in a cabinet meeting if they want a Hurtz Donut.

Ugh, Day 1 for me of trying to finally get serious about shedding some flab off the mid-section with Summer approaching. It's been a little over 2 years since I got serious about working out again and feel like I've really hit my stride in 2025. Knock on wood, but so far this year, I've mostly been able to avoid getting sick/hurt enough to miss more than a day or two and been reliably hitting the gym 5-6 times a week. Very happy with where I am muscle-wise, but my core still looks like a 41 year old that likes good food and beer. Really want to drop 7-8 lbs by Memorial Day.
No "didn't have time to make a healthy lunch today, just gonna grab something." No "got up a little later than planned, so only 20 minutes of cardio today instead of 30+"....etc.

Good to end the weekend avoiding the sweep with a W.

Elon Musk's public image is becoming increasingly toxic, per the latest NYT/Sienna polling out yesterday.
He's at -21 (56% unfavorable/35% favorable) and almost as many people have a "very unfavorable" view (44%) than favorable/somewhat favorable/somewhat unfavorable combined (48%). Also, looking at the gender gap, he might be one of the most reviled men in the country among women (-34), which is unsurprising, given that he has seemingly approached most of them with breeding propositions.
All in all, a genuinely impressive feat of self-destruction. As someone said in a Twitter post I saw earlier, "who voluntarily signs up to become the face of canceling Meals on Wheels and cancer research?"

13-11 through 24 games is exactly on pace with Astros '21 through '23 seasons which is a weird coincidence.
Beats the shit out of 7-17 last year.
ALCS return confirmed.

WTI with a nice little $2 bump today. Creeping up close to $65, which would be a 2-week high. Bit of a relief rally after dropping to $56 at one point last Wednesday morning.
I know several folks whose companies were in the middle of trying to divest an asset package or brokers trying to close out mineral deals and they have not been sleeping all that comfortably lately.

Looks like I'm heading up to the lease tomorrow with my brother and my niece. First trip in a few months. Gonna go set up a new camera at one feeder, do some mowing around the camphouse...etc. but mostly just enjoy a day away from the city.
I turned off all the feeders last time I was there in February, but still occasionally seeing hogs randomly passing by the cameras. I think next time out I'm gonna fill up 1 specific feeder that sits near a hog trail and make that our Summer hog hunting spot. We'll fill up the rest and start feeding around Labor Day as usual.

WTI catching a breather after the UK and China "deals." Up $6 from last Monday's low. I don't see much chance of a prolonged rally anytime soon, but hopeful that the near-term price floor has moved up closer to $60 than $50.
