Fair points. But look at Bill Brewer up there in the dark pin or chalk stripe.  He's gonna rub some folks the wrong way despite not doing anything outrageous.

Also, within some ego-driven businesses, someone who does know what's up may decide he doesn't like your taste or the fact that he's not the best-dressed guy in the room.  Not all people are big enough to think "well done," issue a compliment, and move on.

There's a fine line to walk with a jury between looking appropriately prosperous and competent, and looking flashy and untrustworthy or just like you're larding it on.

The point is to be conscious of your audience.

You have to be aware of your audience, but true to yourself.  If you're a trial attorney who wants to have the jury's attention and it fits your personality, then there is not an issue with color/suits/patterns that would be considered heresy by the 5280s/G650s of the world.  A former colleague used to wear a light gray pinstripe double-breasted linen suit regularly in trial when we were in federal court.   From there it just got even more interesting.

It fit his personality.  He could get away with it.  Juries loved him regardless of the crazy suits he wore.  Judges weren't offended by it because he had the skins already hanging on the wall.

My courtroom style is not as showy, and is reflected in my suits.  Wear what you normally wear and you should be fine in front of the jury.  Although I do limit myself to only two suits/two ties, rotated throughout trial regardless of length.

  2. You want depressing? How about this for ya...

Went to a regular honey hole today that I hadn’t visited in months, only to see all this behind the counter and nearly lose my shit:

Being of sound mind despite my excitement, I asked the lady behind the counter for a few price checks:

    Weller Special Reserve: $300
    GTS: $600
    Sazerac: $800
    WLW: $1500
    Old Fitz: $400

I laughed and walked to the back, found a bottle of 1910 for $49 and took that out the door.

Such a shame to see so many bottles I’ve been searching for in a single location only to be confronted with aftermarket prices. Fuck the prospectors!

Why give them any business at all? Places who want to mark up like that can fuck off, and I won’t spend any money with them.
