  1. i've literally never heard anyone say that Da Bomb "tastes great" until today.

It tastes horrible. It’s just pure heat during a Hot Ones progression. Admittedly I had Bomb Evolution, but there was nothing redeeming about it.

  2. What a weird thread. It reads like one of those horrible Swam threads where he used some shitty movie as a plot device for some far fetched bullshit thread thinking he was creative.

You keep alluding to some back story. Just fucking tell the whole thing so we can all either ridicule you or tell you to fuck off like we would Swam.

I wonder how insurance works in this situation. Gonna be some lawyers involved

The vessel is registered with the UK P&I Club.  Wikipedia has a good basic explanation:

    Quote

Protection and indemnity insurance, more commonly known as P&I insurance, is a form of mutual maritime insurance provided by a P&I club.[1] Whereas a marine insurance company provides "hull and machinery" cover for shipowners, and cargo cover for cargo owners, a P&I club provides cover for open-ended risks that traditional insurers are reluctant to insure. Typical P&I cover includes: a carrier's third-party risks for damage caused to cargo during carriage;[2] war risks;[3] and risks of environmental damage such as oil spills and pollution. In the UK, both traditional underwriters and P&I clubs are subject to the Marine Insurance Act 1906.

A P&I club is a mutual insurance association that provides risk pooling, information and representation for its members. Unlike a marine insurance company, which reports to its shareholders, a P&I club reports only to its members. Originally, P&I club members were typically shipowners, ship operators or demise charterers, but more recently freight forwarders and warehouse operators have been able to join.

Whereas the assured pays a premium to an underwriter for cover which lasts for a particular time (say, a year, or a voyage), a P&I club member instead pays a "call". This is a sum of money that is put into the club's pool, a kind of "kitty". If, at the end of the year, there are still funds in the pool, each member will pay a reduced call the following year; but if the club has made a major payout (say, after an oil spillage) club members will immediately have to pay a further call to replenish the pool.

As to the second question, there will be a whole bunch of litigation out of this.  At the point that there's $400 million in losses per hour, someone is going to go after the vessel interests at some point (owner, operator, manager, etc.).

  4. Dang I had no idea it was $65k.  Yeah no way.  Same ... even if I could afford it.  But my budget is 20-25% of that and that’s stretching it on the high end. I’m justifying it with the idea one of my sons will want it when I die - I have law books, I’ll have the watch, next I’ll just need a Randall knife to complete the trifecta.

My father died when I was forty and I couldn't find a way to cry
Not because I didn't love him, not because he didn't try
Well, I'd cried for every lesser thing: whiskey, pain, and beauty
But he deserved a better tear and I was not quite ready
So we took his ashes out to sea and poured 'em off the stern
And then threw the roses in the wake of everything we'd learned
And when we got back to the house they asked me what I wanted
Not the law books, not the watch–I need the thing he's haunted
My hand burned for the Randall knife there in the bottom drawer
And I found a tear for my father's life and all that it stood for

  5. I have eaten and pissed at Hruska's in Ellinger 1,453 times or so.  Very decent cheeseburgers, btw, on top of quality kolaches.
However, I have never tried Peter's BBQ just 2 businesses down.  Anyone tried it?

I had the worst chopped beef sandwich I’ve ever eaten there ~12 years ago.

  6. Where should I eat Monday night? Staying at the ponchartrain. I've eaten at most of the usual suspects. Monday+covid makes it a bit of a thing.

Check out the liquor store next door. A bunch of way overpriced stuff, but was stocked with Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace single barrel picks when I stayed there twice in the fall.
  7. that makes me cry. i just went off on a rant in the other thread about Texas about how i don't make a shit in Texas b/c i'm not represented by anybody that listens to my voice on anything in this damn state...and this dude is clearly doing his part to represent his people. i mean...gotdammit.

Gene Wu is great. Does a great job for his constituents/all Texans.
