But you have to think of what’s best for the sport.

A last minute drive resulting in a TD with a missed xp would have resulted in all the Aggie venom being directed at the kicker while Reed is canonized

Reed could name his price, Aggie severely overpays along with overpaying for a kicker, thus reducing their portal budget significantly.  They are a top 5 spender but they need to remain 8&4 and firmly in the bottom half of the top 25, not stealing playoff berths.   It’s what’s best for CFB.

My objective is simple: aggy misery

Not to do a stolen valor thing, but I really think it was the Texas game that broke them, and I mean long term broke them. They've always bragged on how loud their stadium is, and let's face it, as Texas fans we can a little lackadaisical at times. Even when I was a student, when Royal was coaching, I have NEVER seen the Horns have a game atmosphere like that one. Those fuckers got gob smacked and walked out with their tails between their legs. Inevitability GONE! Invincibility GONE! You could sense it in their smack talk after the game. It just didn't have the usual aggy delusion.

Well, aside from the folks - including some of their players - talking about how they were about to go on a NC playoff run.

Word is that he came back and tried to renegotiate again after two previous negotiations, plus signing day shenanigans when he put a gun to our head and renegotiated then. Quality player, but not worth top tier money.

    If true, fuck him.

Been looking through the actual news around the commissioner meetings. and leading proposals seem to be:

16: 5 + 11 - The most likely next format that no one likes but everyone will agree to not sue over.

    16: 4-4-2-2 + 4 - P2 get 4 autos, M2 get 2 autos, 4 at-large - The SEC/B1G proposal, but B12 and ACC aren't ready to grant disproportional autos.

16: 4-4-4-4 - P4 get 4 autos. - The follow up from 4-4-2-2, the B12 is reluctant to cut out the G5 in the fear that it is next on the chopping block.

    24: 4-4-4-4 + 8 - ACC wants a giant playoff

    ---

Expansion seems like ass at this point, but it's where decision-makers are heading.  The B12 and ACC are probably right to not accept reality as the middle tier.  I kind of don't like it either as the quality of conferences and teams changes over time, but the 4-4-2-2 format actually make the most sense at this singular moment in time.  16x 4-4-4-4 will put a lot of teams in that don't deserve to be while also blocking teams that do deserve to be.  24 just seems dumb.

If we are in a world where these are the only four options - and I hope we are not - then they are listed in the order of preference and it's a logarithmic progression of shittiness.

So until this fantasy comes about I don't see why it is this enormous outrage that a midmajor plays in the playoffs. It happens in literally every other fucking sport. Every once in a while one will win a game or two and it will be cool. But it won't happen often.

Football is not comparable to basketball or any other sport. Teams only play 12 regular season games.

I don't want Cinderella in college football, unless Cinderella shows in the regular season by running the table and beating one or two notable opponents. I absolutely do not want us crowning, as national champion, a team that meandered its way through the regular season and then got hot at the end.

No '83 NC States in college football, please.

If a G5 team is good enough to earn a top 12 (or whatever the number is in a given year) ranking at the end of the season, then fine - give them a shot. Otherwise the lower tier leagues can fuck right off.

This may be the second worst take ever posted on this site behind the time someone said Salma Hayek’s tits were too big.

Pretty much all of this will happen except because they will be breaking in a new OL Reed is going to be running a lot early on.  I would set the O/U at 3.5 games..  Guessing LSU is the one who breaks him in half when they game plan for him scrambling 40+ times.

they will pay him without remorse all the while whining to anyone who will listen that 2026 was their year, Reed would have won the heisman and they would have won it all if he just hadn’t gotten hurt.

Next year is ALWAYS their year.

    Always.

    Hadn’t read this thread in a week…

”oh yeah, I’ll click on that thread to see if there are any pertinent updates I missed with the team” … clicks thread …

-hagbard celine’s descent into some form of madness continues to unfold on a post by post, thread by thread basis

-more whining about the bowl game not mattering

-apparently Michael Taffe needs to fuck off for considering his options for his best future outcomes

    -more terribly unfunny AI garbage

-the Burlsworth Award committee all needs to climb in a car and have the driver fall asleep at the wheel on a two lane, rural highway

    -some relevant team updates

    Thanks, guys!

    Solid summary

Only the bama ou game was worth watching.

Shit ass committee and shitass rules made the first round unwatchable this year.

    Pathetic.

The line was 16.5 in this ole piss game and that wasn’t enough lol

I disagree. I was thoroughly entertained by the Miami-aggy game.

I don't know why some people are surprised by this? A&M was 1 last second play away against Notre Dame from going 0-3 against ranked teams this year. This is the most predictable result ever. If you had watched them all year you knew they were a paper tiger stacking wins against bad teams.

Who, aside from aggy, is surprised?

    Manziel ditched College Gameday https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6906634/2025/12/20/johnny-manziel-college-gameday-texas-am/

Earlier this week, ESPN announced Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel would be guest picker for the show, which broadcast from Kyle Field before the first-round game in the College Football Playoff. ESPN even published a video of Manziel promoting his appearance.

But when the show kicked off, it was current NBA player and former Aggie Alex Caruso who took the stage, choosing Texas A&M, as expected.

ESPN declined to comment on why he took the stage instead of Manziel.

Manziel, who was seen Friday night at the Jake Paul-Anthony Joshua fight in Miami, has not made a public comment about missing the show. He hasn’t posted anything to show he is in College Station for the playoff game, either.
