    Did De'Aron Fox die?

We would have won more than 34 games last season if Wemby didn't get shut down. And then we shut Fox down.

Castle will be better and may even take a leap. Sochan will be better. You would think Wemby will continue to get better. I don't know what we get from Harper but he will be on the team. We shouldn't really need anything from DV and Keldon that they didn't give us last season. If our season is going to hinge on either of those guy's "development" then just shoot me in the head now.

It's time to win games and make the playoffs. I get the West is deep but if we can't be better than all of these teams with 65+ games of Fox and Wemby then, yes, this season will be a failure.

    Screenshot_20250622_135918_Chrome.thumb.jpg.b017f19759be4f8faf128aba3f574517.jpg

And that's assuming the other 7 teams all make the playoffs and I wouldn't exactly throw a ton of money on teams like the Clippers and Warriors to stay out of the play-in.

So, with health, I think we make the playoffs as well, but it's greatly up to Wemby at this point.  Fox is solid player but what Fox are you getting?  He's a high USG%, shoot first PG, who's a defensive liability because of his size.  He's a pretty good player, but not a great player, and what the team really needs is a facilitator - CP3 from 6 years ago.  Scoring 25 on 18-19-20 shots isn't really a great stat for a small PG, who's a lousy 3 point shooter.  Now, I do think he has in him being more of an on court leader.  A guy who scores 18-19 points on 14-15 shots and decreases his USG% under 25 and increases his AST% above 30 while hopefully shooting 34-35% from 3.  You get that guy, we're probably easily making the playoffs but he's never done it before because Sac-town needed his scoring.  We don't need that if the others show up and with the rookie who's calling card is scoring at this point.  We need Fox to be a better facilitator and decent shooter who can break down a defense and dictate pace.  I do respect him because he's a guy who wanted to come here.

As far as the others, Castle is who I have my eye on.  A lot of good stuff by the eye test, but he's got to become a better shooter and more efficient offensive player, but as a rookie, nothing but love for his first year.  I hope he can make a huge step forward and it begins with shooting.  Hopefully the others can take a step forward, but again, my point is, they've really only take baby steps forward.  So we do really need to make an impact with some smart moves in FA.  Getting to the 8 seed is 14 games.  That's a bunch. I don't give a fuck about the play-in games.  That's not about being a good team, it's about TV ratings.

These guys are so young, it's hard to really critique guys learning the pro game, but it's how we've built this team.  We need them to take all of these minutes and experience they've gotten and turn it into more sustainable production.  And again, we're not asking for them to be ship contenders, just make the playoffs.

If we can't make the playoffs as currently constructed barring major injury issues that's a huge fucking failure.

Well, we haven't won more than 34 games in the last 5 years.  We're basically saying Wemby has to continue to develop and play 75 games next season and then HOPE the others can continue to develop and add to their game.  Maybe the Sochan shooting tech change is for real, but I don't want that guy shooting more than 10 shots a game anyway.  Maybe Castle is developing.  I can't depend on a rookie guard, as talented as he is, doing much except playing rotation level ball for the majority of the season.  At some point, talent has to translate to production.  This has only happened with Wemby.  Vassell, Sochan, and Castle, to a smaller degree, have to get better and not baby steps anymore, that's what Vassell and Sochan have been doing.  They're marginally better than they were when they joined the league.  Let's take Vassell as an example:

What does he do better appreciably than say his 2nd year?  I'd say he's a little better passer and playmaker, which is something better but nothing else.  He hasn't turned into the on the ball defender we need him to be and he really needs to deliver a 3pt% at close to 40% to really help us as that 3 and D guy we need.  He's talented.  He can dominate a game once and awhile and I realize he was hurt last year, but the time is now for him or he may just end up kicking around the league for a decade as a bench guy who never filled his potential.  Remember, we took him over Halliburton.

Sochan is much of the same..... I'd say we need that forward off the bench who can really shoot and he needs length.  We need a big man with some nasty to him and it'd be nice if he had some post game and then probably a scorer off the bench who can get his own shot.

BTW, getting only marginally better is Keldon Johnson too, but he wasn't a lottery pick.  But he was better than thought off the cuff, but then has stagnated.

  3. Who can the Spurs get for those exceptions is probably the difference between playoffs and not.  Going to need some veteran help.  Still have picks and KJ, Barnes, Vassell and Sochan if the right deal comes around but I don't want to see or hear anything about Jaylon Brown.  Fuck that.

Gagree. I didn’t want KD on this team unless it was a steal. Seems Rockets gave up quite a bit to get him.

Not really.... 10 and Green, who's upside will have a ceiling unless he greatly improves his shooting, although only 22, so has a long development curve.

  5. Welp, looks like KD is going to Houston.  Basically, the difference was the 10 vs the 14th pick.  Got close but ultimately, we decided to keep our powder dry.  They're farther along then we are so it also aligns with timelines better for them.  Still hurts.

After checking out the physical stats behind the teams that made it deep this year, I'm fully on board with drafting Harper.

The lanky, long, floor dominating wing player doesn't really seem to exist often in today's league.

    Such as?

    Indy: Siakam

    OKC:  Williams

    Knicks:  OG

    Minny:  McDaniels

I mean there's way more examples of wing players, what do you mean?  And I'm on board with Harper too especially since he's grown 1.5 inches and has long arms.

Not sure what Clark did to get a tech here (Suns players got 3 but the one that cheap-shotted Clark to the ground got to stay in the game).

Game flow.  The refs, who were horrible, had already given Clark a break when she very easily could have gotten a tech in the first half (see below):

This rivalry (I use the term loosely because it's so one sided) between Jacy Sheldon and Clark goes back to Big Ten basketball and Sheldon has guarded Clark for years.  She's very physical with her and guards her 94 feet for the most part.  Clark's team tend to dominate but she makes it very difficult for Clark and the game was chippy.  The refs did a very poor job in controlling the game and Mabrey probably deserved to get tossed by knocking her down, but again, they had granted Clark a small indiscretion so that's why they just T'd up a bunch of Sun players.

Gotta love the hottest girl on the team taking Clark's back and hard fouling Sheldon on a transition basket..... Indy need some of that protective mindset.

A perennially unhappy 37-year-old (who hasn’t won a playoff game since I was apparently eight or nine years old myself) is exactly what this team needs!

Let’s ship a valuable asset or two to rent him for a year, stunt Wemby’s growth, and end up exactly where we’d be without him… losing in the first round.

That would make you 11 years old..... this tracks....

I don’t want to lose Sochan. Not even for Durant. I have fallen for the off-season shooting videos.

Here's the thing..... Sochan will never be anywhere as good as KD, even a 37 year old KD.  His upside is really good glue and energy guy with some defensive stopper side to him.  Like a bankrupt Draymond Green.  The advantage to keeping him is if his mindset is right (and thus far it hasn't been) is he won't need many shots or USG and his price.  But right now, Jeremy Sochan isn't a very good player.  He's a good talent and we all hope he takes the next step forward but he doesn't do anything well.  He doesn't rebound enough or play on the ball defense enough to reach to good levels.  He shot better this year but he's still a dismal 3 point shooter.  Doesn't block shots or control the paint.  Doesn't create extra possessions by causing turnovers or stealing the ball.  Basically, he's just potential and it feels like the Spurs haven't really known what to do with him.  I think it's easy..... Rodman with a 3 point shot should be the goal.  He'll never be that good on the defensive end or on the boards, but that should be the goal and he's not really in the same state yet, so let's not mention neighborhood.

So, while I get it, let's try not to suffer too much from foundation bias.  It happens to me too, so again, I totally understand but there is a real possibility that 6 or 7 years of Sochan never delivers as much VORP or WS as 3 years of KD at this age.  But it's the money, man..... it's the money.  KD takes up so much room that your either can't give up as much as Phoenix apparently wants or his extension would have to be a self-aware hometown discount.  Something around 2 for 70m or something.  You basically give KD 65 games during the reg season and pray he's healthy and has his legs for a deep playoff run.

Again, all of that said, I think we get outbid by quite a bit.

  10. 22 hours ago, ztejas said:

Apparently Phoenix was wanting either Castle or the #2 for KD. In case anyone was wondering whether that front office was still delusional or not.

Frankly, while they have leverage, this isn't a crazy ask.  Multiple suitors on the board, KD doesn't seem to want to leverage them right now, so while they know we'll probably say no, we know they'll get a better offer than Vassell and stuff.  If KD is interested in winning another ship, he absolutely should be telling Phoenix and other teams where he wants to go and that he won't sign an extension with certain teams.  This would reduce the package needed to trade for him and leave the acquiring team with a better roster.  He's only hurting his chances by staying out of it....

  11. 7 minutes ago, Michael Knight said:

He averaged 26 pts a game on 52% shooting, he would solve our wing problems

Reportedly the Spurs were his top choice, we almost traded for him at the deadline

I get it.... but he would have to push for SA.  Tell Phoenix and all other teams that's where he wants to be and won't entertain an extension, even if traded there, until he becomes a UFA.  It seems we're not willing to put either Vassell or Sochan or both in the deal and Phoenix also wants a center, which we don't have.

He's still very good, but he won't be as good next year and the dropoff will be pretty fast. Not worth the price of admission.

He'd still be the 2nd best player on the team next year.  Probably the best in the playoffs......

  12. 3 hours ago, chainsaw said:

I would guess they're offering more and that's fine but even Shams was forced to admit that his reporting doesn't include what KD wants, which is crucial since he's on an expiring deal.  Shams used to get all of information via agents, so this sounds like through a competitive agency he's hearing this.  Again, I don't think the Spurs will be the place because it would require KD basically pushing to come here and without Pop as coach, I don't think he will make it get messy.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like the only way he ends up in SA, which is fine.  It just means we may end up with a really young squad and better next year but not ready to really compete for championship, maybe a playoff berth.

I need the KD to SA talk (mostly clickbait) to go away

Why?  It's a very real possibility, it's simply about the price.  I have a feeling another team may end up giving a pricier offer, but if we can swing a 3 way deal and only give up Barnes, Keldon and stuff along with maybe a first and swap then it could be a great get.  We shouldn't be giving away the 2nd pick unless we can get a star in their prime.

1-7.  But Bueckers is their best player (faint praise indeed).  She's the 2nd highest scorer, 4th leading rebounder and first in assists (4th in the league), steals (6th in league), and blocks.  She's not shooting great but that should change as efficiency is one of her most beneficial traits.  Her team is terrible and therefore she's not getting much burn.  The franchise will get another top 5 pick and be much better positioned to try and make the playoffs.

. Luxury tax increased, OKC would have to pay the repeater tax, the NBA fucked OKC by bumping KD’s contract, ownership didn’t want to pay, Harden also rejected their offer forcing their hand. Yes it was a shitty trade, yes it fucked them, but it’s not as simple as “Presti traded him to keep the idiot from ESPN”.

Kerm gets the context.  They didn't want to pay the repeater tax, they were sort of landlocked with Perkins in trading and they thought they could get a hometown discount with Harden and offered under market.  They offered undermarket with Ibaka too and he signed first.  But Harden wanted to start and wanted starter's minutes too..... And he obviously showed he was worthy of being a starter and he gave NBA fans all sorts of failure in big moments and unclutchness that we can enjoy forever.

Doesn't have the dibble drive game of Hill nor the ability to turn the corner on a defender, which was elite.  Probably a little better shooter from distance than Hill.  How tall is he on the real?  I know he's listed at 6'9".  He really reminds me of Lamar Odom except without all the knuckleheadness.  And a basketball savvy Odom would have been a problem.

  18. Extremely embarrassing showing for the Wolves.  Hard to see where they go from here other than change parts on the edges.  With no real picks, they'll have to get lucky in development or free agent market.  Could they get someone to actually pay for Rudy?  maybe.  That could be a way to clear some cap space and get some draft picks and reset.  I don't know, then you risk losing Ant, although he's signed for awhile.  Regardless, they need to find a Robin who can make Ant better.

For reals?  I guess because she plays a very rote WNBA post position where it's all under the rim, she's not as well known, but she's extremely accomplished.  UConn product, US Olympics gold medalist, NCAA champion, WNBA RoY and first team WNBA multiple times.  She also created the Unrivaled league with B Stewart.  I don't know a ton of players in the WNBA, but Collier is probably a top 5 player in the league..... which, of course, is your point.  She's eons better than Reese and probably should be more well known....
