A friend with two boys there sent me a message that she had received from a mom that has a son there working as a counselor. The message said the counselors rescued 60 boys out of cabins that were flooded. Those counselors are kids themselves. Remarkable work by those boys to save campers.

Those counselors need to have scholarships founded in their name.

Power just came back on. Just in time to throw all the groceries we bought yesterday.

Must be nice.  Still no power here and our HEB is closed indefinitely.

The last few frozen margs are on ice in the Yeti but I doubt they make until morning.

I would interested in getting some sort of confirmation on this one.

I was out on a run and saw the clouds roll in.  I was at Prickly Pear and West Rim when it started to rain.  I made one block to Cat Hollow before I turned early to go to the house.  Then made it 4 houses before I realized I needed to take cover (maybe two blocks from the house).  Huddled up next to a garage and saw all sorts of big branches come down and a shit ton of hail.

There were six-eight inches of water going through the street by the time I finally started to make my way back home.

Hi Neighbor.  I would be curious too.  The way it went from torrential downpour to torrential downpour plus 70mph+ winds in the matter of seconds was incredible to witness.  I didn’t get pictures but parts of this neighborhood look as bad as the snowstorm.  That was probably the third worst storm I’ve been through in Austin.  Only behind 2000 and 28yrs ago yesterday.

Hydromet east of here shows 2.3” in about 20mins (and not the good kind).  I guarantee it was more than that.

Worth it to check both for cost and estimated wait time. Takes about 30 seconds and there can be a big difference on both cost and wait.

Main problem I’m having right now is that uber is flat out bullshitting on their wait time estimate unless I’m DT.

Speaking of wait times, up until 2-3 years ago ABIA had an easily accessible link which posted real-time waits of each security check inside the terminal.  It was super helpful because, as you know, there's largely no rhyme or reason for much of the security delays at ABIA.  8am on a Monday morning?  Two mins tops.  1:15pm on Wednesday?  Line out the door and wrapped around to the Blue Lot and TSA pre is 45mins+ and hundreds have missed flights.

But somewhere along the way shortly after Covid ABIA took this feature away when they were "updating" the technology and, wouldn't you know it, the feature still is not back up and running.

    Pretty infuriating.

It's coming. Lots of lightning with this one.

Rainfall intensity is 3.35 inches per hour right now.

West Austin checking in with a sollllid .08”.

    We will rebuild.

cold and rainy again right now

I mean, no, not really?  It’s 62° and rainy and the low today will be…56°.

    Average high on 12/13: 61°

    Average low on 12/13: 41°

  8. I miss cold Decembers and Januarys.  Saturday and Sunday were perfect CenTex winter weather.  Cold, rainy, barely making it out of the low 50s…twenty-four hours later, record Austin high.

Cool day today, then back to the 70s by mid-week.  Overnight lows approaching our average highs.

Sure seems like things are trending toward another 80° Christmas.

  9. Kxan currently showing today’s high of EIGHTY THREE as the coolest high temperature for the next week.

Sure would be nice if one you would post one of those long-range, 14-21 day models with lots or blues and whites for Central Texas.

If you pedestrianize Congress north of Sixth, you'd turn a lot of those empty storefronts into some of the most desirable retail in the state.

That seems like an incredible reach.  In fact, I think you would see the exact opposite.  Cutting off the vehicular traffic would only further depress these 4-5 blocks.

Some of those existing businesses along the stretch would likely immediately begin relocating elsewhere as soon as their leases would allow them to do so.

  11. It would be interesting to see a comparison of this summer over the past 10-15 previous.

We've got a lonnngg way to go but this has felt to be among the "nicest" 2-3 summers since '07.
