  1. Summer updates- Ortiz, Scott and Markes played Canada future tournies in June. All got ATP points. Markes has played some more tournaments in July and has some really impressive results. Incoming freshman Huang also played some future tournaments in both Canada and Taiwan. Yuya Ito is on the Asian Games roster to represent Japan. Alum Glasspool won a futures tourney. Micky Reyes-Varela won his first ATP tournament and has a career high of 51 in the world in doubles.
  2. Initial impression of the schedule is that it's a really tough one. Basically all the same opponents from last year with the exception of Pepperdine (in place of Florida) and Rice (in place of Texas State and UTRGV). Big 12 will be tougher next year as Baylor returns almost everyone, Kansas and OU have highly ranked recruits that can change the programs, and TCU is rumored to get the highest ranked unsigned player from class of 2018. Got to win more indoor matches this year.
  3. Scheduling hard opponents have always been historically tough for Texas That was why for a few years Texas has played opponents such as the Italian A2 team, the Israeli national team and Chinese professional clubs during the season. Just a shortage of teams willing to come to Austin I suspect one of the reasons is that Texas is geographically isolated of consistently top teams. For teams ranked in the top 20, it's hard to fly to Austin and find another quality opponent for the weekend within driving distance. Otherwise they'd be breaking the budget. This is the exact problem Hawaii encounters.
  4. Woot! I think this tournament was played near Milan and near the twin's hometown. Looks like they're playing in another Italian tournament next week. Labrana is also playing in Ecuador.
  5. Yes it's a big win for Bianca. Molinaro has yet to turn pro (will graduate from HS in 2019 and decide later in the next year) so she's one of the top recruits in the world. Should also be noted Anna has reached a new personal best ranking at 766.
  6. Meh... I'll hold my judgment Honestly McKay did not bring in much offense. Just from an eye test I think Texas was way better off with Hill from a hitting standpoint.
  7. Anna is in the final of the Bucharest tourney! Good sign beating Stoica, who is most likely playing lines 2-4 at Tech next year. Bianca had a tough draw having former top 100 Mitu (coming back from giving birth) in the first round.
  8. Petra in danger of being bageled this last set
  9. Twins lost 4 and 5 today. Good showing, I believe this is Anna's first final in pro tourney. New article on Bianca- http://atxwoman.com/making-a-racket/ lol at the author describing Bianca as 'hard hitting'
  10. Turati's are in Romania this week and have reached the doubles final! Will face Mitu (former top 100 player) and Mandlik (teenage daughter of a four time Grand Slam champion and Hall of Famer Hana Mandlikova) Also playing in this tourney is Tech signee Stoica In Big 12 coaching news: -Iowa State finally got a new coach. He was the Tech Assistant Coach this year -KState head coach left to take the new HC position at Colorado. -OK State's assistant coach Hayley Carter has left her position to turn pro. Program
  11. One of the past alums Marlee Galbaldon- her brother played fast pitch and was once the volunteer assistant coach for the team I think the commentator (either Scarborough or Hooks) said she was shocked to see a young guy pitching
  12. Guessing she's taking the spot left by Wagland Her UTR would make her line 4 on the team
  13. Adrian? He got fourth in outdoors at NCAAs Sategna had alcohol problems
  14. Summer tennis has started...Bojana is in the 25K qualifying right now in South Carolina She beat Emily Fanning, who just played #1 at Kentucky and performed admirably in the tough SEC Next up is against Gail Brodsky, journey woman on the tour
  15. I have a friend who was an athlete at Lafeyette (not softball) and from what I understand from her, Lotief is still extremely held in high regard there from within the athletics department I wouldn't mind if Texas did hire him. As said, Texas could do a lot worse.
  16. The ITA draft for indoors just finished https://www.slam.tennis/ita/draft/2019/ncaaw As coaches choose where they play, you can get a feeling of which teams coaches want to avoid and others who they think they can beat for next season. Texas was the last regional to fill up. Will play Middle Tennessee State. Baylor (surprising) and Wichita State will be the other teams. Other teams that coaches had no confidence of beating are Stanford, Vanderbilt, Pepperdine, etc.....the usual powerhouses On the flip side, Oklahoma State and Northwestern were targeted very early. All spots filled up before the eighth call out!
  17. Interesting thought...could be why Wright decided to forego her last year.
  18. Bianca got a rough draw. Opponent was underseeded as Stefani was playing Fed Cup and pro tournaments during the season. Stefani is a former top 10 junior player and is currently ranked about 150 places higher than Bianca in the WTA rankings. Also close to top 200 in doubles rankings. Will almost certainly have a pro career. Anna vs. Anna tomorrow! After beating another Anna in the first round. Lol
  19. He was at Rice, which also doesn't have a softball team. But he was at Arizona, one of the old powerhouses of softball, as an assistant director.
  20. Stanford just won the tourney. Shows how much missing one player (Melissa Lord) makes such a difference. Still a really great season for the Horns. Two Big 12 titles. A top 10 finish. The top 3 players combined for under 8 losses and the freshmen showed a lot of spark. Let's see how the Turati's do in the individual tournament!
  21. Going to UNC for indoors now...
  22. No rain scheduled until around 11. Could get a match in. Just a reminder that last year, Tech beat Texas 4-2 indoors at the Big 12 tournament
  23. If I were Joffe, I'd start practicing indoors these next few days. Forecast is just rain, rain, and rain. Hate to lose indoors after being undefeated while outdoors all season.
  24. Texas had control the whole match. Good thing to see. Things really went downhill for the Ags when they double faulted three times at 3-4 in line two doubles. Facing Tech for the third time. It's tough beating the same team three times in one season...And once again Tech has made some switches in their lineup.
  25. This is what I've heard too. Clark is a bit of an 'old school' coach when it comes to recruiting... A bit honorable but times are changing and coaches need to adapt.
