Tried doing EP with a few people after another PE and failed miserably again. Really wish they would have gone the CoO or Archon's Forge way and made it to where the beginning is easier and then the difficulty ramps up.

It does ramp up in difficulty, it's just that the starting point is pretty fucking high on the difficulty/power curve already.  I have only managed to get past round 1 a few times with randoms, and round 2 is definitely harder.  I see why they did it, they were tired of people bitching about burning through the content, so they slowed down progression (fewer sources of powerful engrams) and made this activity scaled for very high power level players.  Kind of a lazy solution to the problem, I think, but at least I understand why.

I think it won't be as much of an issue as more people get to higher power levels.  The more annoying issue that won't change without a fix from bungie is the stupid matchmaking, where a fireteam of 3 spawning in to an instance pretty much guarantees that only one or two other players will randomly spawn in, and since there's no way to do 6-man patrols, the crowdsourced solution is to go in and spam random people asking them to invite your friends (and then sometimes to leave afterward, especially if they are lower light).  In some cases, people are apparently asking blueberries to invite their friends to get more people into the instance and then getting them to make one of their people the fireteam leader (hey, just promote so-and-so, they can send the other invite, so you don't have to type it in), at which point they kick the poor blueberry to make room for more of their friends.

when your matchmaking/fireteam setup encourages that kind of behavior, you dun goofed.  Of course, the bungie solution would probably just be to disable messaging people not in your friends list.

  2. Yeah, the Osiris stuff was not great.  They missed an opportunity with the procedurally generated stuff, it really could have been much better than it ended up being. I enjoyed the warmind stuff more for sure.

but as bungie says, the friendgame is the real endgame.

  3. I would add that the weekly clan XP milestone is currently bugged. The engrams drop using the soft cap rules if you decrypt them now (basically as if they were a regular legendary engram).

Bungie’s workaround is that you complete the clan XP milestone, but leave the reward uncollected. At reset, it will auto decrypt to the proper powerful reward light level and the items will be in your inventory.

The last I read, they were hoping to have that fixed in the next few weeks.

  4. I think everyone agrees that dicko is a badass who will do great in the nfl, but do we really think that “NFL coaching” is gonna make much of a difference for the guy?

maybe coaching for his special teams bros I guess.

  5. Just hate:

    Karl Malone

    John Stockton

    Danny ainge

    Jeff hornacek

    bruce bowen

Hate but would probably love if on my team:

    dennis rodman

    gary payton

    Rajon rondo

    draymond green

    Charles Oakley

  6. Man, I still can’t believe we lost to you guys and that coach.  And that people actually wanted to keep Charlie afterwards.

Did Kansas fans think the program had turned a corner at that point or what?  I’ve tried hard to block the memories from that time.

If anyone has not yet played the new expansion, I recommend doing it. The campaign itself leaves a few things to be desired. But the additional lore, and end game content is back to a D1 level. It’s pretty fun.

Bungie still needs to address a bunch of stuff, but they’ve made a lot of progress.

Yeah, it is pretty good so far. The real test will be how people feel about it a month from now.

The progression of light level seems like it’s a little wonky to me. For example, the heroic strikes are 350 recommended light, but are dropping rewards at 340.  Seems dumb to have stuff drop lower than the light level for an activity.

I get that they wanted to slow down progression to max light, but just make things drop above your light but only by 1-2 points or something. As it stands it seems like they took the existing issue of people not having anything to play for once they did their weekly milestone stuff and made it even worse (since all of the clan engrams are no longer powerful engrams, just regular ass legendaries that drop below your light level).

Also a bit frustrating that it’s a good thing that they are ALMOST back to as good as things were at the end of D1. Some things are obviously better, but there were just so many puzzling self-destructive design choices.

This expansion definitely seems to be an improvement though. Hope they keep making progress.

  9. Got mine downloaded, I’ll give it a shot when they finish the server maintenance or whatever.  It will be interesting to see how the game is after being gone for a few of these incremental updates.

I wanted to play some 6v6 banner, but just never got around to it, too busy with god of war.  But since I finished that one and far cry 5, it’s a good time to check back in with destiny.

It is better than the first two games.

Granted I am only about 2 hours in, but it definitely feels like it has more depth. You still have the Light Attack, Heavy Attack, Block, Dodge/Roll gameplay where you chain different light and heavy attacks to do certain combos; however, you also have the ability to aim and throw your axe, have your boy shoot shit with arrows (even mid combo), and it seems like every type of ability can be upgraded. Not to mention you can place rubes in your axe to unlock additional special abilities.

You can still probably get through the game spamming one or two buttons, but the depth is there to utilize.

IMO it is definitely more advanced than God if War 1-3.

There’s also a whole skill tree of unarmed combat with block/parry and shield attack/kick/punch skills, and a whole skill tree of the spartan rage mode.  There’s also at least one whole extra combat style that you acquire further into the game that I won’t spoil here.

Basically if you think there’s no depth to the combat, you’re spamming cheese moves and playing with the difficulty too low.

Hilarious that anyone can watch this mess and blame WB.  If George and Melo are average they win this game.  They both sucked.  Shocking.

Do you even Playoff P, bro?

Reviews are too good for this game to just suck.  I will probably download this weekend.  I too am curious about the skill progression and mods are.  I like mine simplified more so than constant tinkering.  One thing I didn't like about Zero Dawn was the constant tinkering with weapon mods based on the machine.  Do you get a lot of that in God of War?

I have gotten a little further into it, seems like there will be plenty of XP to open all the branches of the skill tree if you aren't just speeding directly through the story (maybe even if you are, I have a ton of XP I'm just hoarding until more upgrades become available to me).

I haven't switched gear based on enemies yet, but I'm not playing on the hardest difficulty.  I suspect it would be helpful there, but I haven't needed it.  For example, I have some enchantments that give defensive bonuses specific to the enemies I'm fighting in this one area, but I never bothered to put them on my gear, and I cleared the area out already.

The one thing I have switched on the fly is my artifact- just another piece of gear that gives you bonus skills/stats.  I have been wearing one that gives extra defense and a bonus to the parry skill, but if I get dangerously low on health, I jump into the menu and swap it for one that lets me restore my health on the fly.  But even that wouldn't be necessary if I was fighting more efficiently.  Sometimes I just get impatient with groups of lower level mobs and start button mashing, which gets me into trouble quickly.  With bigger boss-type fights, I focus in and it's fine, but the groups of enemies attacking at the same time will take you out quickly if you get sloppy.

So I guess I'd say that at least on normal/hard difficulty, mod tinkering is not required, but will help out.  Also, it seems like the situational mods are useful for whole areas, so even if you switched them out, it wouldn't be every fight, more like when you change areas (I've spent a few hours in the first area, and a few hours in the second, to give you an idea).

After proclaiming following Game 3 that he was going to shut down Rubio, Westbrook came out ready to back it up, picking Rubio up full-court, scrambling back to get in a deep defensive stance and clapping at him as they lined up to go one-on-one.

    ...

"It's not about me and him," Westbrook said when asked if his aggressiveness with Rubio backfired. "Let's get past that. We're done with that."

gotta love Russ talking so much before the game about how he was guaranteeing to shut Rubio down (as if Rubio was the key offensive player for the Jazz anyway), coming out like a scrappy dukie benchwarmer with the low stance floor slap style clapping in Rubio's face on the first possession, then saying "It's not about me and him" after he self potatoed into those 4 first half fouls and his team got wrecked.

That first boss fight was the best fight I've ever experienced in a video game. Damn.

Yeah, that first fight was pretty crazy, moving between the “scripted”events and live action is so seamless that sometimes it takes me a second to realize I’m in control again.

Lot of fun so far, love the axe mechanic, but I’m wondering how well the progression will work, in terms of breadth vs depth. Sometimes in games like this I worry I’ll end up missing some cool part of the skill tree, so I end up with early branches everywhere but don’t get to the deeper stuff.  Fear of commitment I guess.

The sidekick has been ok so far, not a ton of help, but not really a hindrance either.  I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do once I get a little further in. He basically seems invincible, but during one fight he did get grabbed by an enemy and a warning indicator appeared over his head.  I killed the enemy so I’m not sure if letting that go on too long would be a game over or what.

I appreciated the inside joke when you fix the antenna tower and Dutch says, “I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry, I’m not gonna make you climb every tower on Hope Island...”

I think one of the reasons I lost interest in FC4 was because I didn’t feel like climbing 25 towers again.

We should play some co-op, although it kind of sucks that they seem to have fucked up the progression in co-op, it's still fun to just run around and cause mayhem.  At least it was the one time I tried it.

I didn't even recognize your new avatar.  Fuckin Kevin, scrambling the deck and fucking everything up.  what an asshole.

I haven't tried any of the arcade games within the game.  What do they do?

They all connect to the same Farcry arcade system. Basically it's user-created levels that you can play.  There are something like 4 or 5 different game types, and each map will be a specific type.  There's escape, bounty hunt, a few others that are single player or co-op.  I've played maybe 3 or 4 maps, so I can't say too much about it.

Then, there are also deathmatch maps, both solo deathmatch and team deathmatch.  I haven't played any of those yet, so I can't say how they are.

My general impression is that it's as you'd expect with user-generated content, there's some shit, some gold and a lot of in between.  There are maps made by UbiSoft, so those are probably pretty good. Kind of like they embedded a LittleBigPlanet type experience inside of Farcry.

Something really nice about it is that you can get perk points for leveling up in the arcade (I think it's just basically like an XP type thing, kills/points/objectives go towards leveling up), and those perk points are the same as the ones from the main game- so you can get extra perks unlocked from the arcade.  It also gives you cash, same deal- you can use arcade cash to buy stuff in the game.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention to the press for the game, but I feel like this part has some pretty good potential and was actually kind of undersold.

  17. I played a bit in each of the three territories (played enough in each territory to get a feel for it and unlock the companions), and just finished the first one. I went with Jacob’s territory first, it required the fewest points to finish, plus I wasn’t crazy about the mechanic of the forced missions that they throw in there. Won’t say too much else because I don’t see a spoiler tag option in the editor here.

Anyway, I unlocked the parachute, wingsuit and air drop perks, and they’re great.  AirDrop gives you the option to drop from high in the sky  over your target whenever you fast travel.  Then you can cover a lot of ground from there with the wingsuit, so if you pick a fast travel point near an objective you haven’t visited yet, you can sometimes fly all the way there using the wingsuit.  It’s great in the mountains.

all in all, still a pretty good time.  The companions are great, the two companion perk is a must-have for me.  Also shovels (and melee weapons in general, but especially shovels) are amazingly overpowered.  I didn’t realize you could throw them like spears, they one shot basically everyone, and you can retrieve them after kills.  And there’s a perk that lets you carry 9 of them at a time that I think only costs 1 perk point. I took down an outpost using the dog (to tag enemies) and just the melee takedowns and thrown shovels without being detected. It’s great, I highly recommend the shovel life.

The silver bars are one of the things giving me pause. Did they put enough to make to enjoyable or do you have to spend more real money to get all the cool stuff?

    10 hours ago, MadBurgerMaker said:

From what I've seen, you can buy everything with the in game money (or by unlocking as you progress).  You don't even need the bars that you find.  There are a few things that have to go through that Ubi Club thing, but I somehow make coins or whatever in that just by buying the games.

yeah, in my experience so far, you can buy everything with the in game currency- to clarify, when you're looking in a shop's inventory, for the item's cost it will say something like "$1000 or 25 silver bars", so anything that can be purchased with the silver bars (microtransaction currency) can also be purchased with in-game dollars.

And as people have said here, there are also have plenty of silver bars available to find in the game, so they're not even really a microtransaction only currency, more like an alternative in-game currency that you can purchase more of using real world money.  People seem to be reporting that EVERY outpost you liberate has a stash of silver bars hidden somewhere inside- there's a little disagreement over this on reddit, but I have found silver bars in every outpost I've liberated when I actually looked for them.

On top of that, there are ways to make in game dollars super quickly by hunting animals and selling skins (stack up the perk that gives you double animal skins with the backpack perk to let you carry more skins, and use the bow to kill the animals, and you get 4 skins per kill, and can carry something like 10 skins of each animal in your inventory).  So even if you don't want to spend time looking through bases for silver bars, you can still make enough money to buy everything if you never find a single silver bar.

But even though it's easy to grind in game money, I actually haven't needed to do it at all yet, I've been able to buy stuff I wanted just from the money I've acquired by playing the game normally.  Although to be fair, I haven't bought any vehicles yet, just scopes and suppressors for weapons, so you'll probably need to grind if you want to buy everything.

All in all, a pretty painless and unobtrusive way to include microtransactions.

  19. Got the game yesterday, played through the intro section and did some co-op. It’s been a blast so far.

Found a bow and liberated a camp completely undetected by sneaking around and taking everyone out quietly. Swapped it for a machine gun and went in to the next one guns blazing.

Rescued a cougar and got it to join our party, that thing is deadly.

Then we jumped into a seaplane and flew around the area. We saw some bad guys in a boat, so we just came in low and smashed their boat with our plane then took off again.

Stole a car and one of us stood on the hood while the other drove us into a group of bad guys as a rolling death machine. Unfortunately the cougar didn’t jump into the car with us, but it followed us and was around when we got out.

I’ve only played maybe 2 hours and as you can tell I haven’t focused on progressing the story at all, so I can’t say much about whether it’s good or bad.

But the go anywhere from the start, do whatever you can think of gameplay is definitely here and feels great.

I did quickly learn to change the radio off of the cultists radio station whenever I take one of their vehicles.

I thought STP was there, maybe not.  It was a while ago.  I do remember that Body Count was also there, right around the "Cop Killer" time, and I think they had people from other bands come on stage with them and play drums or something like that.

I remember during Ice Cube's set he was pissed that everyone that was there for all the grunge bands decided to use his set as bathroom break/beer time and at some point had the crowd chanting "Party over here (to everyone still up at the stage), fuck you over there (to everyone over at all the food/bathroom areas)"
