    i dont understand how strong of a conviction people have and how finely attuned to music they are to be able to rank background instrumentalists from different bands.

    people will say shit like "the best bassists in 80s rock are from def leppard, motley crue, van halen, and then bon jovi".

    in blues music, the guitar is front and center, and albert king obviously has sound unique from john lee hooker and from jeff beck, and you can have a favorite out of them.  but for drummers and rhythm guitars you must be a fanatic to discern that stuff right?  i suppose its like non-"skill" positions in football.  i couldnt name 10 NFL Right Tackles for a million dollars.

    I am a drummer and have been playing for over 55 years.

    So I am not a musician.

    However, I can easily pick out any instrument in a song and follow what is being played. I am partial to listening to bass lines in songs.

    Oh, and Paul McCartney played some of the greatest bass lines in history.

    I Saw Her Standing There

    Rain

    Nowhere Man

    Dear Prudence

    To name a few.

    I don't follow Texas high school football, but I went to the game at DKR when Lee played Westlake.  Cedric was a beast that day, and Huston Street seemed in on almost every tackle.  It was fairly comical, but that guy hung in and did his best as the last line of defense.

    I used to see Ced fairly often at the gas station where Dry Creek hits 2222.  He was almost shy.  Interesting dude, and a helluva football player.  The highlights above bring back a ton of memories.

    Man I was also at that game.

    He was a beast.

    The Golden Bachelor has revitalized the franchise. Ratings are up 3x over previous recent seasons. Golden Bachelorette coming next. He’s 72. Had 22 GILFs in his harem.

    Every time I saw a commercial for this shit show that dude was crying like a pussy.

    I will never understand how anyone with half of a brain could watch shows like these....

    Reality shows that have a dozen or more writers.....that is really "reality".

    Wow.

    This comes from a man who was forced to face, and then chose to face, his own demons. As alcoholism was stripping away everything most of us hold dear, for reasons we cannot possibly understand, Sark was granted a second chance at life. For his own redemption.

    The scientific community cannot fully explain why some people recover and many others don't. The persons with whom I have spoken who struggle with addiction issues or mental health issues, explain that even after recovery, the demon is still there every day.  They have just either discovered or had revealed to them stronger coping mechanisms to keep that demon at bay. Every day.

    Sark has already overcome perhaps the largest obstacle he will ever face. That is the type of man you want leading your program. That is the type of man you want inspiring the young men on the team.

    People will always bitch and whine and gripe and complain about Sark. After all, it is so much easier to stay on the sidelines throwing rocks at the man in the arena. (and besides, we are Surlytians... that's what we do!)

    But, the vibe surrounding this team, its "culture" is reminiscent of a past time of success.

    Toxicity is gone. A new era with all of its potential and promise of pride and greatness is here.

    Great post.

    I love Sark being our football coach.

    That culture video is one of the best things I have ever heard any coach say in my old ass life.

    I'm not sure any individual school NIL program really matters for basketball recruits like Tre or Cooper Flag. Guys like that are getting their coffers filled by a much larger scale of vendors who are ultimately all hoping to secure their services when they go pro. Basketball is a lot different than football due to the enhanced level of certainty you get with top prospects.

    Excellent point.

    • $1,429.22 in gingham-checked tablecloths, purchased from Amazon. You can see one of the tablecloths in the background of this photo that Sanders posted;
    • $812.50 in bamboo plates of various sizes and white and red-and-white pompoms;
    • $778.50 in flowers, candles and tablescapes from Tanarah Luxe Floral;
    • $760 in additional help;
    • $733.25 for 2.5 hours of a photo booth;
    • $600 for a DJ;
    • $500 for balloons from Brooksie Balloons;
    • $434.91 for rental of lighted letters spelling out GO HOGS;
    • $210 for giant inflatable footballs for decoration;
    • $124.92 for 24 junior-size footballs from Five Below.

    Mansion staff ordered an additional $1,031.88 worth of goods from Sysco, which included coffee, dessert toppings, assorted fruit, spices, spoons and herbs. Another $297.86 went to an unidentified vendor for salsa ($55.78) and miscellaneous micro greens and other last-minute vegetables ($242.08).

    Throw in $121.38 in trash bags, $159.64 in pizza for the folks who worked all day and evening to make the party happen and $78.85 to rent a cart, plus a few odds and ends like $60 for red napkins, and it is easy to see how the total for this party quickly climbed north of $13,000. (Receipts and records provided also did not list any alcohol purchases, though it is unclear from the few photos posted of the event whether any alcohol was served.)

    As for the game, Arkansas defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts 56-13, though the on-field performance was largely overshadowed by ticketing issues, lack of available water for fans in 90-degree heat, and pre-game boos for Sanders and her husband.

    Ironically, if somewhat predictably, the whole “Undefeated” party theme and the “Best Gov/Best Coach” buttons would not age well. Lecterngate was in full swing by Sept. 15, while Arkansas lost the first of six straight games on Sept. 16. That is hardly an outcome that would justify spending $13,000+ of other people’s money.

    You do have to admit that throwing an undefeated party before the season starts is a good idea.

    What if I told you that Earth, Wind, and Fire will be in concert with Chicago here in Houston and Fort Worth in August of next year....

    I will tell you I worked for the Austin band Extreme Heat back in the 80's and we opened for them at the Erwin Center.

    Great show and The Heat blew the doors off of that place.

    They still play around town occasionally and I highly recommend them.

    You don't need to hold office to lead a fascist movement. You simply need to continue to evade and dely and deny justice long enough to spark enough chaos to seize the moment.

    We are currently riding right down the middle of that track and heading towards a cliff. Every day we delay trumps accountability is another notch more dangerous

    Good post and very true.

    Well I'm one of the few who definitely saw and knew he would be the number one back for us, but am shocked he's the best RB in the country (unfortunately tearing his ACL. Fuck.). I just think Sark is not as smart as he thinks he is. How many blown leads do we have? He tried to hire Mike Stoops before being told to sit the fuck down, and then he already has tape on Brooks, and he had 5 TD's last year, and wanted to "start" a frosh just to see how well he does. This ain't a smart man. I don't care how well a kid practices, he's doing against our defense every single day. The responsible thing would have been to start the guy who learned from 2 of the best we've had in recent years who had a lot of experience. Yes we're 9-1, but Sark has literally lucked into this record. Yes, sometimes you need luck, but if we played anyone ahead of us, and Bama now, we would get our skulls cracked in because of game management, as well as who he starts. We have Michael Taafe out there. Sark has been here 3 years, and he can't find literally anyone better than that?

    Anyway, as for my TED talk you could be right, which makes Sark a moron and shows again how out of touch he is with the guys he's coached under. It's like he learned nothing from Saban. We have a 5 star receiver who has shown flashes and barely plays because Sark just loooooooves letting any scrub back into it, sans BYU.

    This might be the dumbest fucking post I have ever read......

    You know what?  You guys are sick and twisted, but at least you had integrity.  But now you're just full of shit.

    For 20+ fucking years, I've been on the myriad incarnations of this site and there's been forum after forum and thread after thread about what we'd do to a tall blonde with big tits and daddy issues.  And everybody chimed in their same version of deviant fantasy.  Then...there comes along an actual decent looking blonde with big tits and the most serious daddy issues since the book of Genesis who is so down to clown in poundtown, it's not even salaciously viable...and all you fuckers just conveniently get a moral compass?  Fuck that.

    We'd all smash our political release into her while she squirted her guilt out and everybody'd fucking love it.  I mean, if you can get past the part where Jared's in the corner jerking off chanting about what time it is in Dubai for some weird reason.  Seriously man, I don't need your 'time/weather' creepy voice stamp getting the way of my strokes bro.

    This might just be a Surly Classic Post.
