TCU does NOT bring the metroplex. Tech needs to distance themselves from every school except Oklahoma State.  And possibly Kansas.

I went to LinkedIn and pulled alumni by school for DFW and Houston metro areas.  Tech has just about as many alumni in DFW as UT and also has a decent presence in Houston.  That is beyond their strong position in the 2M population in the Panhandle and South Plains.

They need to be marketing to the PAC-10 that they give them:

    1. A foothold in Texas for recruiting
    2. Eyeballs in DFW and Houston
    3. Central time-zone game times
    4. Competitive teams in most sports
    5. Improving academics
    6. A very willing and motivated partner in Oklahoma State

    Dallas + Ft Worth

    • 142,027 – North Texas
    • 110,037 – UT Arlington
    • 76,036 – UT Dallas
    • 63,992 – Texas A&M
    • 47,212 – UT Austin
    • 47,039 – Texas Tech

    • 11,319 – Arkansas
    • 9,896 – Houston
    • 8,091 – LSU

Houston would be vastly better than Baylor for a variety of reasons. The PAC-12 could do MUCH worse than a 4-some of Tech, Okie State, Houston and Kansas.

I said earlier in this thread Tech and UH would be a good package for the PAC 12.  But someone said nobody watches UH in Houston, yet they have the largest draw there by a significant amount. Well not draw neccessarily, but alumni.

Per the FWST, sounds like Baylor, Tech, and TCU are shopping themselves as a “package deal” to other conferences.

If true and you’re a Tech fan, I would be livid.

This makes no sense.  Baylor and tcu need Tech more than Tech needs them.  This, if true, is a poor move by Tech.  But then again they have a history of making bad decisions.

Performing a song exactly the same way every time, just like on the album, and performing the same concert with the same songs in the same order every night, with only rare exceptions, is not as impressive as going out and improvising and playing a different show every night. Alex, Geddy, and Neil rehearsed that show rigorously before they went out on tour. Alex switched those same guitars the same way a hundred times. It’s not the musical feat you think it is.

No offense to Rush or Alex. They have their place and their charm. They were my first concert and I’ve seen them a handful of times. My brother is a huge fan and he could go see the exact same show three times in a row. I don’t get that. I could go see the Dead three times in a row without ever hearing the same song twice. I could see them five times in a row and when I heard a song played a second time it didn’t sound exactly the same as the first time. Sure, you got some musical flubs and missed lyrics here and there but you forgave those for the sake of the bigger picture and the adventure. You heard music that was never performed before and would never be performed again. Every show was a unique experience.

Plus Dead shows had a lot of hot hippie chicks. A Rush show was a sausage fest.

You want to go down a rabbit hole? You want to see a guitarist who plays a lot of guitars? Go to YouTube and search for “KVHW.” Fans of Steve Kimock (the K in KVHW) don’t just keep setlists, they keep track of which guitar he’s playing at all times. I can hear the differences and I recognize certain sounds but I’ve never made an effort to match the sound to the guitar. The really hardcore fans can do that.

Ok. This is the things that annoy me thread. Another thing that annoys me is the Dead, they are a hippie wash out band that sucks.

  4. Ok, this just drives me nuts.  I go down the rabbit hole of fake and true people who react to music they never heard before.  And yes most of it is bullshit.  But nobody recognizes the incredible stuff from the video of Rush playing Xanadu on Exit stage Left.  If you have not seen it, go fuck yourself and eat some sausage.  Alex Lifeson switching between 12 and 6 string guitars is really fucking amazing.  These people are like, Double neck guitars ,that's neat.  Some smart guys get the key, and the theme signature changes, but no one gets the actual difficulty level of performing this song live.  And on top of that pulling it off in 1981!!!

  5. So they shopped in town today and apperantly the locals were willing to haggle a good amount on their stuff.  So I can only imagine what has been purchased.  She texted me that the family they had issues with the first night was right behind them coming into dinner, and are currently sitting next to them.  Same guy is giving that table the same treatment she got the other night.  I guess when you are on the Spirit Airlines of the sea you just have to suffer.  We will see if there is more to report later.

On my end, fuck the cat.  I get over there to feed it and change the liter.  Well the cat shit all over the bed and the house smells like well cat shit.  JFC, I clean it all up and wash some stuff.  And the cat is just sitting there looking stoned with a no fucks given look.  The cat is pissed.

Bloom Jacob A & The Lions Castle Trust

Interesting.  Jacob Bloom was an attorney to the stars, and retired in 2019.  Sly was one of his clients.  Along with everyone else.  Depp is apparently suing him for 50 million.  No wonder he is selling.  Sounds like a good opportunity to low ball the guy.

Jake Bloom was a movie star lawyer for the movie star era. Yes, he negotiated deals, some of the biggest Hollywood has ever seen. Bloom made Johnny Depp very rich thanks to the profit definition he crafted for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He helped Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone become global action stars. For George Lucas, Bloom, with his partners, carved out the Star Wars merchandise rights that turned an indie filmmaker into a billionaire.

gosh, hope I run into them. I love cruise ship people. They aren't like Walmart people, at all.

Think you have missed the point.  Wife is not a cruise person, and is not enjoying this trip.  Part of the reason is the low brow people on the boat.

In Cozumel today.  Should be interesting.

  8. So no real report today.  They had afternoon tea, then went to an art auction.  I told her good luck at dinner tonight, she responded with they are not sitting at the table tonight.  They are doing a captain dinner thing and if that did not work out she was doing buffet.  They were in the room by 9:30.  Typing this I just realized I may be the proud owner of some new cruise art,  paging mitchcumstien.

Meanwhile my job is taking care of the MIL's cat.  It is very particular, and mad the MIL is gone.

edit.  Fix the shitty spell check on your site fat chewy.

You realize at the end of the cruise you're going to get a huge charge on your credit card for add on expenses. It's so easy to just swipe you ship ID and not think that there's real money tired to every swipe, especially on your first cruise. I think there are some bankruptcy lawyers here who can be of service.

Not worried about any of that.

  10. So update.  The wife would kill if she knew I was sharing this.  They go to dinner, and they have a family sitting with them.  The son in the family has a mental handicap.  While I would never make fun of this, the fucker asked my wife to be his "bed companion" for the night.  She refused, and he then he proceeded to ask her mom.  She said no too, but JFC, do Have to worry about retards hitting on my wife all week now?  Don't answer that, I already know.  They are back in the room at 9pm, and grateful they have TCM on the TV.

Had similar in a United lounge a few years ago, quiet lounge, many businesspeople working on laptops, this family comes in and the 2 kids are screaming and running around, even running into other people's luggage and knocking it over a couple times. Parents did nothing. It took quite a bit of restraint for me to not trip the kids as they ran past me the 15th time.

This is irritating.  Had this almost experience before.  But a cunning attendant took them aside and took them to a family room where the kids could be as loud as they want and let us live in peace.

Just got off the phone with her.  They are waiting to get into their room and in her words.  "I am sitting in a shitty dinning room with my luggage, lunch was awful, and I am already regretting this trip.  Why did we get on so damn early" Backstory MIL is a cruise person, she was really wanting to go on a trip and guilted the wife into going.  So wife goes and so far is not impressed at all, says it is like circus circus in Vegas and reminds her of the movie Wall-E.  They are on a Carnival boat, the Breeze I think, going to Cozumel and back.

Tell her to bring her expectations WAY down and just enjoy the journey. It's Carnival. It's like walking into Walmart expecting a Saks Fifth Ave. experience.

Oh yeah, expectations are down.  We are not cruise people, and she is used to a different type of vacation.  She will make the best of it.
