Does anyone know the logistics of how the vaccines are distributed each week? For example, if a hub is allocated 7,000 for the week, do they get them all on the first Friday of that week (which I think is the starting day)?  Or do they get 1,000 a day - totaling 7,000 for the week?  Or in some other way?

In theory that’s how it should work. I’m reality, sites don’t usually know until day before or day of what quantity they are getting in a particular shipment.  In our county sometimes they have come all together, and sometimes broken into multiple shipments.

72% vs 95% is not an apples to apples comparison and gives a dangerously inaccurate portrayal of the effectiveness of the JNJ vaccine.  So far the data shows the JNJ vaccine is 85% effective against the original variant, and that it was 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and death.  The data also shows the effectiveness goes up over time.  And all of this is with a single shot that doesn’t require refrigeration.

Its fine to label the JNJ as slightly less effective than the Moderna/Pfizer vaccines, but only as a footnote.  If the JNJ vaccine were the only one available it would be more than enough to end the pandemic.

  3. One of my favorites. I remember being excited when The Pacific was first coming out after I had seen Band of Brothers. After watching, though, I remember it being almost depressing. That’s what made me dive deeper into studying the Pacific campaign. It amazes me how different the two theaters were.

I’ve heard that the best way for a location to get more doses is to keep proving they can quickly inject the doses as quickly as possible. The state wants more vaccinations so successful locations and providers will be rewarded with more and more opportunity. And I don’t believe there are guarantees, but it makes sense this will occur.

That’s my understanding as well. All doses sent to our county are in arms within 2-3 days after receipt. Small county and only getting 400-500 per week, but at this rate we will have the whole county vaccinated in 6 months. That’s if everyone would take it. We know that isn’t happening...  So we may be done in 3-4

  5. Got my second dose yesterday.  The nursing student was hot (no pics, sorry didn’t want to be that guy) but she gave the damned thing into my tricep. 😐

I was talking with the health department director while she was giving me the business. He said they are expecting to get 400 first doses every week going forward. On top of that he is requesting 400 additional first doses to transfer to the hospital and my Shop. Looks like that didn’t work this week, but hopefully next week I’ll be iff the sidelines and into the game.

  6. Cliff notes from this weeks EVAP meeting. Texas is doubling down on the Hub model and expanding the number of hubs and funneling more doses through those sites. That model is expected to continue until J&J’s vaccine gets emergency approval.

For week 7 they will prioritize hub sites, hospitals, local health departments, dialysis centers, and counties that haven’t received previous allocations.

There was discussion but no decisions made regarding defining 1C and when 1C will be allowed to be vaccinated.

Basically you’re best chance is going to be through hubs until J&J comes online.

And this is why lawyers in contract law will always have work

You must not be familiar with how contracts in pharmacy (independent pharmacy) work. It’s take it or leave it. No negotiation. You don’t like it? Fuck you.

Here, sign this contract that’s says I can reimburse you whatever the fuck I want and you can’t fight it. I can throw you out of network for whatever the fuck I want. You have to fill every script that one of our members brings in no matter how much fucking money you’re going to lose.
Without some meaningful reform you’re going to be left with Cvs and Walgreens as your options.

The same companies who Texas is using for long term care Covid vaccination who have only given 25% of the doses allocated in 5 weeks. Giving that contract to companies whose business model it is to purposefully understaff their pharmacies was a death sentence for thousands in LTC.

People cite the state numbers but if you actually go to the Seton link you and I are discussing, you can see every single place but Bastrop is backlogged at least through Wednesday next week if not multiple weeks.

Just doesn't make sense. How is Central Texas using almost all of their first batches and the state is at 20% or whatever? Rural areas are probably much lower than Austin but even still..

We saw how long it took to get accurate case and hospitalization reporting. So I'd be surprised if there isn't some lag.

I know for a fact the state numbers are wrong. And careful about bagging on rural areas, our county has received 500 vaccines and every single one of them is in a fucking arm (futureman pun intended). Because we are hiring Urban Meyer...
And the state shows we have only given about 250 or so last I checked.

A lot of the pharmacies don't seem to have vaccines yet.   One told my mom the middle of January.

Something like 500+ pharmacy’s will be getting allocation next week. Don’t have details on which ones yet. Just total number. I have a conference call tomorrow and might know more then.

Much respect, @4HE. Sounds like a minor miracle that y'all pulled that off.

Thanks. Served close to 600 in 45 mins. Yard bird titties were moist as hell. Did not have a bad brisket in the bunch. Mostly cubed/sliced mixed with chopped. So they got some lean and moist. I’m proceeding to tie one on. Wade Bowen is singing west Texas rain in the background. Life is good.

Scoop up all that debris and put it on a bun. Achieve nirvana.

Close. Mixed it with some sliced sausage in a homemade tortilla. Topped it with Hatch Big Jim. And it slammed and went hard. Sorry no pics...

  13. 29 Briskets are all buttoned up in 200 degree ovens. Most of them temp’d at around 130 degrees after just over 4 hours on the smoke. The ones in the big chamber farthest from the firebox were lower at about 110 degrees.

I’ll check them at 8:00 or so in the morning to see where we are. There is discussion about “shredding” or chopping the brisket because the Chamber sold more tickets/plates than they ordered... 🙄

It goes against my grain to not slice those bad boys after all this work, but I guess it’s better than running out of food.
