  1. Hey! The green chile thread…how us old, fat asses mark the time these days!

My buddy in Albuquerque told me that he had a new favorite green chile cheeseburger in the state, his old favorite being at the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid, I knew I had to take him seriously. He said it’s at a restaurant in downtown Capitan, NM called Oso Grill. I’m never down that way anymore, so I’m counting on one of you dudes to check it out and give a report:

Fried green chile strips as app:

    CFS looks bad ass too:

Right across the street from the Smokey the Bear park (my kids used to love that place).

Rained a little bit today in Texline. Sunset pic was about 9:15 Texline time. Of course about 100 yards from that pic it was 8:15.

Rabbit Ear Mountain.  Love that country out there…Rabbit Ear from the top of Black Mesa a couple of years ago (about a 100 yards from Mountain Time too).

I was just talking with my buddy who has a place out there early today.  He was worried about his tanks running dry if this storm didn’t come through.  Very happy for all the folks about in the Hill Country.

My wife really didn't complain about motels until I pulled into the Travelodge in Memphis TX a few years back. Now everything must be planned, and she'll probably have something like, "Made us stay at the Travelodge In Memphis TX" on my gravestone lest the people forget my transgressions.

I had no idea my wife had a sister…

  5. Lake Murray south of town is nice.

Dornick Hills CC is a great track if you get a chance to play golf there.

A buddy of mine lives not too far from Ardmore and says Cafe Alley has excellent food.  Aforementioned Turner Falls north of town is cool.

Other than that, I’ve got nothing.  I’ve driven by there several hundred times but rarely stopped.

Leche quemada is the name of that type of candy.  And here's a blast from the past:

    r/Austin - a menu of a restaurant

That is a blast from the past.  We had a Monterrey House in Tulsa around 18th and Sheridan we’d eat at least once a week.

  7. Finally made a close facsimile of one of my favorite dishes at Madam Mam’s - Guay Teaw Nuer Sub, or F12 on the menu at Bee Caves.  Damn it was good to nail it after several misfires (Tulsa Thai scene is virtually non-existent).

  8. My daughter and I were back in Austin last weekend and she requested one of her favorite restaurants from her childhood - Tuk Tuk on south Manchaca.  Unfortunately, since Covid they are only take-out but allowed us to eat at one of the front waiting tables.  Still very, very good.

Tulsa’s Thai food scene sucks, so thoroughly appreciate the abundance of great Thai choices.
