Are we not allowed to have demographic profiles of our consumers any more?

Yeah, that math is patently absurd. It’s almost like COTA knows that a real pro soccer team and an outdoor music venue in the middle of town would be a serious blow to COTA. Serious enough to AstroTurf some local opposition.
In the end, overwhelming positive response from the populace will carry the day.

Newell's Old Boys and Scunthorpe United have always been my two favorite.

This should prob go on another thread but she is almost unbeatable. Has the pseudo liberal NIMBYs, Central auston crowd, ex leg network, and Austin Neighborhood Assn.
Running against her would be a fools game. She and Alter are the worst. And unbeatable in low turnout races like City Council.

Doesn't everyone plan on getting to the airport early so they can have an overpriced beer and watch yoga pants walk by?
That’s how I roll. Why would someone do it any other way?

Fuck the USL.
So what about the other resolution asking for negotiations to begin? What kinda feeling do y'all have re: Flanigan, Kitchen, & Casar? Does either side have the votes they need to get their resolutions through? And of course, y'all know there's suddenly, conveniently, gonna be a competing official proposal for the site, right? After decades of non-use, suddenly someone "wants" it just when PSV wants it. Interesting coincidence.
I think it’s super interesting that Code NEXT and MLS both have 4-4 voting blocs but they aren’t the same.
For both - Adler, Renteria, Garza
For Code NEXT/anti MLS - Troxclair
For MLS/anti Code NEXT - Tovo
For Code NEXT/? MLS - Flannigan, Casar
?? Both - Kitchen
Anti both - Alter, Pool, Houston
I think Casar is good (b/c PSV will deal with Workers Defense Fund which is his base) and ultimately Flannigan is pro-business. Which is good, because we don’t want to leave this in the hands of Surly’s favorite taxi cab advocate.
A mayor with more political will could twist some arms and make both of these deals happen.

Nothing wrong with selling to an investor.
Totally agree.
If your only motivation for taking a position on Code NEXT is to sell to an investor, who is going to maximize their own value, while hiding behind 'community character' to guard against increased density (which serves as competition for you and your investor making as much money as possible), then that's a problem. Or at the very least, it super hypocritical.

Fuuuuuuuck me. Disappointed in Tovo for signing up with the worst among us.

Hmm I live in D7. Is there a suggested message. Should I just call and say hi I wanted you know that this D7 resident is for the stadium at McKalla?
That’s pretty much it. If you want to add that it’s a net positive to the community as a whole, with possibilities way beyond soccer (like concerts),and would create a bunch of jobs, that would be even better.
-
Pool posted a non awful update on the official Council message board. Maybe she’s coming around. If you’re in D7 and up for a call or email to her office, now is the time.

Any twitter thread on Austin FC is overrun by save the crew and SAFC people.
Also, after twenty years of McKalla place sitting there, there are all of a sudden developers that want to make it an arts district.
I ended up getting sucked into a Twitter argument a couple days ago with some guy from Columbus who was suddenly an expert on the history of economic development and budgeting in the city of Austin.

Or they would get stoned.
From an early May AAS article
The Longhorns almost had a deal in place to install grass — for free, too. The American-Statesman reported Wednesday that Anthony Precourt’s group nearly reached a one-year lease agreement worth $5 million to install grass and bring the Columbus Crew Major League Soccer franchise to Royal-Memorial Stadium.
According to an MLS source, Crew officials now regret not pushing that deal through.
If Herman is already concerned about offseason wear and tear, how would professional soccer matches affect the playing surface? Most college and NFL grass fields show wear and tear by November.
Think that deal is still alive.

When is the vote on this thing?Team continues to strongly push the narrative that it has to happen by the end of June, if it's going to happen at all.
Good to hear about Kitchen. Feel like this is wrapped up as long as it can get a vote. Which, considering CodeNEXT issues, is not guaranteed.

Was it this thread or a baseball thread that mentioned some work going on at mike Myers? I'll see if I can find it...
ETA: Here it is. Tony Soprano posted this Monday in a baseball thread talking about the turf on our various fields. Anyone got the scoop? Is it happening?
PSV isn't doing anything there until they are sure they have a deal. So, I think it's unrelated. Also, the last potential deal I read was that PSV would play at DKR, not Myers, in exchange for grass.

The stadium rendition looks outstanding. Not sure how even the CC could fuck this up - but I’m sure they will find a way to do so.
The good thing is they only need six votes. I’m guessing Mayor/Pio/Tovo/Casar/Flannigan are in. Pool/Alter are out. Means they just need one out of Garza/Kitchen/Houston/Troxy. Seems like the kind of thing Troxclair could support and I can see Garza being on board if there’s a commitment to small business.

What's the latest move? Are people giving COTA shit on twitter? Their twitter guy is very defensive.
Much of the fight I’ve seen is between the Austin soccer community and people from Columbus or San Antonio who have suddenly become very concerned about affordable housing in Austin.

Who is Leslie Pool?
I now officially live in Cedar Park, and do not understand your strange, Austin ways.
A terrible city council member, different from other terrible city council members insomuch as she can’t seem to make a complete thought. Alter is almost as terrible, but she sounds way smarter about it.

Yeah, did you see my post on this in the Austin FC thread? Don't get me started...again. These guys are shameless.
Guess who showed up at Gracywoods HOA meeting tonight (that both CMs Pool and Alter attended) with some very questionable “facts” about MLS attendance, land valuation and tax benefits of other uses of the McKalla Place site?

Except that city staff can fully evaluate all bids. So the Epstein bid can be seen as the fugazi it really is.
