  1. PSV and city reports came out today. Very strong proposal from PSV and city report is also supportive. It would take a fool to be opposed to this thing.

Leslie Pool continues to be hot garbage with her comments. Meeting with her Tuesday in a small group. Hope soccer comes up.

  2. I bought my first HD TV in November 2007. Watched a top five matchup between Kansas and Missouri that very night. Seeing Mark Mangino in HD for the first time was.......something. Almost took the television back.

The drinking problem is a BIG one. I have many retired/almost retired friends that clearly now have a drinking problem. They got bored, started having happy hours here and there, and now it’s a full-blown dependency. Everything they do revolves around drinking. Definitely one of the biggest retirement problems to beware of.

Having kids did this to us.

  4. Hey guys, "Council" isn't a monolith. If y'all would get off your ass and get engaged, as opposed to letting the HOAs and labor groups run the city, we could have a lot better outcomes.

  5. It's a great idea, but since the bitchy status quo NIMBYs actually participate in civic government and don't just lob bombs on message boards, it's an overcomplicated mess. The Planning Commission has made a lot of good moves today to improve what comes before Council and I have a little bit of hope that things will improve. The original version imagined a dense and connected city, but then the anti-growth assholes convinced people that all of their neighbors were going to knock their houses down and build high rises on the lot next door. And people bought it. The development community, Chamber and affordable housing community are all in favor of it.

As far as the petition goes, it came about from people basically standing outside of grocery stores and lying to citizens about what Code NEXT does. The only notable thing Council has done since the passage of 10-1 was to ignore this bullshit and not put it before a vote.

  6. Feels like this should be in the COTA sucks thread.

MLS in Austin social at EastCiders tomorrow afternoon for anyone that wants to show up and talk to a group of guys that want a pro team in Austin and also aren’t affiliated with PSV. Only downside is that my kids will be there.

  7. What happened here?

    Re: lawsuit.

“I can’t comment on litigation, but I can tell you it hasn’t hit the pause button on bringing MLS to Austin,” Suttle said Tuesday night.

If anyone wants to let non tech savvy cheapskates know where they can view this, please help a brother out.

Google "The Dare TV." Pretty much every TV show ever for free.

  9. Although the weather was great, the parks were open, and the overnight camps were festive, we acknowledge that the new finish line presented significant challenges. Please accept our sincere apology for the inconvenience and frustration. We pride ourselves in providing an outstanding event experience, so we are devastated that the new finish line was not seamlessly executed for our event participants, volunteers, supporters and spectators despite our best efforts. We acknowledge the difficulties you and your team experienced, and your feedback is critical. We want to hear from you and include you in the plans for 2019.

  10. Pretty good turnout tonight. City staff and MLS2ATX reps presented. Nobody spoke up in opposition. Future meetings on the 3rd, 8th and 10th.

I assume most of you assholes live in Austin.

{Serious Question Disclaimer} Why in the ever loving fuck would you want an Amazon HQ in Austin? Isn't there enough traffic already? Have you not noticed the smog or the crowds?

The employment/population increase numbers are overstated because everyone jumps to the 50K at the end. They're not coming all at once. There's no reason we couldn't build the infrastructure to support it based upon the incremental benefits it would bring.

Regardless, our do nothing Council has sent a clear message that we are anti-growth, and it has resonated on a national basis. Amazon knows what's up and will respond accordingly.

  12. First of threeish community input sessions on very short notice tonight @ the Pond from 7-9. Going to try to make some of it.

Thankfully I can get to Raleigh, Buffalo, or Providence RI non-stop but if any one from the dozen publicly traded energy/services companies in Austin want to fly to Midland?  nope, fuck you.

non-stop service to McAllen, the heart of the Rio Grande Valley...one of the fastest growing regions in the country?  Nope, fuck you.

I'll give credit to ViaAir, they're at least looking into it.

Southwest used to fly to Midland and it was empty as shit.

I’ve done 6 of the MS150’s.  Last year was brutal, but we still finished in Downtown.  I’m surprised it’s a shit show at COTA.  The MS150 people run a good event.  They can’t be happy about this.

I’ve done the last four. I’m going to actually prepare one of these years.

Logistic issues were all on COTA for sure.

  15. Handling of the event. Taking an hour plus for people to get in to see their family finish. Over an hour and a half to catch a shuttle w my bike back to the parking lot and the truck pulling the shuttle died most of the way up the hill, so we had to unload and walk the rest of the way. Heard one of the BP ladies yelling at COTA people on the radio.

Adding another reason why Austin needs to be lowering property taxes, not raising them.....because they love to set that money on fire for the fuck of it

ex.  the city temp fences off a football size area of our neighborhood park.  They go through the process to create an entire temporary irrigation system covering the entire area, then they seed the whole thing and water it for two months, keeping the space fenced in.  The seed has now grown and the ground cover was completely covering the area for the last three weeks since the fence has been removed.  Fast forward to this week where they have brought in multiple CATs to clear overgrown brush and trees from around the protected area.  They ran over and uprooted all of the seeded field to dust, ground cover gone. - Even Forrest fucking Gump could have figured out the proper order for these morons.

Fence, seed, massive irrigation system, watering daily for two weeks....complete success...only to two weeks later complete kill the entire thing

It is this type of idiotic execution that reinforces how irresponsible the city is with the money of others.  These morons should be matching dollar for dollar out of their own pockets for all of their waste

Realize this is a little late, but did you call 311 or the department responsible to discuss the issue? The only way the city is going to get better is if the average citizen actively engages in the process.
