pure time waster...but i sometimes end up down a rabbit hole watching those vids where people are reacting to various things.
most are boring, but sometimes they are educational/interesting (i.e. classically trained musicians react to Danny Carey live), amusing/snarky (that high end chef reacting to terrible home cooks: "hideous, 2 out of 10...i'd eat it. fuck, i hate myself."), and sometimes just really fun...
was watching some earlier today and this one was just a blast...
i think i enjoy these in particular bc they remind me of what it felt like to watch these movies for the first time. their reactions are so fun and genuine that you get caught up in remembering how fucking awesome it was walking out of the theater 😄 or how mindblowing the climax was, how you end up thinking about it for days after...or going back and watching it again.
the viewers are almost always young (millennials, genZ), and these movies are so much a part of the zeitgeist fabric for specific times and places in my life that i forget that there are whole generations of people that actually haven't seen Pulp Fiction, or Se7en, Usual Suspects, Sixth Sense, Heat, and so on.
anyway...PF was such a groundbreaking inflection point in American cinema... this particular scene was really a joy to watch so thought i'd share 😊
lol at "who the fuck is Fonzie?!" and "oh hell naw...i'm with Vince!"

everybody probably knew this was coming out except me lol...but this trailer when i went to my rewatch of Dune II in IMAX looks fun. it's on the list as long as it doesn't suck ass.
i loved the originals, creepy and fascinating memories in my childhood. the recent remakes have all been good stories.

Time to derail this thread with the Best Godfather Scene Discussion. I'll go ahead and post number one and y'all can debate second place. Pacino's facial expressions in this scene are just ... amazing. Some of the best acting ever.
part of the reason this hits so hard is before she responds you can see that he is telling the truth... in that moment he believes he can and will change.
we, like Kay, know he won't...but he's so convincing - and convinced - that we have a slight moment of 'yeah, he might change...'
i'll go with this one:

There's more sane responses on there than I would expect.
sorry, i had to take my posrep back lol...there are a few 'sane responses' hypothesizing actual possible factors explaining high Finn happiness levels...but there's literally NONE calling out the blatant horrifying racist remarks 😳 like, nobody is responding with "motherfucker you did NOT just say that!"
i like to think that would be the reaction of the majority of surly posters, even in DT. gotdamn.

are you seriously trying to tell me that you would just take all of this stride, shrug your shoulders, and accept it as if it was just some totally reasonable and simple request? i don’t think so. not even a little bit.
IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY KEEP YOUR JOB...then yes, unequivocally and unquestionably, you accept it.
IF YOU DON'T...well, you tell the company owner to go fuck himself and accept the consequences.
'reasonable and simple' have absolutely nothing to do with it.
is it fair, is it just, is it right? is it hurtful, is it shitty, is it vindictive? completely irrelevant, all of it.
even the folks in this thread who like and support you and think you are correct in your position are telling you this, including mr. sanctimonious 'everybody here is such a loser except me of course' jackass ^up there.
i'm sorry, but that's literally how the world works.

I've been an observer of the Longhorn internets since approx 2001; and was very a active reader of Shaggy from Day 1. You are one of my favorite contributors during that entire time frame. Even back when you were a "different person", I still always looked forward to seeing your hoops takes and thought it was really bizarre how many people (such as the "Hi" crowd) felt compelled to have real-life personal beef with you.
Fast forward to now and very little seems to have changed; so my advice is this: Please permanently leave this website and find a different/healthier outlet for expressing your interest in sports and engaging with other fans. Many of the largest influencers here do not have your best interests at heart (and that's putting it gently), and they never will.
I fully believe that anyone who devotes any substantial amount of attention/energy to an internet message board (and by the same token, mainstream social media) is fundamentally a loser. Time and resources are finite, and youth/vigor/opportunity costs are tremendously precious. The fact that there are many people here with tens of thousands of posts (translate those into conscious hours!) dropped into little more than an abyss of uselessness (95% of the time) or a vortex of hatred, division, and personal attacks (at worst) speaks immense volumes about their character as adults, parents, spouses, etc etc.
There is a reason so many posters fit similar archetypes of ultra-high incomes and professional classes...they are the same people (especially the lawyers) who everyone else on the globe typically despises for the way they live their lives and treat others. It is only natural that they translate their self-loathing into attempts to cope/compensate through sanctimony, condescension, frequently outright abuse towards others while safely protected behind their screens.
I aim to browse the board approx ~30 mins a week now to aggregate Astros news and pertinent insights relating to markets/finances. Fortunately that's because I (finally) have other important, meaningful, real-world human priority shit to do which was never that case when I spent hours and hours a day here (and not coincidentally, was objectively a loser during those same life stages).
I don't know your whole story, but I perceive an enormous amount of victimhood from you during this most recent episode without appropriate regard for the greater context: This place will never be uplifting for you, it will never be a source of joy/pride/confidence/health whatever. It is a fundamentally ugly place populated overwhelmingly by fundamentally ugly people.
There are certainly useful things you can "learn" here (like the 'Help' board) just as you would browsing google/reddit for specific topics of interest; but actually engaging anyone here and expecting anything different than the exact-same toxic pattern over the past 10+ years for you is horribly misguided. In the parlance of Tommy Boy, you are the woman in white gloves horribly upset by the mess made by ketchup popsicles that you insist on ordering over and over again.
Put this hellscape away. Take control of your own life and your own recovery. Bob, imaamac, motown, etc etc should not and cannot be the gatekeepers to your health, happiness, and well-being. May God bless you, and I hope to see you reach your full potential somewhere that is worthwhile.

Pretty much true, his 40 years on Capitol Hill really have paid dividends. Most effective president in decades. Miraculous under the current political landscape.
we were just discussing that with friends yesterday...he's actually kind of been really, really good at presidenting. even i have been surprised. we'll see if he gets re-elected how the second term goes... but he honestly might end up ranked higher than Obama.
of course, his opponent party has been wearing their underwear on their head and eating their boogers the whole time, but still... he's done a damn good job all things considered.

my second time making the NEISD recipe. used american and cheddar for filling instead of Velveeta. onions are under the chili layer, crisped up during baking.
i think i said this the first time but i forgot... the recipe has a touch too much salt. i made note on my recipe card this time lol.
anyways...these are sooo good and are the flavor we've been craving out here! 🤘

This is the most bizarre point of this whole escapade. Someone actually involved their mother in a Surly argument and the mod took that in stride and crafted some sort of detente that included input from a posters MOTHER…. What the actual fuck?
Truthfully it has me dumbstruck and questioning some life decisions.
i mean in general you live in the same deplorable basket as Sack but i broke my personal rule and pos-repped this because...yeah.

Running a message board is thankless work. Immamac takes a lot of crap (mostly good natured, I think) when the tech side of things fuck up, but I don't think he ever gets the equivalent amount of appreciation when things are running smoothly. And that's wholly separate from the babysitting of personalities and all the human drama bullshit that he presumably has to endure.
So thanks for doing all the tech shit and dealing with the drama too, @immamac. Your time and efforts are appreciated more than we collectively acknowledge.
just want to emphasize this. i almost posted something along these lines yesterday but decided to refrain...but yeah, sometimes i observe the drama or bitching that goes on and i'm just like wtf, as far as i know imma's not only doing this for free, it's actually costing him money, he's got a regular life, and job, and family, this is his spare time 'hobby' i assume, and it's pretty damn smoothly run all things considered. he has no analysts or QA/QC or testers, there are thousands of members, not to mention the organization of HHs, road trips, tailgates and NIL stuff in recent years...all ultimately to benefit the Texas Longhorns.
and me, bc i love this community and frankly it's the only place that kept me out of a really deep, dark hole during covid.
i do know he has help, but ultimately he voluntarily took on a pretty unwieldy and unthankful role. maybe he did it for the fame lol. but my reaction is often 'holy crap' at the amount of shit he puts up with.
and i have made a point several times in the past to acknowledge and thank him for the efforts, exactly for the reasons you say, @Prepuce of Doom
in this particular instance, while i honestly pay no attention to basketball, i am pretty familiar with the online melodrama and persecution complex often played out with the poster. more than once i have thought 'oh my gawd just shut up and get over it already!' 🙄 while also 😆 at the whole thing. and i actually drafted something yesterday expressing that in this thread but didn't post it, bc I just thought 'meh, dude obviously has some more serious issues, he probably shouldn't be on surly at all with his sensitivities' and decided not to.
ultimately i don't have to put up with any of this, it's my choice and everybody else's to even be here. the owner can do as he pleases. i would be pretty distraught if i were banned (DON'T YOU DO IT!!)...but i'm pretty thick-skinned and also don't make a point of being a PITA to a guy that is basically just doing all of this for shits and giggles.

we first had our French exchange student in 2017, when I was still capable of being shocked and surprised at how quickly things started going to shit after his election. one night i just went off at whatever shit was on the news and ended up on a tirade about just how fucking GROSS he was!!!
she didn't know what gross meant...so she learned a new expressive english word that will always mean 'Trump' to her #csb
