1. Blaine is criminally underrated.
To your other point...with all due respect to drummers (one of the only 2 instruments I ever got decent at)...let's be honest---99% of the time they don't write the music.  They do drive the song, but they don't originate it in most cases.  So I find "best guitarist" rankings bullshit because there's great guitarists that play well but write shit (Eric Clapton, I'm looking at you), there's guys that write incredibly but aren't that fantastic on the fret board.  There are guys that can do just crazy shit with their bottom hand (that's what she said).  and other guys that go riffs, and straight up blues chords, and on and on and on and back to songwriting via the guitar.  Most drummers aren't charged with the songwriting (obviously there are exceptions).  So I prefer to break them out into styles and genres.  The technical prowess and timekeeping is pretty much universal across all types so it's really just a question of blues, jazz, rock, country, etc.  You can either kill the kit or you can't, no matter what the guitarist and keyboardist are doing or what they wrote.  But every once in awhile, somebody comes along despite not much songwriting contribution and just takes over a whole fucking album.  Bonham, Moon, Carney, Bruford, Blaine, and a few others.  You can strip away the other instruments and vocals from the track and the thing just fucking gleams.

I dont disagree with any of that.

I think it’s one of the things that makes Peart so great - he was instrumental in the entire process for almost everything and if you strip away the noise, his playing is fucking incredible.

So many great ones.

2. Unless it is specifically about rock guys. I always find it interesting guys like Max Roach, Sunny Grier or Lenny White never get mentioned in these conversations. It seems as if people are often judging the music they played and not necessarily the talent of the musician.

How about Hal Blaine? That dude is a fucking legend and played on more #1’s than anybody.

There just isn’t a way to determine who the best drummer is. Same for guitarists. Same for painters. Same for athletes.

3. No, blow up some Jewish organizations around the globe. Remember what Iran did in Argentina? What about hitting a few synagogues in Europe? Or a consulate in some small country?
They will do something. And Al-Quds is global.
Fucking with diplomatic facilities is frowned upon.

So is kidnapping and raping women and kids.

FAAFO.

4. That el estepario dude has chops like nobody. I mean nobody. I do t know if there is another dude on the planet that can play his stuff.

And I hate it.

Dennis chambers is incredible. So many dudes.

5. Watts was another guy whose heart was in jazz. You hear it even more in later albums. Honky Tonk Women was a great example of tempo adjusting to feel. Mushy funk to R&B with a country/soul feel and back again.

And while I’m at the ol’ typewriter, a note on Phil Collins. Although it’s no longer considered witty or a provocation to talk about how great a drummer he was - and I say was because he was literally crippled because of his drumming setup - I advocate that he was one of the more significantly impactful artists of modern pop and rock music. Unbelievable as a singer, genre bending as a writer (or co-writer), and a drummer that helped smooth the transition between prog rock to prog pop to MTV pop.  I’d put him up there with Prince in terms of influence on overall importance during their active decades.

Massive influence Phil was.

Remember when he tried to back LZ and it was a fucking mess? Still, that dude is up there by some metrics.

6. Ask the "greats" who's their favorite drummer.  Most will say Ringo.

But yeah, fit is really important.  Weinberg is a great fit for the E Street Band.   If he weren't, Bruce probably would  have found somebody else in the last 40 years.

Favorite is not greatest. But I agree many of them say that.

I love Larry Mullen jr’s drumming. But he ain’t “great”.

So many good ones that nobody knows of.

Terry bozio is considered great and I wouldn’t spend 5 minutes watching him play.

7. There is no greatest drummer. They are all different - there is no single metric you can judge everyone by.

In regards to fucking Ringo - there is zero doubt that almost every other drummer on the planet could play what he played - but none of them could play it like he played it. He was fucking Uber creative and was a perfect fit for that band at that time. It was magic.

He could not play anything for Rush or LZ - disregard the part about playing it like Peart or Bonham played it. Can you see him playing those 16note triplets coming out of the samba on fool in the rain? Lolz.

Pearts my favorite technical drummer
Bonham is my favorite overall

Neither of them are the best. If that title went to anyone I’m not sure who it would be. You could make a case for Buddy.

8. Here she is.

Bergara B-14 Wilderness Sierra chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum.  On top is a Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44 BT Plex with Warne Mountain Tech 1 inch low matte rings on a Zero MOA Remington LA Mountain Tech tactical rail.
It’s absolutely the set-up I was looking for to take to South Africa.  300WM should take care of everything I’m after.  The redesigned stock with adjustable comb just fits me, and when combined with the silky smooth action and a little heft (9.05lbs unloaded) to tame the recoil, it checks a lot of boxes.  It’s not perfect, but it didn’t break the bank, either.
Still need to outfit it with a Swaro screw-in objective lens cap and a Tenebraex ocular cap along with a Slogan magnum sling.  I’ve got four cartridges to try and see what the gun likes to shoot: 180gr. Norma Oryx, Barnes TTSX, and Nosler Partions plus 200gr. Federal Terminal Ascent.  Then, there is suppression…
Soon…

Sincere thanks to Handcruser for setting me up with Matt at Arnzen Arms to get this rifle to me 2 months before it’s to be made widely available.  I can’t express how great these guys were in helping me out.  Looking forward to getting it out to the range in the next week or so to see what happens.  Will update with range results, ammo performance, and how it suppresses.

Awesome man! That thing looks great.

Matt is good people - you were always in good hands.

Enjoy and happy to help.

9. Best place in CenTex to trade handguns? for store credit, if better trade value, as I'd like to trade a few mid-range pistols for a higher end pistol

You will get 60-65% of wholesale

Most guns have a 20% markup

Example - Glock 19 is $599 retail so cost is $500ish. They would give you 60% of the 500.

It would be a $300 gun.

That’s pretty much everywhere unless you find a pawnshop low on guns. Then maybe $350-$375

What do you have?
10. Just for info. It was a good try. But they cannot cut, shoulder and chamber a rimfire barrel. Nice guys However…

If Troy can’t do it Robert probably can. Troy will get Robert involved if needed.

Either way - you will be in good hands.

11. Beatles -600m + records sold
Elvis - 500m +
Michael - 400m+

Elvis had a 7 year head start on the Beatles
Beatles had a ~12 year head start on Michael (I’m not counting his Jackson 5 shit)

Rethinking - it’s the Beatles. My least favorite of the 3.
