  1. I've only got the one short ride on it, plus the couple of demo rides from 3 months ago. It definitely takes some getting used to as it is a big change from my other bike, which is a 2012 Santa Cruz Tallboy. That's the OG version with 100/120 and 71 degree HTA. That bike is light and nimble and easy to throw around on the trail. It could be a little sketchy on rough or steep downhills. This new bike is a lot longer, 2lbs heavier, and the geo is drastically different. Not to mention the wide ass bars. So I'm still getting used to it and learning how to ride it. Seems like I'll need to be a little more aggressive with how I corner, but it does feel like it will rip given the correct inputs. It climbs well, which was important to me. And I could tell immediately that it eats up the rough stuff and downhill. Yesterday I hit a ledge feature a couple of times. It's about a 2 footer and on a downhill. Hucking off that, the landing felt really plush compared to the Tallboy. Overall I think the fun factor on this bike is going to be way above any bike I've owned before. Hopefully the trails will dry out enough to get in some rides this week.
  2. Did the same yesterday, rode the hills behind Meridian as that's about the only place on the SATN I could think of that would be rideable. I was able to get in a quick hour or so ride on the new bike. Did not see any yoga pants though.
  3. Yes 140/140 which is more travel than I was initially considering. But after taking one on a couple of demo rides, I was sold. I got the M10 version which is the XT build. As @Braff Zacklin mentioned, you get a lot of bang for the buck. You can also do any number of custom paint options for no extra cost. I'm boring so went with the charcoal/black look.
  4. And if anyone in or around the Austin area needs a bike, service, or parts, go see or email Wes at Velorangutan. He's a great dude with a great shop and stocks some nice brands. I think he's struggling a bit now as most small business are, and when I went to pick up the bike the windows were boarded up. Turns out the shop was broken into a week ago. Great timing assholes.
  5. I was almost afraid to post this, because holy shit is it a rainmaker. I ordered it 3 months ago then was informed 2 or 3 weeks ago that it was about to ship. But it was coming from Spain and 2 days after that notification they went on lockdown. So I wasn't expecting it for months, but it showed up 2 days ago. Have not ridden it except up and down the street in the rain. Not sure when I'll get to ride the thing. For now I just drink a beer and look at it.
  6. I have noticed that it takes a while on youtube for the HD version to be ready. SD version is there as soon as the video is processed, but I've found it takes quite a while for the vid to default to 1080 and I have to manually select it while viewing. I'll check out the linear setting on the camera, but I might leave the current setting for my sex vids.
  7. Stem envy? [emoji3] But that is changing very soon. More later.
  8. Couldn't tell you why. I'm pretty much a noob at the video editing still. but, I've got nothing but time these days, so I'll spend more time trying to learn it.
  9. Well it looks like rain as far out as I can see. Might as well mess around with some GoPro videos. I've been playing with wd's recommendation of VideoPad. I'm using the free version and while it looks dated and isn't as full featured as some other options, I think it is enough for my needs (which are pretty basic, really). Here's some random stuff from the south Austin trails, nothing too exciting.
  10. I think that's a good place to start. Start small, learn to land properly. It's been made apparent to me that I'm not a good teacher with these types of things. my wife made that clear to me when I was introducing her to wakeboarding and mtb. So I'm not going to give too much advice, but watch the below video. I've seen a few of this guy's vids and they seem to be pretty good.
  11. Nice! Guess I have to go hit it now too...the gauntlet has been thrown down.
  12. I also got a couple pics of the drop mentioned near Escarpment spillway. Kinda hard to tell from the pic, but the trail drops down from the ledge up above down onto a slope. There is a rollable line but you can't really see it coming from above until you are right up on it. That's the only thing that sketches me out about it. There is a switchback alternate line to the right.
  13. I didn't stop to get a good look at it, but I can't really tell which way you're supposed to approach it. I always come at it from the far side as seen in the pic, because you're kind of coming downhill toward it with some momentum. Not really the case coming the other direction. Also that lip you mention actually is pretty ramped up, so it may be the intention to hit that and you have the larger landing surface in the foreground. I went by it again yesterday and the kids were out there building more jumps near it. Bigger ones too, kinda BMX-style. I worry they are doing too much and the city will raze all of it because it is very close to, and visible from, the VCT.
  14. Do you mean the steeper drop down to the spillway, or the big drop right up the hill from it? I only noticed that big drop up the hill like a month ago. Looks perfectly doable, but I haven't worked up the nerve to hit it yet. Thought about trying it the other day, but then decided in case I fuck it up I don't want to be taking up precious hospital space during covid-19. At least that's what I told myself.
  15. Heh I saw this yesterday too. There were some dudes sessioning it when I rolled up, so I hit the normal version of it. Been seeing more features popping up down there. There's a little lip built on the trail that runs north of the creek between escarpment and MoPac, and I hit it by accident the first time through.
  16. Nice, dude. I look forward seeing some footage from your neck of the woods. Oak has always been the worst for me. On days like today when I knew I was riding and would be outside for hours, I start the day with Flonase and Zyrtec. Keeps it mostly in check and allows me to enjoy the outdoors. Those damn Live Oaks man, spooging yellow all over everything. Also with the dropping of the leaves, it sometimes makes it hard to see where the trail is going and causes corners more of an adventure than normal.
  17. I record at 2.7k and 30 fps. 4k is just too much, and I found that after rendering and youtube upload that the 1080 res videos just didn't look good enough. I've had more luck getting better looking videos using 2.7k. That could totally be my fault, and others might get the same result using 1080. Agree with wd that the chest mount is the way to go and I've only used GroPro branded. I don't have any extra batteries. It was never really a problem with the 3 I had, but I think the 7 drains the battery quicker as it has died on me more than the 3 did. Also the 7 has the case "built-in", so no need for the protective case which I did use with the 3. There was some audible "rattle" with it. I'm going to look into VideoPad as an option for editing software. I was leaning toward purchasing Vegas Movie Studio but I'll kick the tires on VP first.
  18. 91 today but look at the humidity...it isn't often we're in the teens, so I don't mind.
  19. I rode Monarch Crest 7 or 8 years ago. Epic. I did it solo, but would definitely recommend doing that ride with others.
  20. My recommendation is to spend a little extra and get one with the stabilization, it is absolutely worth it.
  21. I have a GoPro Hero 7 (well it's my wife's but I've mostly commandeered it as my own, lol). I had a Hero 3 Black previously which was good. But the 7 (and I assume 8 and up) has the Hypersmooth technology which basically negates the need for a gimbal in order to get smooth footage. At least for amateurs like me who aren't that serious about it. I've been pretty impressed with it so far. I use the GoPro Chest Mount. This is a good topic as I'm also interested in what people are using for video editing software. I used to (and still do mostly) use GoPro Studio but they don't make it anymore. I've tried a few other editors but haven't found anything I like that much. I'm a real noob at it and running Windows. When I had a Mac before I did like iMovie. Last weekend I took the GoPro out and got some footage of the Austin southie trails with the intention of just putting together a little highlight video of some of my favorite parts of it. Being stuck at home these days I should have some time to put that together, although it would be rather boring. I'd like to get better at the video editing part but, for me at least, it is quite time consuming.
  22. yeah I understand that. Since I live in far SW Austin I can get to Flat Rock in about 1.5 hours, and RPR is a little over an hour. Not a big difference for me.
  23. Great video. Lajitas is a place I've wanted to ride but have never had my bike when out that way. I need to make it happen. I was a bit surprised about the Flat Rock comment. To me, it is one of the best places to ride in Texas. In fact I was supposed to camp and ride out there this weekend, but rain and other circumstances squashed that.
  24. wow, that looks...not fun. did you have some riding buddies with you at the time to help out? Luckily i did, and they were way more freaked out than I was. I guess due to adrenaline, I didn't feel any pain until the ER doc set the ankle back. I still don't know why he did that and if it was a good idea or caused more damage.
  25. I got an x-ray of that ankle a couple years ago because it was bothering me. Sure looks like doc left a bunch of other shit in there.
