  1. We've been to DR 5 times (different resorts each time) and only Cabarete wasn't mega-sketchy outside the wire. And there was a plenty of Presidente at all of our resort. Now...we DID do excursions, but that wasn't what I was referring to... But, I will definitely take back my advice if you're going to be in the Cabarete area. Had a great time there and would go back again - without an all inclusive.
  2. So, as I posted in the other Boston thread, I'll be there for just one day. I fly in late Friday and fly out early Sunday so I'm staying at the Embassy Suites in East Boston by BOS. I'm thinking of taking the subway to Fenway, getting on the Maverick Blue line and switching to the Green line at Gov't Center and then taking that to the Fenway stop. Is that correct? Then take the same way back to Gov't Center and start walking up Hanover St and having a bit to eat or drink at each place. But, I was wanting to get some good chowdah, Scrod, and lobstah rolls. It's gonna be a fat boy day. And then good places to day drink on that path. I know there's the Union Oyster House. They were good the last time I was there, but maybe that was just gringo tourista food. Like Mi Tierra in SA.
  3. Two McRibs for $6. Yep. Lunch and dinner today...
  4. Don't know your age, but they first came out in 1981. McRib "Season" is a nebulous thing, only known to the Gods of Fast Food. There is no set start date nor end date. There is not even any kind of notification other than you walk in or drive by a McDs and see a sign announcing them. Then...and only then...do you get to know that your life has become better. That the GoFF are smiling down upon you. Get 2 at lunch. Or 3-4 if you're a big, hungry boy. Eat half at lunch. Eat the rest for dinner. Bring wet naps... Not sure exactly how long they smoke (I'm talking about the employees of McDs). But, I think they marinate them in crack water before cooking.
  5. I don't think I've ever seen a "half sour" in the wild (I.e. grocery store) so I've never tried one. Anyone know where I can find some without having to order online (not that that's a big issue, just seeing if there's any stores that carry them).
  6. I made some BLTs with fried green tomatoes that were glorious. I think having pickled fried green tomatoes might make it go up to 11.
  7. I've had 4 so far. (gotta get the fix before they go away) Yes I'm fat. Fuck you, they're tasty.
  8. You need to fix the link...clicking it redirects back to this page...
  9. Interesting...I just got an offer in the mail from AMEX to activate their Pay Over Time plan on my Platinum card. If I activated it, I'd get 20K MR points. I read through the paper work and saw no spending/paying requirements so I signed up. Says 8-12 weeks after activation to see the MRs in the acct. Hope some of y'all can be so lucky to get free money for doing nothing.
  10. According to everything I've seen, this change just affects how status is earned, not reward miles.
  11. https://aadvantagestatus.com/ Here's the link to the update
  12. I can see this driving people to their credit cards, since you get 1 Loyalty Point for every dollar spent. That could get you a decent amount towards status without even getting on a plane.
  13. Fenway Tour sounds cool. Only 2 real BB stadiums left(Wrigley is the other)...I think I may try to do that and then start eating and drinking my way back towards the airport.
  14. Since I'm only up there for a day essentially, I think I'll try to get some NE Yankee food...chowdah, lobstah roll, scrod, etc... BTW. what are the Rona Rules in Boston right now?
  15. Thanks! Any other off the beaten path things I should see in a 1 day trip. I've been before and done the big things like the Trail and Old North Church, Revere's house, etc. Just curious if there's something that's quick to get to but not what the tourons go to all the time. Is there a "favorite" bar you have in that area?
  16. I'm going to stay in East Boston by the airport. But, on Saturday I want to know the best/cheapest/easiest way to get to North End and then some of the other places there. OR...and I'm going out on a limb here....Are there any good places in East Boston by the airport? Also, are there any HISTORICAL things I can see in that short of a time....
  17. WhAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT????? Taxis taking the most expensive route? You canNOT be serious!!!!
  18. Don't you be hating on Tootsie!!!!
  19. Schrodingers' BBQ?
  20. I think because of my late arrival on Friday and early departure on Sunday, I'll end up staying close to the airport in East Boston. So, what's the easiest way to get from EB to the North End or and of the other parts mentioned above? Uber/Lyft? Taxi? Subway?
  21. I'll try that...
  22. I live on the Island. Mathis is a 1 hr drive. But. I AM gong to try out these options. There's also one down Waldron that just got started. "Gotta Have It." I'll try it and report back.
  23. When I was 1-5 years old I lived in Darmstadt. My folks were friends with a local German family. I remember when St Nicklaus came to the friend's house... It was magical. That's the only way to describe it. Kids in the US wouldn't understand.
  24. I get this sentiment... However, I also look at it from the other direction, too. Texas BBQ is what it is BECAUSE of the trinity and simplicity. Just like KC is known for burnt ends/sweet sauce, Carolina for hog and their different sauces, etc. I just hope this doesn't stray TOO far from the original. Don't want it to be like a list of the top 50 Tex Mex joints having a #1 because of their Lomo Saltado and Arroz Chaufa...just because they didn't stick to the origins of Tex Mex. That said, I'm going to have to try a lot of these new places. Glad to see DFW is getting better BBQ than Dickeys and Rudys... Now...I just need some good BBQ in Corpus.
