So stupid and so disrespectful of the passengers and crew members who lost their lives on the hijacked planes. We understand the who, what, when, where, why, and how of what actually happened. None of the conspiracy theorists can come close to presenting a plausible alternative explanation that covers all those bases.

Not sure if you know this...but jet fuel doesn't get hot enough to melt steel! PROOF!

And as we all know, everything maintains the exact same physical properties  regardless of temperature right up until the melt point. Heating something up doesn't make it more pliable!

I don't feel better either way but you're still kind of wrong. If the shooter had committed assault against the wife then the husband pushing him down could* have been perfectly legal. That's why it's an extremely important clarification.

    * - I don't feel like researching affirmative defenses in Florida law.

I'm not wrong, when all that has happened is the argument with the shooter and wife there *might* have been a crime committed (that would make the deceased's subsequent violence legal) but we don't know that there has been a crime. When the deceased comes over and shoves the shooter to the ground we know that a crime has been committed. Either the deceased actions are legal because they are in response to an assault on his wife (that we don't know happened, but might have) or if his actions are in response to a totally legal verbal argument then he has himself committed a crime.

This is a question of fact that is not proven. It is possible that he committed assault against the wife under the Florida statute before the husband showed up.

Would it make you feel better if I said "at this point we don't know that an illegal act has occurred?"

We don't know a crime has been committed until the dude shows up and shoves the shooter to the ground. Once he does that we have enough information to conclude that someone has committed a crime.

  4. He was in a verbal altercation with someone over an illegal parking job that person did, at this point nothing illegal has occurred. A third party enters the picture and shoves him to the ground, at this point a crime has been committed. He responds to being physically attacked by pulling a gun out.

If he shoots immediately with the guy standing over him on the ground I think there is no issue and he shouldn't be charged. He doesn't do this, he hesitates and doesn't shoot immediately. During the second or two while he's hesitating the guy backs off, then he shoots.

Is that enough time in a situation like this with adrenaline flowing for a reasonable person to realize the situation is no longer threatening and change their course of action? That seems like an appropriate question for a jury to answer, so I'm glad he is facing charges.

in speech when people substitute abbreviations is just as long to pronounce (=similar # syllables) to the original phrase.

like when people say "mpg" rather than "miles per gallon"

You do realize that in your example of abbreviations with the same number of syllables as the full phrase the full phrase has more syllables than the abbreviation, right?

  6. Let's re-frame this entire discussion:

"Man breaks up with girlfriend to focus on his career"

Doesn't sounds so crazy does it? I don't know the story, but the fact that he broke up with her to focus on his money-making ventures indicates to me she was likely beginning to interfere with said ventures. He didn't want the pro-gamer gravy train to be derailed so he kicked her out before she could derail it. If he makes serious money it honestly doesn't even matter what he looks like he'll be able to land a hot replacement girl who is set on proving that she's better than this chick and won't disrupt his career.

  7. I think you guys are getting the mindset backwards to some extent. It's not "if you draw it, always use it" but rather "never draw it unless using it has become necessary, and then don't hesitate."

Never pull a gun as an intimidation tactic to try to defuse a situation. Drawing a gun introduces or escalates the threat of death in the situation.

  8. When someone derails the griddle thread to go on a rant about how "chicken fajitas" is a nonsensical term similar to saying something like "chicken brisket."

Fuck you, although "fajita" refers to a specific cut of beef prepared a specific way, adding the modifier "chicken" to it makes the intent very clear: preparing chicken in the same manner that fajitas would normally be prepared. It's not destroying anyone's culture.

what an absolute shitshow.  spain deserve to die for their bitchassedness.   optics are very bad.  spain could have attacked with no risk as they proved from 85 to 90 and 115 to 120.

and no alexi russia have not taken it farther than you did in 94 when you actually PLAYED THE GAME TO WIN, not bunker to survive.  massive difference in the boraball from 94 and what we just witnessed.

This, very much this. They made no attempt to score for most of the game, just passed it around at midfield with their defenders while the rest of the team stood around with no movement at all. Horrifically boring, I guess their plan was for Russia to recklessly run at them leaving their goal undefended?

In all seriousness, how do you grow up in this country without ever seeing a baseball game and becoming a hardcore Arsenal fan (not to mention track and field)? I can understand not being a sports fan at all, I guess, if you didn’t grow up with it - I’m not a hunter, for instance, because my dad wasn’t, just didn’t grow up doing it-but your mix is definitely unusual.

So you have an opinion (that we should do everything possible to perpetuate our species) but you can’t explain or defend it. That’s OK.

His point is that you already know the answer, it's the same reason you do the things necessary to continue your own life even though it is a certainty that you will eventually die. You're just being a nihilistic shithead.

  12. Part of the problem with drunk driving is bars that have a sign in their parking lot stating "all cars in this lot will be towed at 3 am." Don't drink and drive, but if you DO drink a little too much you can't take a cab home or we'll fucking tow your shit.

It should be illegal for establishments that serve alcohol and have dedicated parking (i.e. not just metered public parking on the street) to tow customer's vehicles that are left overnight.

  13. I picked up some Dunville's recently after a friend recommended it and thought it  was pretty damn good. I generally don't have any irish whiskey on hand though, so my opinion might be completely worthless.

  14. I didn't want to pollute the real wine thread with this discussion so I decided to start a new topic dedicated to cheap wines and people who don't know much about wine.

I want to start a small collection of relatively inexpensive ($10-$15 per bottle) but still drinkable wine so when I have guests over that are wine drinkers I have something for them that they will at least moderately enjoy but won't cost me a ton of money. I rarely to never drink wine myself, I'm a whiskey person for sure, so I don't know what to look for. I'm looking to get 8-10 bottles of a variety of styles , can someone offer a suggestion of what styles I should stock to cover most wine preferences, as well as a few suggestions for bottles around my target price that an actual wine drinker wouldn't scoff at?

  15. If someone refuses to vaccinate their kids because they're too stupid to understand what vaccines do and what they don't do it should be sufficient grounds for CPS to take their kids from them.
