There will always be arguments about the last team, but the arguments have much less meaning as you expand the playoffs. It was a massive deal when it was #2 vs #3 (call it 40%-50% chance to a NC vs 0%). You get to 24 and it is something like 2% vs 0%

You're right but still it's wild watching the NCAA Selection Show and all of the crying and hand-wringing over the first four left out of a 68 team field.

You guys have lost your fucking minds. This isn't hard. There are only 5 maybe 6 teams that have the potential to win a national championship every year. 8 gets you those and some cinderellas that get a chance.

You then make things meaningful by having cross conference play as a tournament with bowl games or exhibitions that's a little akin go the NIT for basketball.

My idea makes more money and that's what this is really all about.

  3. The problem with the current format is there are too many AQs for only 12 spots. If you want that many then you need to expand.

Just use the same AQ model and expand to 24-team format like FCS.

Everyone will still bitch about the 24th team just like they do the 68th in the basketball tournament, but at least you don't have too many shitty teams blocking more worthy P4 teams.

  4. Quote

Brown University, one of the most selective institutions in America, attracted nearly 50,000 applicants who vied for just 1,700 freshman seats last year.

The university accepted nearly equal numbers of male and female prospects, though, like some other schools, it got nearly twice as many female applicants. That math meant it was easier for male students to get in — 7 percent of male applicants were admitted, compared with 4.4 percent of female applicants, university data shows.

The Trump administration’s policies may soon put an end to that advantage enjoyed by men at some colleges, admissions and higher-education experts say.

When men create a God among men (which is exactly what the GQP has done with Trump), and those men are only interested in serving their own ends, that ending is inevitable once the God dies/disappears.

Schism, fractures, with each branch staking to being "the one true faith, consistent with what God wants."  It ain't like we don't have any precedent to look to....

You are thinking like I am, but unlike a religion we're still dealing with a political party. If this were in Europe we could see the GOP splinter into several factions and parties, but our system lends itself to two dominant parties. When a third party comes along it either is defeated by the two existing or ends up supplanting one of the others.

We saw this with Ross Perot and the Reform party. Once Perot left the stage the party collapsed.

However, unlike Reform the GOP still has a pretty large infrastructure in place in spite of the fact that Trump has corrupted a sizable portion to serve his personal interests.

Oh yeah and the GOP will have not had a platform for nearly a decade once Trump is gone so they will have to deal with that at some point...

  6. It's clear that Penn State jumped the gun firing Franklin when they did, but I can't help but remember USC's coaching search after they fired Hackett. They had some very high profile names turn them down then had to "settle" for Pete Carroll. We know how that ended up.

Still, I don't see how Penn State gets out of this without doing the Rodney Terry thing which it appears they are going to have to do.

I don't really disagree with any of this. But I assume Stefanik is savvy enough to be looking ahead to a post-Trump political future by now. Several Republicans are beginning to try to subtly separate from Trump without him realizing that's what they're doing, she's on the short list of Republicans smart and ambitious enough to do so, and if she were to do that it would look a lot like this.

Naah.  She's running the reliable play with these moves.  She is sucking up TO Trump, not creating separation from him.  This (attacks on Mikey) is what Trump wants, she's doing his bidding to curry favor and accrue power.  She's too much of an incompetent, unqualified piece of shit to have any independent vision.

It's possibly both. She needs Trump in the immediate future to secure the GOP nomination for governor, but also needs to start positioning herself for a post-Trump GOP.

The competing narratives will be "this is what Trump wants/would have wanted" and they will tear themselves apart fighting over this narrative for the foreseeable future.
