DJ Harris is a 6’2, 225lb true freshman edge rusher. If you’re not happy with Bush this year, then Harris almost certainly isn’t the answer. He’s smaller and probably much less assignment sound than Bush. I like Harris a lot as a prospect but not this year.

The real problem is we took almost no good edge rush prospects between Ossai and Harris. Dorbah was one of the only high-rated edge guys we took and he’s been a bust.

I know who Harris is, I watched him in high school and followed him on recruiting boards.  All state 2 years.  I honestly had never heard of Bush before he showed up mainly this year ( I know how he was placed on scholly).

Right now Bush outweighs him by what 10 pounds.  No comparison in weight room from what I hear.  Speed?  We won’t even go there.  Assignment sound?  Coaching and yes experience.  Really how much university on field experience did Bush have prior to this year.

I know Harris isn’t today what he should become.  I also know he is one hell of an athlete.  I would like to see more athleticism on the field.  I think we have better athletes that I would like to see playing if only situational than the two BBs.

I just mentioned Harris.  As others on this board are saying, there are others we question about playing opportunities.   Bottom line, as we are questioning our overall team talent we may also wonder why some highly recruited players and even portals  are riding the sidelines.  Can’t we wonder?  Coaching? Maybe, maybe not.  As I said in another post, we will know in another 2-3 years.

It's amazing how little production we get out of highly recruited dudes like Alfred Collins, Vernon Broughton, Keondre Coburn, BJ Foster, Moro Ojomo, etc.

Right on.  I am asking seriously as I don’t know.  We all agree our linebacker play sucks.  Where in the hell is D.J. Harris?  He was 2 time all state, top 200 ranked national recruit.  He chose us over aggy and another meltdown!!  One of signing day descriptions…blazing speed, natural instincts.  I just don’t get why we can’t get athletes off the sideline and on the field.  KRob?

Get the ATHLETES we have on the damn field.  Spend a hell of a lot more time coaching with up athletes rather fooling with slow want to be than walk-ons.   Crap

  3. One thing we don’t talk about or perceive to be an issue is how difficult it is to recruit really solid, no miss O linemen.  It is much easier, coming from a more robust pool, to recruit quality running backs or Qbs than truly sure fire big butts.  Looking where we are today, it is evident we have done a horrific job and probably been a tad unlucky with recruiting.

Look back the last 2-3 years at the recruits we all thought we had to bring in, that we missed out on, who have been busts or are not seeing much playing time now.

Bottom line?  Line coaches have to work their butts off.  Too many of them are lazy or have weird personalities that hinder talking to and gaining relationships with recruits. You see examples of freshmen who come in and start playing right away.  They are athletic freaks and are very very rare.  As already discussed here, none of those guys are available in the portal. Most O linemen have to be developed and this is still where coaches earn their money.  Some can, some can’t.  We will see what we have at Texas in 2-3 years and that timeline  will be almost impossible to speed up.

we've been recruiting to play 7 on 7 for years, it's got to fucking stop. fucking pussy ass football.

You must not have watched the game. If you had, you'd know they were selling out to stop the run and it worked.

Agree with you T. I do wonder why we stopped those innovative quick toss motion sweeps.  Our first couple of series we had OU confused. In second half everything seemed like straight handoff with the occasional counter. Plus Still wonder why so little  KRob.

Guys like Brockermeyer and Busch should not be starting at a place like Texas. How many times where they just two steps behind or just didn’t have the strength to bring the ball carrier down.

Agree totally.  But is our problem talent or coaching?  If they are playing because those two are our best options with available talent.  That sucks.  If they are playing because a coach has a burr up his ass, that sucks even more.

    Getting old still sucks.

Good deal.  I hope I can still play golf when I am in my nineties.

There’s good talent in the southwest we can entice with games in their home region. Texas will be an attractive alternative for good players being wasted by Jo Evans who still want to play in the SEC

I think we’d be an upper middle pack SEC program (OU, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Texas/LSU) to start.

    Right on!

I'm of the belief that the main reason we are moving to the SEC is because our recruiting has slipped since aggy opened a pipeline to the SEC. We're gonna start to put together some incredible classes once the move is formalized. I think we'll be in the SEC in 2022 or 2023, but even if we have to wait until 2025 to play our first SEC game its not the worst outcome. This upcoming 2022 signing class, for example, would know that at the very latest, they'll play in the SEC their senior year.

The main reason we would  even be considered moving to SEC involves ESPN v Fox money battles.  Don’t doubt it, but good for Longhorns.  Hook’em!!

The fight was over before they realized there was one.

Well, ummm, "thinking things all the way through" isn't exactly an aggy strength.  Seriously, any child could game this out:

Option 1 -- Texas tries to come in, and we successfully stop them.  There's like a 2% chance of that happening, because the money is just too damned much.  And, ummm, we (aggy) ain't a power-broker in the SEC.  We are along for the ride, and everyone knows it.  And the Texas Lege isn't going to step into this one, except to issue statements and shit.  So, again, 2% is generous.

Option 2 -- Texas tries to come in, and we do everything a petulant little bitch with no power would do to try to stop them.  We leak the story, we bellyache to the media, we cry to state officials, and we all do so SUPER-publicly.  And we fail.  Meaning that the only thing we accomplish is to look like a pathetic little bitch to the whole world.

Option 3 -- Texas tries to come in, and even though we don't want them, we do the math on options 1 and 2 above, and choose the path of "if Texas thinks they're ready to compete with the big boys, bring it.  We'll see your asses on Thanksgiving."  That way, we look like a real-deal dignified program that actually believes in itself.

And yeah.  We all knew that option 2 was the only path that aggy would ever take.  Fucking aggy.  They just can't help themselves.

I’ve been thinking this is a great chance for SEC to stick it in little Aggy  ass.  Given the chance, I think they will
