  1. Urban was obviously successful in college but I don't think it would transfer as well today. Portals, NIL, grad transfers. All that has really changed the landscape. Guys just don't have to put up with all that bullshit anymore.

I am sure Saban is an asshole but there is a point to it and I think in the end his players respect him and what he is trying to do. Don't know if same about UM.

  2. I just remember when a popular professor who was an avowed Communist Anarchist got whacked and then offered full tenure at Harvard. Had a funeral for academic freedom at West Mall.

Most of the stuff in early 80s was vocal but harmless. Probably be better off we we brought it back. Way too much intolerance out there on all sides. We are being fed a steady diet of hatred and just eating it up.

  3. We were outmanned. Simple as that. I have to give some credit to Purdue. Their big advantage was inside and rather than feeding the lottery pick who had the tougher matchup they just sledgehammered us inside.

We had a chance until Painter pulled his head out and put Williams back in there. That dude is a monster.

  4. I will cut Shaka a tiny bit of slack in that I think Carolina has been playing well of late and if they get going they can hurt somebody.

But MU also gave up 58 points in second half to lowly DePaul a couple weeks ago. Their wheels have been off for a while.

Hes a fraud and they won't be patient about that at Marquette. Those people are serious about basketball.

  5. I have lived in Chicago for almost 30 years. It certainly has problems and a lot of things seem to be trending downward of late.

That said it is still a tremendous place to live. I dont think there is a better city in the world if you are in your 20s and 30s. Everyone is from somewhere else. Nobody gives a shit where you went to school. Easy place to meet people who will be friends for life. People here are down to party all the time.

Wouldnt trade my Chicago experience for anything.

  6. RE: the laundry lady knowing better, the scene is set in 1944.

From 1940 to June 1944 you had total Nazi occupation of that area and no real conflict with the German army other than isolated resistance fighter stuff. There wasn't anybody really at war with Germany in that area until summer 1944 so all of that had to be recent to them I would think.

  7. My issue is I have always hated being talked "at."

When you go to church, turn on news programming, or hit Twitter, somebody is always wagging a finger at you. Do that and I am out.

Search deeply for wisdom and peace, strive for something better, sure, but no matter what find a way to live in the present moment. Took me half a century to get my hands around that idea.

I'm a happy dude.  I don't watch any sort of "news" put forth by CNN, Fox, MSNBC  and the like.  I will watch if there is an actual event and then turn it off when the commentators and "experts" start weighing in with rushed "gotta-be-first" opinions.

This here. Unplug all that bullshit and live your life. Voila.

A professor at "Dallas College".  Who finances these imbeciles getting their worthless phds in worthless fields so they can go on and teach/indoctrinate others in wasteful fields of study?

Most of this country needs a fucking shot of testosterone. Badly.

  10. After Cruz butchered that fly ball I quit watching. I knew what was going to happen and just couldnt take it.

Still havent seen the game winner and hopefully never will.

Rangers may never be that close again. For someone who grew up there its a bitter pill.

  11. Dumped Comcast for YTTV. Wish I had done it a long time ago.

    Much cheaper. Much better.

Have an OLED TV in living room and watching YTTV through Apple Tv box is incredible compared to that throttled down cable signal.

Record all football games and next day watch key plays. Its sweet. And the Apple Tv remote fast forward button is pretty seamless so I dont watch many huddles.

More than anything the picture quality is key. Amazing for the money.

  12. Washington is going to backed into a corner now. Cant wait to see those emails. Going to be really hard to keep that genie in the bottle now.

My bet is that within a few weeks, Snyder or Goodell or both are gone.

Goodell's only job is to stand there and take the bullets for all the bullshit that goes on in the NFL. When he isn't able to do that he is history.

And good luck to anyone who thinks Gruden is some singular caveman. I bet elements of his attitude are rampant in the NFL. I haven't heard a lot of coaches and GMs comment yet until they try to scrub their internet history.
