I can't remember where I read or heard it, but I don't think I'm making this up. Anyway, years ago, I read/heard that 1,500 is pretty much the ideal size for a high school in that it's large enough to teach all the AP classes, but small enough so that students can still get the individualized attention they need for a quality education.

I don't know if that's a general rule of thumb or whether any actual research into it, but the number feels about right.

That sounds like what what Frisco ISD is trying to do. I know they have issues covering all the classes they need too. Some kids get bussed to a different school for some of them. Don't know if that is because of the school size or just because of how quickly it grew out there. They basically opened a high school almost every year for 10 years.

Starting in 2019, the Legislature made it pretty damned impossible for cities to annex neighboring unincorporated areas.  So you have fast-growing cities like Prosper that maybe had a plan to annex those donut holes, but those boundaries are now forever frozen.

And that's the product of recapture, which has now simply become a scheme to enrich exurban schools at the expense of rural and urban/inner-suburban schools.

And No-CR, but this is exactly why you see rural Republicans and urban/inner-suburban Democrats together in opposing the school-voucher scheme that Abbott and Patrick are going to push through in the next special session.

Anyone have a list of what districts pay in or receive from that?

This just doesn't seem like a very healthy way to educate kids, more like a cattle call. I wonder what the Student:Teacher ratio is, maybe Allen just employs a third of the teachers in North Texas:

16:1  (Plano is 14, Frisco is 17) so about the same as other districts close by.

I get why some people wouldn't care for such a large school. It's going to be pretty hard for most kids to make varsity. But they also are able to offer a bunch of classes that smaller schools couldn't.  I mean, they have an Archery and a Hockey team.

Isn't Allen the city that wrote into it's laws to only have 1 highschool (for football prowess purposes) and now it's so large it has Freshman A, B, C and D teams and a Marching Band that's larger than most smaller towns highschools with an 8 figure commercial kitchen for home-ec?

Yeah. That's the one. I don't know if it's a law or anything. I don't think it was specifically to be a football powerhouse though. As far as I know, their football is set up like most schools. Varsity, Non varsity and 9th grade

The decision on being a 1 HS town predates me, but from the olds I know, I think they just wanted to keep it that way. Part of it was that Allen ISD was pretty much fully build out about a decade ago, so starting about 2 years ago, the student population is getting lower.

Is anyone on this board living in a school district that, "does it right"?

That is obviously subjective, but everywhere I have lived(several different states) has pretty much been a shitshow in some way or another for facilities/costs/educational outcome.  My involvement/first hand knowledge was very low between school days and kids going to school so definite blindspot there.

I live in Allen and they seem to do pretty good. I go to about 150 different school campuses so I see a pretty broad range, but Allen is the only one where I go to the elementary schools. From what I've seen of McKinney, they do a pretty good job as well.

I'm convinced this state's priorities are as fucked up as possible, but I have to say, Bond proposals just means folks are willing to pay out of pocket for this shit, right? Show up and vote it in becuase they want that fancy ass stadium?  Shit, I don't blame the state, I blame the people. They fucking want it, and they will vote for it, but they probably pass it bigly while ignoring any funding that would go towards, you know, education. People get what they deserve.

What will be interesting is that there is another bond for a Fine Arts center on the same ballot.

IIRC, when they were preparing for an incorporation vote, they literally had people going into neighborhood and knocking on doors to survey people on how they'd vote if their property was in the city limits.

And to your other question... the Prosper Eagles have made it to the regional finals in football 3-4 years in a row now.   And they've recently opened at least one new HS, so this is a shared stadium like Cypress, Katy, etc.

They have three high schools and 4 middle schools right now. If this bond passes, they'll have 5 high schools and 8 or 9 middle schools. Probably do need a second stadium. probably don't need a $95M one though.....

All is this, but a good cappuccino is hard to beat.

The same Karens are also the ones who order cocktails at bars. At the bar, I get beer, or drinks with 2 ingredients max - gin & tonic; martini with an olive.

On the bar. Yes if it's like a sports bar or casual type of place. My normal go to is cranberry and vodka. But if I'm at an nicer restaurant I'm ordering an old fashion. or if it's a Mexican place, a mojito

I was firing up the grill, and decided to shift it a bit. Grabbed the corner of the side shelf, and I felt a sharp pain on the tip of my left index finger.

We have a bowl on the entry way where I dump my keys and change and stuff. Went to grab my keys a few weeks ago and one of those fuckers was at the bottom of the bowl.

I guess I can't imagine we don't access to someone, rather cheaply, who can hit above the mendoza line and play defense with a modicum of speed.

I didn't realize that having above average speed and decent defense was Big Show worthy, I guess.

    I agree.

Correct me if I am wrong. But, it's also Adolis out right? Adolis is heathy, then Jankowsky to left. Duran to 3rd base? Carter would still be in the minors?

    Leclerc'd.

First, I will fully admit with work I haven't been able to keep up as much as I want the last few weeks.

But, can someone explain why LeClerc was i. In in such a high leverage situation. Especially knowing that Clase was going to close if they got the lead. And he would be facing the #3 hitter.

I just don't get it. I'm not trying to be a dick on this one. I just don't understand the logic

Its full-on apple season here. We have a tree in the backyard thats giving off green apples. Trees in the neighborhood (like at the school next door) are overflowing with red apples. Our neighbors are putting baskets on the sidewalk offering theirs for free.

So why does my wife still buy apples from the store on her weekly grocery trips? Half of which is left on the counter to go bad anyway…

We have chickens. We give eggs away. We buy better eggs from Kroger......

Best thing about McDonald’s is the senior coffee. Anywhere between .50 and .75 for black coffee depending on location. Quick black coffee to go when on the road, better quality coffee than Starbucks with 1/10 the wait time.
And it doesn’t matter how old you are. McDonald’s drive thru attendants DGAF.

Not a big fan of McDonalds, but when we're traveling - they are my go to place for coffee. At home, I usually make my own, but in a pinch, I prefer Racetrac or QT.

I think the downplaying is to

    a) strengthen the narrative and mythos of our origin story (e.g. scrappy, tough-as-nails underdog against all odds, etc.) and

    b) Hamilton actually touched on it well-- to downplay the debt owed to France being obligated and beholden to help them out for in-kind aid.

Good points. I would also add that culturally and economically the UK has and still is our closest ally.
