  1. Only thing I would add is make it to Anegada.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hit Anegada while there a few months prior with a sailing instructor. We had terrible weather and a terrifying overnight anchorage. I didn’t feel comfortable in a monohull hitting the channel on my own so we skipped it. On a cat I was considering it on our upcoming trip.

We also skipped Cane Garden (6) and Sopper’s Hole (9) and stayed at Norman 2 of the last 3 nights. The family would have stayed 3 nights at Norman but I wanted to sail so we ended back at Cooper.
  2. I’m not sure what to expect in July exactly but right now there are testing protocols on day 0 and day 4 and a 4 day quarantine upon entry. Just the other day they waived the quarantine with proof of vaccination.

  3. I’m so ready for lake season, I need to get the jet ski in. I’ve had the boat out but not the paddle boards. We need some warm weather to bring the lake temps up to start surfing. I did pick up a wetsuit at the end of last season so I can get an earlier start.1e808cec87add503819d6a249c07aeab.jpg

  4. While I hope to be sailing some in the BVIs I’m prepared to be staying in US waters. St John is my favorite island so that will be great staying there by boat. It just sucks we won’t be sailing much, not like when sailing BVIs. Perhaps the quarantine situation will be resolved but I am not hopeful. We had hoped to spend maybe 3 - 4 in St John and the rest in the BVIs.

  5. How did it sail? We are set up for a 45 footer in the BVI for thanksgiving.

It was good, tacking and jibing was slightly different and we moved the traveler a ton whereas I never touched it once in 3 weeks on a mono while in the BVIs. We had relatively light winds and were sailing downwind/broad reach a ton. I got really comfortable jibing which always spooked me. It will be really great having another co-captain (the friend who came with this past weekend) on the boat in July whereas it was me alone with wife and and 2 kids 4 years ago. I think I feel comfortable for our trip.
  6. We are chartering a 42’ FP Astrea in July. I’ve never sailed a catamaran so I went to Pensacola this past weekend to spend 2 days with a captain practicing. I learned a lot and feel really good about the trip. It had actually been 4 years since I sailed, our last trip in the BVIs just before Irma. I had another buddy new to sailing learning with me on the cat...he did great. I had another buddy come who had never been on a sailboat and we each brought a son. It was a fun time.

  7. So amazing. So crazy awesome. I had no idea how to do this a month ago. Now I’m sailing. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

It’s really addicting. I’m going to Pensacola in a couple of weeks to practice sailing a catamaran in preparation for my sailing trip in the Virgin Islands in July. I’ve only sailed monohulls so I’m excited. We are sailing 2 days. I hope we have weather that cooperates.
  8. Randomly found this topic, reminds me of my first eBay sale. I liked to shop Thrift Shops back before that was uberpopular. I stopped at a shop on Daingerfield Texas in the ‘90s and found David Hasselhoff Knight Rider Musk air fresheners from 1980 and a Mr T A-Team freshener. 3 for a $1. I bought all of them and gave the DH ones out to friends. Fast forward to 5 years later. I listed my first item on eBay, the DH Knight Rider air freshener. It sold for like $9. I had the funniest (in my mind) description. It was pretty exciting as a first sale! I looked for a picture of it online but couldn’t find it.

  9. You're either going to the base to ski, or you're going to town for dinner.  There is no nightlife at the resort.  Not even sure if the resort restaurants are open for dinner - I've never been there at night.

Yep - makes sense. Thanks again for the perspective.
  10. Stay in town. Bus will take you to and from the resort for free. It's very convenient. Tubing is better and cheaper in Fraser than it is at the resort. Better restaurants are in town and at Devils Thumb, 10 min from town.

I have a house in Fraser. Would be happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for the input. With the kids being new and my wife not skiing we thought having a place we could ski in and out of would be really beneficial. Like if wanted to break for lunch or just rest. We found a place in town and at the base and decided on the base, now I think we need to talk about it some more.
  11. We are headed to Winterpark just before Christmas. The wife doesn’t ski, me and the kids will ski, this being their first time. We are debating staying in town where there are more things to do or somewhere near the base. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions or recommended places to stay?

  12. Hell yeah! That’ll be fun! I’d be super stoked in your shoes.  I’m working on my certifications and should be all clear by year end, thinking Bahamas for thanksgiving then  BVI another time. Oddly our top friends are “meh, I get sea sick, but I’ll go to {insert land destination} with y’all.” Ugh.

I noticed in the boat fanatics thread you are working through you certifications. I did the same thing, starting with 101, then 103, 104, 105 and 106 over the course of a year all working to charter my own boat in the BVIs. I did the 106 in the BVIs with an instructor that gave me the confidence to do our trip a couple months later. I rented a 46’ monohull and sailed 10 days with my wife and 2 kids age 10 and 12. It was an amazing trip. A month later Irma destroyed the BVIs. We are sailing a catamaran in July.
  13. St John is a favorite of ours. We’ve rented several villas including this one with my sisters and my parents. https://www.dejaviewvilla.com/ We are chartering a cat out of STT for 10 days late July. We had planned to sail both US and BVI waters but after reading the current state of affairs getting into the BVIs we likely will stay in US waters. Happy to answer any questions you may have.

  14. I watched about 45 minutes of it last night. I used to watch movies on Tv with music playing quite often. There weren't any more apparent match-up moments in this than there were in any of those. It's bullshit. You could probably do the same with Sgt Peppers and gotten similar results, or played DSOTM with Dude Where's My Car.

Great Gig In The Sky during the tornado sequence, then rolling perfectly into Money as the door opens. Also at the very end of the album when the meet the tin man the heart beating fade out as she puts her ear to his chest. There are a lot of scenes that lined up so perfect, with lyrics and a vibe. I think it’s pretty cool.
