I honestly think tenure is very overrated.  It's simply non-monetary compensation.

It saves universities money by reducing faculty turnover.

The big problem with this is it will chill faculty members' speech.  Good luck teaching any classes dealing with American history, sociology, climate science, or really anything in red state controlled by Christian extremists.

I get why he killed some of the folks... the finance bros were dicks, the critic and editor was responsible for restaurant closings, and the nine-fingered man was a philanderer... but what sins did John Leguizamo +1 and the Angela from Who's the Boss commit?

    Spoiler

I thought it was about the people he was personally offended by.  John Leguizamo was in the movie he didn't he like.  The nine-fingered man and Angela ate at his restaurant over ten times and took no real interest in it---neither could remember anything they ate.  Not sure about Leguziamo's plus one?  Maybe because she was stealing from Leguziamo.

Unfortunately this needs to be painful so that the country continues to see the ineptitude and indifference this party has towards legislating.

The majority of the country sees it.  The rest of the country could watch the party gun people down on Fifth Avenue, and they'd believe it was the Dems fault because Fox News told them so.

  4. I’m not in medicine so I’m just guessing from the information that is available, but this seems like the most likely situation to me.

If his heart was restarted and his brain was working normally it seems like things would probably be different. Since he hasn’t been pronounced dead, I’m assuming they got the heart going again. I saw a tweet that they got some promising brain function signals. That’s the type of thing that i think they would say when someone is a vegetable and they are hoping they come back, which my guess becomes increasingly unlikely the longer they are out.

You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

And it’s also the type of thing they would say if someone is sedated.

  6. I'm still calling BS on the 8 hours flying vs 10 hours driving. The math just doesn't work out. Even if you put some crazy remote place where you say 1 hour to the airport, 2 hours of check-in be early (and be a complete airport yokel), 2 hours flying, 3 hours driving post airport, that 2 hour flight still gets you a long damn way. Someone else mentioned Dallas-Atlanta. Austin-St. Louis comes to mind, and those are 12 hour drives non-stop, and each likely needs 2 stops for gas.
The 60 mile/90 minute circle thing also doesn't really work out much either. I would say less than 5% of people in either Atlanta or Houston. You're close enough to a major road that eventually you are on a quick path. Is there traffic? Sure, but nothing that will take you 90 min to get to the airport.
I'm not saying that you won't have a day of travel, but that's a totally different thing that we aren't talking about.
I pretty much fit the common case of a traveler - close enough to an airport (20 minutes for me to Logan). I can navigate my way around physically and socially through an airport. Any reasonable flight to my half of the US (like a direct to Austin - 5 hours): Nice breakfast at my house, half day of travel, land, get settled at my destination. I'm usually eating dinner at a restaurant or with family that I am visiting at a reasonable time too. This trip for me is sub 7 hours.

The math can check out. My brother used to live about a ten hour drive from me. But he was about 60 miles from the nearest airport. And I had to connect to get there. So leave home 2 hours before my first flight. Then a connecting flight at least 4 hours assuming I don’t miss the connection. And then I had to drive another hour after we landed. It’s at least 7-8 hours assuming nothings delayed on either of the 2 puddle jumpers I had to take. And I didn’t have a car when I arrived. Much easier just to drive.

Well the focus groups came back and you can't motivate the R base with things are good.  They only respond to the medulla oblongata fight/flight response of grievance politics.

See previous post.  They think the grievances were actual policies enacted into law but really it was the tone or messaging they like.

    • Those people are bad
    • Those other people are bad
    • I'm the only one that will stand up to the bad people
    • I'm just like you and I hate bad people too
    • Look at what the bad people in congress are doing, they are coming after me for supporting you
    • Don't you want me to be the shield to protect you from the bad people
    • I did nothing wrong, they are only after me because I support you

    Trump's actual policy accomplishments:

    1. Tax cut for rich and tax increase for middle and lower class
    2. Federal funds to build a useless wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for but contracts went to his buddies
    3. Almost split NATO
    4. Appointed 3 Supreme Court Justices
    5. Laid the basis for current inflation with the short sighted stimulus packages that were too large and were another crony grift
    6. Buddied up to dictators
    7. Increased the costs for Americans to buy from China and reduced out exports at the same time

You forgot his primary policy accomplishment.  Cruelty.  He's given everyone who's not a white, Christian, straight man fear for their safety or the safety of their families.

  9. They aren't single issue voters.  They're cult members.  And they rationalize their behavior by pretending to be single issue voters over either taxes or abortion.  Neither of which is true as evidenced by voting for Herschel Walker or the trump "tax cuts" that raised taxes on a lot of the middle class and really only cut taxes for the very wealthy.

Picking a fight with Jews will be the end of Trump, given his already weakened political and legal standing.  They are a far more powerful bloc than any group the shithead has thus far successfully vilified for his grievance wars.

WTF no.  It's been years since trump said there were good people on both sides when one side were Nazis chanting "The Jews will not replace us."  Never mind all the other antisemitic crap that comes out of his mouth, or the antisemitic conspiracy theory Q garbage.  He still has his cult.

Edit to add not crazy about the argument that Jews are somehow a more "powerful bloc" than others.  What the fuck does that even mean?  About 2% of the US population is Jewish.  And they don't vote as one bloc.  He's also gone after basically everyone who's not a white, Christian, straight, male and they support him.  The implications of some Jewish cabal where this is a stone too far for dotard is ridiculous.

It's the new "antifa".... it just means "anything I don't like."

I don't get it, or why the left lets them get away with it.  Not looking for genuine answers but how is being awake, a warrior for social justice, anti-fascist, or signaling virtue ever a bad thing?  These all sound pretty to awesome to me.  And telling that the right thinks these are somehow derogative terms.
