Yeah, I meant to go back and edit that, but I waited too late.  I left out the line that was in my head..."The Big 12 has chosen to have a championship game to determine it's champion, and in the future..."

I know I'm getting old...I think I type the stuff that's in my head, and then I go back and see that I didn't.

I'm simply saying that look at TCU. They won absolutely nothing this year.

But you know why they're doing so well? They won a playoff game.

Years ago we were outraged McCaffrey sat out a bowl game. Why would players, coaches, administrators,  or even fans at a certain point care about an outdated Seeding game?

Well, you're kind of making our point as well and I don't think you realize it.

TCU won a playoff game...that's it.  They brought home no hardware.  Now, if their coaches hadn't gotten stupid, they could've won the Big 12 championship game.  Don't you think they wish they had won that game?  Big 12 Championship trophy in the case, Big 12 champs billboards all over DFW, put it on the stadium, etc.?  Do you think they really wish there hadn't been a Big 12 championship game??  That game didn't prevent them from winning their semi-final playoff game, and it sure as heck had no bearing on them getting their asses whooped by Georgia.

You could make the case that the Big 12 championship game screwed them because they went undefeated...and in the past (SWC), doing that would win you the conference.  But when you get to 12 teams, you have to have a championship game, and there will always need to be one going forward.

Would the BoR be involved in that type of problem? Most AD's have an NCAA compliance person on staff, right?

Well, my comment may have been a bit too flippant for the context.  I'm just saying it could be any number of things related to athletic contracts and legal issues.  Odds are it's probably conference realignment, but when you have a high profile coach like Sanders who may tend to act first and think later, who knows?

Just posting because it shows the Colorado BOR agenda for Monday's meeting. Legal advice could be in regards to any number of things.

Yeah for all we know it could be something involving Deion running off a scholarship player or something.

Quick question that I'm sure has been answered somewhere in the past 500 or so pages.

What exactly is the point of an SEC or Big 10 Conference Championship game in a 12 team playoff era? Unless something catastrophic has happened, all four teams in those games should be already qualified to be in the playoff, regardless of the outcome. Is there any incentive (other than pride) in playing your starters in that game?

If you are going to get rid of crowing a conference champion, then what's the point of even having conferences?  TV slots?

College football regular season intensity is already taking a bit of a hit with the expanded playoff (which I'm fine with, don't misread what I'm saying).  But if you take away the conference championship variable, then you take away even more of the appeal and fervor towards the college football season.  At that point, might as well just start the 64 team bracket in September and turn the entire season into one big tournament bracket.

Conferences matter for more than just TV and revenue.  That championship means something.

no board meets on a monday

    Most normal boards.

I've decided the CU Board of Regents is a different breed of cat.  Like Hurtlocker says, they meet a lot.  Way more than I've ever seen a Board meet.  So either CU has a lot of real estate, legal, and employment issues to discuss that can't wait for the quarterly board meetings, or this Board is much more hands-on than a normal BOR.

I didn't know that you and Longhorn Bob Wheeler had patched things up.  Good for you.

    Longhorn Bob...

Is he still living in a converted school bus somewhere between Austin and Stillwater?  (Wasn't that his last known whereabouts?)

Just curious how many of you Horns contributed to said school bus.

Which puts the Arizona guy in a pickle due to how he has been adamant about april 15 as a significant date.

Yeah, it makes me think he reached out to Dodds to do this story precisely because he now realizes April 15 ain't happening, and he wanted to get out of his pickle as soon as he could.

I'm still traumatized by DB Paul Behrman biting on a pump-fake against tech in Austin that put that season into a tailspin. Everyone in the stands, including me, saw Behrman run forward at that moment, and that was the game.

November 4, 1989, at Memorial Stadium: tech 24, Texas 17

First tech win in Austin since 1967

Anthony Manyweather gets for a 65 yd TD pass from Jamie Gill.

I was there.  I was a junior in high school, and the last time Tech beat UT in Austin my dad was a junior at Tech and had made that roadtrip.

Dodd being a PAC mouthpiece totally letting UA president Robbins take the "What me worry" approach. How do you not follow up with any meaningful questioning of Robbins expression of letting the process continue pretty much indefinitely.

Wait, according to PAC loyalists, Dodd is a Big12 mouthpiece?

Context behind this is likely that our biggest donor met with Billy Donovan to gauge his interest. Moon shot, for sure, but it doesn't hurt you to try. I'm sure they at least contacted Jerome Tang and Randy Bennett among others. McCasland has always seemed most likely, or the ex-Spurs assistant guy who I'm blanking on the name of at the moment.

James Borrego, the former Hornets head coach?

    Meh.

I hope Goodman is wrong (again).  Grant has been a good coach at UNT, but in six years, I would not say he has lit the world on fire (as compared to what Beard did at Arkansas-Little Rock, a comparable position.)  One NCAA appearance and two NIT appearances in six years.  He has a career HC win% of .697 and a current win% at UNT of .667.  His previous HC jobs were at Midwestern St. and Arkansas St.

UNT this year was #1 in scoring defense, but #326 in scoring offense.  I'm sorry, but that just isn't going to cut it (as evidenced by the fact they are in the NIT right now and not the Big Dance).

I feel like Tech is settling with the "safe" hire.

    Big 12 data rights deal:

    https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Morning-Buzz/2023/03/21/big-12-closes-in-on-data-rights-deal.aspx

      Hide contents

The Big 12 Conference is finalizing its first revenue-producing data and statistics partnership, industry sources say. A decision on a data partner is expected in the coming two-to-three weeks and it will require approval by the Big 12’s board. Given the conference’s deep relationship with Endeavor, which has advised the Big 12 on many issues, including its media rights, sources say IMG Arena is the frontrunner for the data rights deal. IMG Arena, which is owned by Endeavor, serves as a data distribution partner for professional leagues like the MLS and the PGA Tour.

A league’s data partner typically manages and distributes official statistics to media and fan sites. It remains to be seen if this Big 12 deal also will include the rights to sell data to sports betting services, but they are believed to be part of these negotiations. Those rights could drive up the financial value of the deal significantly. So far, only two conferences have struck data partnerships -- the Mid-American with Genius Sports and the Pac-12 with Tempus Ex Machina. Those arrangements did not include the ability to sell stats to sports betting services at the time.

I had no idea such a thing existed.

The PAC was screwed when 1) FOX wasn't interested in their inventory (pretty much from the jump), and 2) the B1G swallowed up every linear carrier who might have been able to partially replace FOX as a carrier.

If the benchmark they've set is 50% linear, they're going to have a really hard time meeting the financial benchmark of being within ___% of the Big 12's deal.

The way that everyone on the PAC side continues to kick the can down the road, it's starting to create an impression that they're hoping to save face - after  being raided - by arguing that the PAC didn't lose to the Big 12, it just ran out of time.

    Pacific Coast Aggy?

  15. I find this latest from Wilner absolutely hilarious.  First, he provides ZERO new information, but rather finally admits to what everyone else can see.  Second, he's trying to give himself an out from the many months of his stance that the Pac 12 won't fold, it's better than the Big 12, it will get a great TV deal, yada yada yada.  And to be honest, it still may...but it's just funny to finally see Wilner admit there's a possibility GK fucked this whole thing up.

Can you just show up, pay, and park or do you have to buy a ticket in advance for the shuttle?

I just emailed my corporate overlords, maybe they have some extras.

I just figured out if I play my cards right, I can have this gig for every single PGA tour event plus the Masters.

I’m getting there early but will be leaving early enough to catch the 7pm AA flight to DFW.

You have to buy it digitally ahead of time.  Tickemaster.  It's a damn racket.

Hmm...what you sellin?  Maybe I can be one of your potential clients.  :D

Also, is it advisable to Uber? Can they drop off close?

From what I read, yes.  However, I would imagine it will be a giant pain in the ass to get the return Uber.

Going Friday and Saturday.  I just said "fuck it" and bought the outrageously overpriced parking passes for Barton Creek Mall with the shuttle...mostly because a round-trip Uber from Round Rock and back would exceed that amount, and because of the aforementioned pain to get an Uber at the end of the day.

And as a client of enterprise software, I can assure you that your client probably would rather talk golf than software as well.
