they'll stick together for this contract, the next one will be the bigger one.. everyone will be looking for the best deal.. including schools in the Big12

Depends on what this contract ends up being.  They may not be able to afford to stick together for another 5-6 years if they run the risk of losing exposure.

So he's saying if their deal is 29mil a year they won't move. I think that's been the general consensus from generally everybody ever since the NEW12 got their TV deal. But the general consensus is the PAC10's deal isn't going to be 29mil, so are they bolting if its 27mil? Being 2mil a year behind the Big12 for 6 years in $12,000,000. But being 4mil a year behind the Big12 over a 6 year deal is $24,000,000. Further more, just because they'll stay put for 29mil a year doesn't mean CU will.

And, as we've all said for awhile now, it's not just the money, though.  If that deal has less over-the-air/linear and more streaming than what the Big 12 will have, then you would have to think they bolt even if the money is equal just to ensure their programs have needed exposure.

    Straight up false.

I rooted for UT in the Rose Bowl because the national media was insane with their annointing of USC.  Besides that, fuck Texas...with all due respect.

Same.  I rooted for them in both Rose Bowls more because I was rooting against who they were playing.

Impressive amount of bullshit, but I enjoyed the following quotes:

"In February 2022, ASU Athletic Director Ray Anderson told Arizona Sports' Bickley and Marotta that Desert Financial Arena is in "dire need" of improvements, and he "anticipates ASU will be pivoting to that very quickly." "I don't know what he meant by 'dire,'" Crow said. "You've been there. It's completely functional. It's actually a fine facility and just needs some updates."

Completely functional is quite the endorsement, especially for a stadium that looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70's.

“There have been no discussions with the Big 12 conference on moving," Crow said. "I mean, there's been discussions between everyone everywhere on all things related to where our conference is going and where stuff's going to end up and what's happening. We are committed to the Pac-12."

We haven't talked to the Big 12 about moving, but we've talked to everyone about everything. 🥴

Some verbal gymnastics going on there to be certain.

It's funny because ASU will do whatever the fuck Arizona tells them to

    Utah is Mormon aggy?

    Technically, Utah State.

But as far as where they are on the delusional scale, yeah, UU is most definitely the Mormon Aggy.

Tech has formed a search committee that consists Kirby Hocutt (AD), Dusty Womble (biggest basketball donor, our new practice facility is named after him), Norense Odiase (former player under Tubby Smith and Chris Beard), Joey McGuire.

The Pitino thing is likely a nothingburger and Rothstein's source is almost certainly his agent who's just jockeying for leverage for his client. Pretty common tactic.

Unfortunately, only one of those people know the real ins and outs of college basketball, and even then only as a player.  Don't get me wrong, he's dyed in the wool red and black, and that is a great thing.  I also like having Joey Mc on the search committee because he knows the kind of coach that would fit Tech.

I hope Womble's only role on the committee is to consult on how much he's willing to donate to the salary.  To me, that is the only role for a BMD.

Bold move by that AD.  Him and their commish flapping out there in the wind.  Maybe it works out but I sure as fuck wouldn’t be flapping my gums if I was in their shoes.

Yeah, you would think an AD of a P5 school would know when to keep his mouth shut.

The Big 12's draw will be parity, that most games should be competitive, and rivalries will develop, even if temporarily. I remember the Gundy-Leach matchups had a rivalry feel for a few years there with both teams regularly scoring in the 50's and the win coming down to who could finally make a stop late in the game. I could see that returning, especially since Tech fans have a chip on their shoulder thinking they invented horses, flags, people riding on horses, with flags, the hanging curveball, high fibre, good Scotch, all of which we took from them. Bring it on fake zorros.

    This is the way.

The Guns Up is ours, btw.  There's a reason we call you all Xerox U.  :)

  10. Since Tech is also searching for a new basketball coach, what is it specifically about Rodney Terry that makes you not want him to be your head coach going forward?  Recruiting?  X's and O's?  A little of both?

I've been surprised how uppity Utah fans have seemed online.

Agreed.  I was indifferent to them before, but now I've grown to really dislike them.  Kind of reminds me of how aggy started acting after they got their AAU membership...all of a sudden they've been the equivalent of Harvard since their inception and all that.

Utah to me is one of the must haves for the Big 12 in this because it will provide a legit rivalry that is going to be an instant checkbox for the late night slot every year. Utes vs windowcoug will be something you can schedule mid season and it becomes an instant “yeah it’s late and I’ve probably had a few too many, but is there still a good game on” big ratings draw.

One of the things that drives viewership is going to be is this worth staying up for, and frankly watching teams that loath each other and all of the angst, both on and off the field, helps drive it.

In many ways one of the problems with the current Big 12 post Tex/OU is that there isn’t enough hate/rivalry that comes through on the screen. The Utes/WindowCoug and Ariz/ASU add two more of those to the conference. It isn’t the level of the iconic rivalries that the SEC and B1G looks to have a monopoly on for the most part, but there will be enough to justify a late night slot and an OK audience.

Why midseason rather than end of sesason?

Otherwise, I agree with you wholeheartedly.  This is why I hope Tech-OSU is ensured an every year game...and why I am so upset we aren't playing them in 2023.  It's a natural rivalry.  OSU has stolen nearly all of their traditions from Tech, and we like to point that fact out to them.  :)

Big 12 made a huge mistake not having those two teams play in 2023.
