The All Star race is this weekend at TMS and it is going to royally fuck my drive to work. I'm going to have to detour 15+ miles to miss the forced traffic flow. The worst part is they will have less than half the people projected attending and there will be no traffic problems, but will put everyone through the paces.

Man you really still have such a big a grudge against TMS for not letting you ride your ATV that you go to the NASCAR thread and post this? You think anyone cares about your detour?

Is the NASCAR race coming to COTA later this month...is that a one-off race or did they sign a multi-year deal?  I found conflicting links.

SMI (owners of Texas, Charlotte, Bristol, etc.), not NASCAR, is leasing the track and operating the race. It is a one off for 2021. The yet to be announced 2022 NASCAR schedule is expected to have more changes so the future is unknown.

OK, let's do our part to help the economy by making the entry $50.

    Here are the details:

    1) The pool is at https://www.tournamentpools.com/pools.cfm?poolid=182847&p=2&pwd=p9nrt5. If you're asked for a passcode, it's p9nrt5.

    2) You must pick one team each day (not round) of the tournament (straight-up, not against the spread). If your team wins, you move to the next day. If they lose, you're out. Once you use a team, you cannot use them again the rest of the tournament. So be careful using those high seeds in the early rounds. The only exception to the "one team, one day" rule is for the Elite 8. You can pick both Saturday games or both Sunday games if you want, but you must pick 2 of those 4 games if you're still alive at that point.

    3) The deadline to pick games is 11:00 AM each day for the first two days. For later rounds, I'll set the deadline at the start of the earliest game.

    4) The site has a rule that if a game is canceled, you do not get credit for a win even if the team you picked advances. Because of that, you have the option of making a back-up pick. The back-up pick will only be used if your first pick's game gets canceled.

    5) PM me for payment info. I can take paypal or venmo. Please send me $51 to cover the $1/entry pool fee.

I'm in, PM sent. I assume this is winner take all?

Should be an interesting season.  I hope we start to have practices and qualifying again - made various fantasy games a real challenge last year.

Larson is back, Bubba and MJ pairing up, no more Jimmie or Bowyer, typical shitty driver moves by Joe Gibbs, Harvick and KyBu both having disappointing seasons last year, etc.

If anyone is interested in a weekly "fantasy football" style league (drivers are split into three groups - small top tier, large midgroup, and a huge list of backmarkers/one-off racers; pick a new lineup each week, you can only use a driver 8x throughout the whole season, etc.), please let me know.  I've run this the past few years, and it's usually been a $30 per entry, winner-take-all deal with a small number of participants (I think the most I've had is 5 total?) but it's fun.  Shoot me a PM and/or post here...

Also, if anyone is interested in a different sort of fantasy pool where you have to pick one driver per week and you can't use anyone twice (picks are made on a weekly basis, not all at once at the beginning of the season!), please hit me or @Jim Krivacs up either here in the thread or via PM.  We're thinking of making it $150 per person for the whole season.  It's been $100 per with about 10-12 participants in the past, but we've had a couple of folks drop out this season due to money getting tight during Covid, so we've got fewer people committed to it right now than we usually do.  Last year with 11 participants, I took first and about $650, second got $300, and third took $150.  We're all reaching out to our own personal networks, so if this is something that might interest you (and it's a great way to make NASCAR fun again!) please respond sooner than later.

last chance...currently at 11 teams, $850 to the winner

That is great and all but I like to watch a race and not a parade as F1 seems to be.

Pretty sure NASCAR has more passing (overtaking) and lead changes in one race than F1 has all year.

Not knocking it, just do not understand the allure.

Then I guess this thread isn't for you?

NASCAR has what what I call "fake passing."  if you're on a massive oval going 200 mph with a line of cars behind you, and someone in that line moves out and breaks your draft, and the other line of cars immediately next to you also going 200 mph all of a sudden starts passing you in great numbers, there's nothing interesting to me about that "pass."  It's just a matter of physics.  That doesn't entertain me.

But, I'm not headed over to the NASCAR thread to tell fans of those races that there's no allure to the things they like.

Several of us have explained why we enjoy it.  You don't get it.  That's fine.  Not sure what else you really need to say about your opinion.

I'm 56 years old so y'all probably classify me as old and I will probably get bashed but IDGAF. I went to the Dallas F1 race in 84. I watched F1 from 84 until I lost interest. I was a Piquet fan and my buddy was a Senna fan and when Senna died, that was pretty much it for me. I was a casual NASCAR fan from 82-96 until TMS opened. Season ticket holder ever since.  Became interested again in F1 when COTA was being built. Went to the first two F1 races and have been to 4-5 F1 races total at COTA and watch every race on TV. I go to NHRA, IndyCar, IMSA, WOO, local dirt tracks. That being said, the way y'all reacted to this post was such stereotypical F1 fan response. Steamboat1874 posted "Not knocking it, just do not understand the allure." and immediately it was turned into "But, I'm not headed over to the NASCAR thread to tell fans of those races that there's no allure to the things they like."

    Okay I feel better

Racing Darlington again three days later makes no sense.

It does when you are trying to run a complete 36 race season

I love Vegas, but there's no way I'm going until there's a vaccine. That's not something I'm willing to gamble with. I have a feeling there's more people that think like me than not. It's going to be 2 years or more before it's safe.

  8. I play in the Surly league that Foreskin man mentioned above, y'all join so I can take your money. I let Grit Laps win last year.

Also I run another league (different rules) that is $125 entry...let me know if anyone would like to join. Grit Laps also plays in that league.

Wash was fired before the season ended and then we found out why a little later. Something had to have happened for them to do this and not let him finish out the last handful of games.

    Washington wasn't fired, he quit.
