  1. Seriously, what the fuck are we arguing? I'm absolutely certain that we can find archive video of MJ passing to Steve Kerr in a free throw scenario. It's just smart basketball.

    Genius, this guy is.

You win one internet. Few series outcomes have ever surprised be more. Talent usually wins the day in the playoffs. I'm even a way bigger Al Horford than most, but this has been shocking.

I've actually never met a "GS fan".  I was a Seattle fan but started following GS because KT (Undergrad) and (KD grad) makes it easy for me to follow one team.

Fuck having a serious allegiance for any pro sports team. I laugh at people who blindly support--financially and emotionally--a bad product because they happen to live in or near that city. Why do that to yourself?

The only pro city that I had any real attachment to (not coincidentally the only pro city that I've ever lived near) lost Junior, Randy Johnson, and A-Rod for absolutely nothing; then, they shipped off their beloved basketball team to Oklahoma fucking City.

You have a choice. I choose to watch and root for my favorite player(s) and whomever I think plays that particular sport in the most aesthetically pleasing way. That usually doesn't coincide with winning. I've been a Nash-era Mavs fan and a Bibby and Peja Kings fan. I latched onto Steph and the Warriors long before anyone could have foreseen this level of play, and just got lucky.

So, pretending that the Kawhi situation isn't salvageable (I don't think that's the case, but we'll see), and the Spurs opt to move him:
Kawhi for Kyrie straight up, who says no?
It's never going to happen, but I honestly don't know which side would say no, if any. Probably the Spurs? Kyrie would be the best individual talent they could hope to get--and there's mutual respect between Kyrie and SA--but he's not at Kawhi's level. And I'm not sure how SA would feel about a straight swap of injury-risk stars who need to get paid in a year, without also getting some future assets.
But damn, Boston would be be incredible. They could really max out the positionless basketball concept with a starting lineup of Hayward/Tatum/Kawhi/Brown/Horford. Hayward is underrated as a creator. Keep Rozier and Smart around as traditional PGs to chase around the Stephs of the world. They might not let anyone break 90 all season (hyperbole). And they'd still have cap room and their future assets.

Why would Boston want Kawhi? They have that component and then some.

Because he's better at those components than the guys they have? No, they're not going to trade Kyrie for him, but they're absolutely going to kick the tires this offseason (with Brown and Tatum) and then some. The last time Kawhi played meaningful games, he was a top 5 player; if you can get one of those for a first or 2nd year player and a lottery pick, you do it every time.

...this is all assuming that teams feel confident in Kawhi's long-term health, and that the uncle won't veto Boston, of course.

Is anyone ever going to take a Raptors regular season seriously again?

I was a little shocked how many people took them seriously this year. "They shoot 3's now!...11 deep rotation!"

  8. So for the "LeBron's not making it out of the East this year" crowd, who is the preferred ECF opponent? Hope the Kid Sixers can slay the dragon? Or, in Brad we trust?

    God, the East sucks.

This is the Utah thats a top 5 team without their PG

There's a strong case to be made that they began the playoffs as the 3rd best team in the league, depending on your thoughts about the East, Toronto, Philly, and LeBron. They've been the 2nd best team for practically all of 2018, finishing 27-5 with a stupid good defense. Had they not gotten off to a terrible start, they would have locked up the 3 seed a month ago. Golden State was lucky as shit to avoid them in the first round w/o Steph.

Houston is going to win the series, but Utah is really good and exceptionally coached. Time for D'Antoni to prove his worth making game-to-game adjustments.

klay is the guy they legit don't need if the other 3 are healthy.

I mean, he's the guy that basically has to guard Harden, Russ, Kawhi, and Kyrie, so it's hard to say he's not needed. ...but, sub him out for Khris Middleton, and they probably don't lose much.

That said, his cutting and movement might be the best in the league. He's a perfect fit alongside Steph.

Draymond Green has been the best player in this series and it hasn't been close.

Something tells me that he has every single article predicting AD would have a field day this series plastered to his locker.

    Like he needs extra fuel.

  12. KD is 14-52 from deep so far this postseason. That's cause for some minor concern. Steph being back should help open up those looks, though most of his attempts are of the pull-up variety, not catch-and-shoot.

  13. Gotta commend New Orleans. Every time Golden State tries to pull away with one of their quick mini-runs, they answer. Playing a guy named Chieck Giallo, no less.

If this Toronto team can't beat these Cavs in a playoffs series, blow it up.

Like, at halftime of the deciding game. Don't even bother waiting for the offseason.

The Sixers are 100 times more talented than Milwaukee and a billion times better coached. I just have no idea how Boston scores enough points on them, even if they play amazing defense (which they will) themselves.

    Fucking dumbass.

Seriously, if Boston wins this series, just put Stevens in the Hall now.

  16. Pretty spot-on analysis from Zach Lowe (redundant) about where the Thunder need to go from here. Nothing too terrible scathing on Westbrook; just a couple little things that he could change that would make a world of difference (though, it may be too late, and those habits could already be locked in).

I do like the anecdote from a few years back--when Russ and KD were both hurt--how giddy Roberson and co. were from actually getting to touch the ball and share in the success or failure of the offense. That goes a long ways on any team.

  17. I agree with that assessment. Every year that OKC managed to stay healthy, they were right in the mix. Had KD stayed, last year's title would have been a competitive-as-hell 4 team race between Golden State, Cleveland, OKC, and SA, with Houston nipping on their heels.

But yeah, then it comes back to "why the hell would you choose to spend your entire career in Oklahoma City playing 90's basketball for an organization that cheaps out to avoid paying the luxury tax at every opportunity?" (Until KD left, put the fear of god in them, and they overcorrected their spending to entice Russ to re-sign.)
