  1. Last year, some guy sitting my seats explained that someone was in his seats two rows down, and then shrugged his shoulders. I told him that's not my fucking problem and move. He was younger and had some amount of shame and moved. I thought it was ridiculous at the time and had no idea this stunt is not uncommon. I wish they had spent some remodel money on a way to funnel people straight to the upper deck if that's where their seats are to try to control the hordes in the lower level concourse.
  2. We went in Gate C about an hour before kickoff, and although crowded, we got to our seats fine. Concessions were already light on bottled water, which is ridiculous. Our friends were about 20 minutes behind us, and they got caught in a huge mob of people trying to push through the end zone sections. All of that was bad, and then Dallas' finest decided to start shoving people around, separating a buddy from his 12-year old son and 80-year old dad. It was a potentially dangerous situation. In typical Cotton Bowl fashion, no one did dick to keep people from crowding around the section entrances five deep. A group of prob 20 or so students was watching the game at the top of Section 13 blocking the entrance because their seats were in the sun and they wanted to be in the shade. Come on. Also, I walked right back in after halftime with no ticket people in sight. This shit happens every year, but I'm just amazed it continues. Didn't use escalators, but new restrooms were great before the game.
  3. I attended a neighborhood meeting with our trustee and board president Lynn Boswell. She said the administration staff created the plan and gave it to the trustees 24 hours before it became public, so she and the other board members are digesting it like we are. Not sure I fully believe that, but whatever. She and other trustees are questioning many of the recommendations pertaining to the new boundaries, and it sounds like they are already going back to staff to make changes. However, she had no answers to hard questions about the rubric and the data that are clearly flawed when presented with specific examples of incorrect data and assumptions staff made. She just kept saying they were good questions and she'll have to look at the data that she says she doesn't have access to (although it's all there on the AISD website). She also had no answer to questions about whether school closures would actually save any money, or how the closures will fend off a state takeover. Several comments about how the state keeps moving the goalposts on the grading criteria but no real answers. She has her talking points down pat, as I suspect all the trustees do, but the substance is lacking. I don't expect the proposal w/r/t the closures will change. They are getting called out for forming the list despite the data, but it's not going to change their plan. Oh, and if anyone is counting, four of the 11 failing schools survived the closure list. She outright said that they need higher performing kids to go to their zoned crappy school to raise that school's grade to passing. That's the big plan. Can't wait for Matias to start making his in-person rounds. That will be a shit show.
  4. And in the context of BW vs. Casis, I'm sure you did hear that. But the choice between Casis and driving across town to Mathews that has over 50% transfers, and thus a weak tie to its own neighborhood, I think the answer is much different.
  5. Absolutely wrong. The reason BW isn't rezoned to Casis is because the Pemberton parents cut a deal with Lynn Boswell for them to stay at Casis. Spare me the "cultural" fit. That's horse shit. Edit to add: BW kids and families are friends with Casis kids and families through all kinds of activities. We all know each other and the parent culture.
  6. No disagreement here. I'd just appreciate a little more honesty about the decision instead of reverse engineering a cover story.
  7. Per AISD's Student Forecast Report for 2024-25, the percentage of students enrolled who live within the school boundaries: Bryker Woods: 67% Casis: 62% Mathews: 44% So sure, there are many transfers at Bryker Woods, but not at the clip represented above. But here's the game AISD played: For purposes of school closures, they calculated capacity without the portables. So that penalizes a school with a healthy enrollment. If portables are such a bad thing, then remove them and close the school to transfers. The rubric was clearly designed to justify a predetermined outcome. Oh, but the building is falling apart. Okay, then why earmark $6.2M from the 2022 bond package for capital improvements to the school? They still have the billboard planted in front of the school outlining what the money is for. Was it to bait the neighborhood to support it -- which it did by over 84%? AISD just eroded all support for future bond packages from a high voter turnout neighborhood. Great strategy. And adding insult to injury, the Bryker Woods kids are getting shipped through Pemberton down to Mathews because Lynn Boswell cut a deal with the Pemberton moms who successfully lobbied to stay zoned to Casis.
  8. Agree. She's more interested in virtue signaling than taking care of the people she said she would represent.
  9. Bingo. I wish someone would say why. Spoiler: gotta have a sacrificial lamb in West Austin. (Trustee Lynn Boswell effectively said so to the neighborhood association.) And two of those three maps linked above carve Bryker Woods out of Austin High to go to McCallum. So thanks, AISD. You really put the screws to little ol' neighborhood for whatever reason. Edit: And yes, selling that property would generate a nice chunk of one-time cash. They are stupid enough to do it.
  10. That's because Bryker Woods will be on the closure list -- even though it's full, high-performing, and IB credentialed. Oh, and it sits smack in the middle of a shit ton of upzoning the City has done to increase density along 35th/38th street. But as noted in the other thread, the list isn't about facts or reason. And the superintendent is a straight up liar about their "process." This will be purely political. The rumor we've heard is that Pemberton will get to stay at Casis, and AISD will ship BW students south through Pemberton and Old Enfield to Mathews. As pissed as your neighbor will be about getting rezoned to Mathews, I promise it pales in comparison to my neighbors' rage about their school closing and then not rezoned to the closer elementary school with the capacity to absorb the Bryker Woods kids. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
  11. The rubric is bullshit. For example, they are penalizing schools for being overcrowded but calculating the overall capacity of the school by excluding portable buildings. Contrast that with the district’s Enrollment Forecast Report from last year that uses actual capacity (including the portables) which renders a totally different enrollment percentage. The difference is one calculation was generated as a tool to close schools, and the other was not. And regardless, whose fucking fault is it that a school is overcrowded? The district has the ability to modify boundaries or close a campus to transfers. But okay sure. Close a full school but leave a half full and failing one open. Makes total sense.
  12. Demonstrate poor judgment and avoid accountability seem to be safe bets.
  13. Sorry. Long day
  14. Not sure if serious, but here you go: 4 parts mayo (use Dukes) 2 parts Gulden's spicy brown mustard 1 part teriyaki sauce. Scale to however much you want to make. I usually do 1/2 c. for the mayo part. Found it years ago from some guy on Hornfans who used to work there.
  15. I've said on multiple threads and probably this one, and I'll say it again: Do not underestimate how much women (particularly white women) hate other women.

  17. Was that back when you could still smoke in the bar? I was amused that the bar was like a smoke-filled fishbowl from the outside. And yes, it was (prob still is) disgusting.
  18. I assumed he was annoyed that the whiter looking guy lost.
  19. Sir, we're going to need some $1M consultants first, so hold your horses on that 18-month time line.
  20. For sure. My favorite, Mookie Blues, are from the Damariscotta River.
  21. You could try using greek yogurt with your muesli to up the morning protein. If you're a coffee drinker, get a frother and mix in some of your protein powder. I also keep some David protein bars at my desk when all I have time for midday is a handful of nuts or whatever else I can find. I'm not a fan of substituting those bars for real food regularly, but they add 28g of protein for only 150 calories, so for me they're perfect in a pinch. The Aloha bars have less protein but decent fiber, so I like those too. Absolutely this. Peter Attia talks about getting 50g of fiber/day, which is a lot. And anyone upping their fiber should do so slowly to avoid a blowout.
  22. I've never been big on breakfast, but I get 20g in a morning smoothie, then mix in another 20g in my coffee with a little almond milk instead of creamer, for 40g in the morning. I find that with that base, I can get the other 80-100g pretty easily throughout the rest of the day. The biggest key for me is to be mindful of excess calories and focus on lower calorie protein-dense foods. Once that clicked and I stuck with it, I looked and felt leaner instead of like I was adding bulk. Word to the wise: when you increase your protein, make sure you get enough fiber to keep things moving.
  23. Well, we've heard about the Democrats' deep bench, so implement an age limit for DNC money. You're an elected official over age 65 who thinks you're fit to run again? Fine, but no party money for you. Oh, and count on a primary challenger who will campaign ruthlessly about your old ass standing in the way of real progress. The Democrats need to be the party of tomorrow.

  25. Um... From Quorum Report: During Texas trip President Trump reportedly discussed appointing Paxton as US Attorney General to shakeup GOP Senate primary Under increased MAGA pressure to dismiss AG Bondi over Epstein files, a potential plan could come together to make Paxton AG, changing dynamics in Texas Senate race From the item in Mediaite by Sarah Rumpf: It’s well known that “John Cornyn refuses to let a scumbag like Ken Paxton sit in Sam Houston’s Senate seat,” the source said, but Paxton wasn’t content to just remain as the Texas AG. So how to get Paxton out of the way? The solution, according to the source, was for Trump to get rid of Bondi, Paxton to drop out of the Senate race, Trump to nominate Paxton for AG, Cornyn to announce he was retiring, and Hunt to announce he was running for Senate — in a now-open seat, not challenging an incumbent.
