Well, except Leckie never attended college, and Sledge had only done a year at a juco military academy.  Sledge wound up with a PhD.  Leckie never received a degree, which is kind of interesting because he spent his life as a journalist and writer.  But that's the way it was back then.

It wasn't the character, it was the actor.  He's just a smarmy unlikeable guy, imo

Yeah true but the dumber piece of writing was Furio and Carmelas stupid fucking romance plot

Good point.  They could have developed Furio's character many interesting ways the last two seasons.  My issue with Season 6 is that so many of the interesting characters are gone.  I mean Bobby B. as a main character and underboss?  Guy was milktoast.

I think Bielma is a damn good fit for them. Illinois actually should be a decent job, their state is not totally barren of talent and it’s a good school. I know next to nothing of what kind of resources they give the program but the Lovie Smith hire seems to indicate they want to win.  No reason they can’t be a Wisconsin type B1G also ran.

They should be going to low level bowls at least every year, and a big one once a decade or something.  Grew up in Illinois.  Never understood with the wealthy alumni and Chicago how the program could be so consistently poor.

God damn this fucking show. 2 of my favorite little back stories is agent Harris’ arc then Sal Vitro towards the end.

“Hey Ton....I was thinking since Johnny is gone, I can stop doing the Sacks lawn”

”Yeah? You’re a selfish prick, ya know that, Sal?”

Just went back and watched that clip.  While Sal is taking Tony takes his newspaper out of the protective plastic bag and casually hands the trash to Sal to take care of.  That poor bastard.

  5. First time around watching this series, I really didn't get Junior's character.  Couldn't understand half of what he said and didn't get his relationship with Tony.  Second time around watching this and he's my favorite character.  Guy is fucking awesome.

whenever y’all wanna grow up and act like adults I’ll be here waiting.  I had the correct sources and the correct information for weeks and y’all doubted me, called me names, and tried to run me off.  good thing I care about truth and honor more than your baseless and cruel attacks.

again, whenever y’all would like to apologize to me and thank me for being the most informed poster on surly, let me know.  I am not here to gloat about being the only poster on this whole goddamn website who had it right from the beginning.  don’t. ever. forget it.

Curious, cause I honestly don't know.  Was your position from the start that he would never coach here because health?  That other cat who was so adamant that he would never coach here said it was because the University would never lower itself to hire a coach with his baggage.  That was obviously garbage.

But we haven’t seen them help their own partner. That’s against the rules. But shit like Hung hanging around to give DeAngelo the jumbled sauerkraut is fine. If she’d had told Gary and took off and Gary told D, that would be against the rules.

That Saurkraut deal was the worst.  It would have been good tv watching all those teams try to figure it out on their own.  I'd imagine they'd all be there for hours.  That was a hard puzzle, random letters flashing on and off, a German word, and trying to figure while being let down the side of a building on a rope.

They were filming a new season though that got interrupted by covid.  Who knows if they'll pick it back up again.

I read it only takes them 21 days to film a season.  I know the ratings are low, but production costs have to be a fraction of produced comedies and dramas.

Have we ever seen it to this extent?  I can't remember one.  In the past, they would do small things to help a team out, but I've never seen a season where multiple teams continuously do things that are detrimental to their chances of winning the leg or eliminating a strong team.  They did a great job of it, but to what end?

Will ruin the show if they don't fix it moving forward, imo

I think it was actually Sylvio who was giving him shit about his lack of  commitment and Paulie started wondering if Tony might wack him.

You're right.  Also, I had forgotten it all occurred when Paulie was being played for a fool by Johnny (bolded).  Such a good fucking show.

Paulie has an angry confrontation with Silvio, who tells him his earnings are low and Tony is beginning to doubt his loyalty. He runs into Carmine and greets him effusively; he is shocked as he realizes that Carmine has no idea who he is. He learns that his mother's friend Minn keeps all her savings under her mattress. He breaks into her house thinking she is out, but she stumbles upon him in her bedroom and he suffocates her with a pillow. He goes to Tony, greets him effusively, and gives him a large envelope of cash. They smile at each other, on good terms again.

This great scene subtly shows the malevolence of Tony and the effect of it.  Been a long time since I watched it, but iirc Tony was giving Paulie major grief about not kicking up enough upstairs.  In desperation cause he's striking out everywhere, Paulie robs and ends up murking his mom's bf.  There's a brief scene of Paulie giving Tony a big envelope and a quick pleased look by Tony, with no idea nor care how Paulie got it.

I remember reading his biography soon after his death.  Super funny, pretty damn good football player, and a cocaine habit like a bleached blonde with double DD's, and a sugar daddy.

Same here, been so long ago I don't remember a lot, but I do seem to recall that one of the reasons it was so hard for him to stay clean was people's expectations of him to be that wild and crazy guy all the time.  I can't imagine how funny this dude must have been at parties when he was flying high.

I'm sitting here wondering why their HS age son can't figure it the fuck out to get home on his own.

He's a freshman, and it's a ten mile hike with no public transportation from San Juan Capistrano to San Clemente.  Believe me, as soon as he turns 16 he's getting my piece of shit car and driving himself back and forth

  14. Son's high school is a ten mile drive.  My wife normally works Wednesdays but took day off today, and she was to pick him up.  She was gone all day, and I assumed she was helping (hanging out) at my daughter's grade school as she likes to do on her days off.  I get a text at 2:05 pm, "what time is Nate's pick up today?".  Now, his pickup has been the same all school year, four days a week 4:30, but on Wednesdays 2:30.  I text her back with the pick up time and ask where she's been all day.  Turns out the clinic literally next door to my son's school asked her to help out today.  I text back, "Oh, that's convenient, you're right there already."

So, what do I hear five minutes later?  The garage door opening.  "WTH, why did you come home, he's off school in ten minutes?!"  Oh, I thought it was 4:30, didn't read your response until I got home.

Nope. Not going to shut up.

Welcome to the  fun that Urban Meyer will bring to UT football. You can't have one without the other. And if you can't take this level of heat from one of the alumni, you are way to delicate of a flower to handle the mountain of shit that will be dumped on the UT Austin campus when "your savior" arrives.

The first few gusts of odious stench from "Hurricane Urban" start wafting through campus and you are already having fits trying to handle it.

Good luck with the recruiting under "St. Urban the Innocent" when even the alumni are telling recruits to stay the Hell away from UT football. And kid who agrees to play for Urban should immediately be ridiculed as being a scumbag. Decent people see what Urban Meyer is about.

Not as easy being a scumbag program as you thought it was going to be, is it?
