I really loved that car but ended up selling it when I had a chance to get into a C2 - my current '64 Corvette.

  3. Nope. Spec's, Twin, Total Wine, and multiple local spots are all out of Buffalo Trace when I've gone. Maybe I've just been having the worst luck. They have the section marked off but its just empty. I grabbed a bottle of 1792 on recommendation most recently, but I haven't opened it yet. Been drinking rye.

    Which 1792?
Only one I’ve liked has been the full proof.
  4. I've been hearing a rumor that Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are gonna go wholesale only in Texas, which will make it even harder to find in liquor stores. Sort of explains why it's been sold out at every liquor store I've gone to looking for it in the last 4 months. I fucking hate when bars and restaurants buy up all the good shit and leave the retail market stuck with Jack and Jim swill. Soon I'll be forced to pay $10 for a pour of Buffalo Trace because they'll be calling it top-shelf since you cant find it in liquor stores anymore.

That same rumor seems to go around every year. Heard it last year.

I picked up some of the non-special release single barrel bourbons on here after reading through this thread. I'm pretty much a noob other than a strong familiarity with Blanton's and Woodford Reserve. Figured I would use the expertise here to try to find good quality bourbons without going for the ultra rare releases and/or paying top dollar.

Everything poured neat or with an ice cube.

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel - My favorite so far of the four. I think I've had the Russell's Rye before as well and I remember enjoying that one.

Four Roses Single Barrel - Really good and punches higher than its price class.

McKenna - Compared to the previous two the taste was a little flat, like there wasn't as much going on. Wasn't a huge fan.

Larceny - This seems really good for the $24 or whatever I paid for it at Total Wine. I tasted a little smoke and peat in this like hints of scotch.

All in all, good recommendations everybody. I will continue to observe and use the recommendations from this thread.

    Try Old Forester 1920.

  6. Thanks guys re: lot B. Just making sure I’m not missing anything.

Enjoying some OWA right now. Thinking about making some poor man’s pappy with W12 but man I really like OWA.

I love the OWA and the W12 by themselves, but PMP made with them is great stuff.
I’ve done several batches the last year and the best one was one I let sit in my small barrel for about 3 weeks.
  7. My wife asked me the other day what I have spent on Bourbon the last year and I got curious...worked out an excel spreadsheet and I've got 29 different Bourbons for a total of 54 bottles I've bought over the last year.   Total of $2400.   Told my wife $500.
