One of the pearls of wisdom I took from dirt track racing was from the experienced drivers who said, after clusterfuck yellow flag racing, was this:

To Finish First First You Must Finish

For sure, but the chances of even getting points from the sprint were tiny compared to the risk of damaging the car with qualifying coming up soon after imho. But it worked out.

I just saw that KMag's wild drive today got him 3 penalty points - the same Alonso got for a bump in China. You can't make this shit up.

At Monaco last year we got a couple of Biers and a sandwich and it was normal.

Yeah and many others from what I've heard are very reasonable as well. I know Montreal is, and have heard Mexico City, Monaco, and Melbourne are as well. Something about those 'M" races. The American GPs seem to to be the big outliers afaik in terms of not only food prices but ticket prices and parking. Go to any other racing series in the US at other tracks, and prices are more than reasonable.

Vince kinda ruined going to games for me.

I got to see him beat Michigan and then win the Natty the very next year.  Two amazing trips to Pasadena in back-to-back years.  How do you top that?  My football watching life peaked when I was 21 years old.

Nice to hear Martin jump in to defend Hamilton before looking at the replay.

    That was bad.

Three cars take out Norris in the first turn.

No penalties for anyone, notably Stroll The Destroyer and Hamilton

Yeah Alonso bumps Carlos in the China Sprint: 10s and 3 penalty points.  Stroll and Lewis take out Fernando and Lando: no investigation necessary.

Seems legit. The L1T1 excuse is bullshit. That used to be resrerved for when it was just a big mass of cars crowding in and there was no clear culprit. When someone made an obviously bad move, they'd still get a penalty. Now they just won't penalize almost any kind of move on L1T1, regardless of how clearly a driver fucks up.

And I dunno why Aston Martin even sent Alonso back out there to ride around at the back, with Qualifying and the race coming up.

  5. Seems like Eddie was shootin' straight ...

Adrian Newey insists he currently has "no plan" to join one of Red Bull's Formula 1 rivals, admitting he needs "a bit of a break".

"Formula 1 is all-consuming and I've been at it for a long time now," Newey told Sky Sports F1.

"2021 was a really busy year because of the tight battle with Mercedes through the championship, and at the same time putting all the research and development into the RB18 which is the father of this generation of cars.

"I don't know, there comes a point where I just felt, as Forrest Gump said, 'I'm feeling a little bit tired'."

When asked how long he had been thinking about his decision, he said: "A little while now, if I am honest.

"I guess over the winter a little bit and then as events have unfolded this year, I thought... I am in the very lucky position where I don't need to work to live.

"I work because I enjoy it and it felt now is a good time to step back, take a little bit of a break and take stock of life.

"Mandy, my wife, and the dogs, we'll probably go travelling. Get a motorhome or something and go down through France and just enjoy life.

"Then maybe at some point, I don't know when, I'll be standing in the shower and saying right, this is going to be the next adventure. Right now there is no plan."

Lewis Hamilton, who will join Ferrari from Mercedes in 2025, said Newey would be at the very top of the list of people he would want to work with in F1.

"Honestly, it is very kind of Lewis to say that and I am very flattered," Newey responded when Hamilton's comments were put to him.

"But at the moment it is just time to take a little bit of a break and see what happens next."

Every time they smash into one another, I just can't help but think of the hundreds of thousands of dollars coming out of private pockets.  They can afford it, I guess, but nevertheless it causes me great pain and consternation on their behalf.

Yeah the guys out at Cotton Bowl and Heart of Texas care more about their cars than those dudes do. It's crazy.

The Ferrari Challenge has been around since the 90s.

All Ferrari race, not the prototypes or anything, just actual Ferraris. Lots of owner-drivers, etc. was originally created to give Ferrari owners a chance to race their cars.

Lamborghini and Porsche have their own similar series. They all fall under the IMSA banner.

Yeah, you wanna see a whole bunch of torn up Ferraris - go to a Ferrari Challenge weekend. Pure carnage.

    Ferrari or Andretti? Yes please.

Otherwise-- the man deserves some peace, let him retire! :)

If he has to go to a team, then it's Aston Martin or Andretti for me. I'd love to see a free-for-all in his absence, though. And the way Eddie was talking, that might happen ....

Because hockey has a lot of stupid fucking rules.

Yeah that was clearly intentonal, bloodying and possibly even breaking Seguin's nose. The TV ref guy said it looked like an elbow at first but he actually only ended up hitting him with his arm. So fucking what? The intent was for it to be an elbow, and he still gave him a cheap shot that put blood on the ice. And out of all that, the maximum penalty they can give is 2 minutes? What in the actual fuck.

  10. Do those guys need a dominant car to win? I'd rather Newey retire, so we can maybe see them and others battling it out without a dominant car on the grid.

Or just, you know, sign with Andretti to help them get in and get going...

Andretti told NBC News he would be interested in hiring Newey.

"That's a simple question: 100% yes," he said with a smile

  11. Oh, and in other news ...

Remember Mario saying 'If they want blood, well, I’m ready'?  This is exactly the kind of thing I figured was coming next.

A bipartisan group of House reps taking an interest, calling out FOM for anti-trust / cartel-like behaviour.

    Good job Horner and Marko

If I had to guess at who's really the problem there, I'd have to say it's Marko. Apparently Newey has thanked Horner and said he is his friend, and Horner has done the same toward Newey ... but nobody's mentioning Marko.

  13. When I posted about Eddie Jordan's comments above, I didn't know at the time that he's Newey's got damn manager.

This is what Newey's manager says about his possible next move

Adrian Newey has been frequently linked with a move to Ferrari or Aston Martin since his departure from Red Bull Racing was leaked this week. Both teams would love to see the engineer come to further boost their world title aspirations. Eddie Jordan - Newey's manager - would not be surprised if the top designer turns down offers from Formula 1.

"He's been at Red Bull under constant pressure. So if he's going to take time out and just cruise for a while, then everyone would understand that. I think that's probably more likely to see, rather than diving into any other possible employment career. Things have slightly changed. He's got a bit older and the various other things," he says of 65-year-old Newey in the podcast Formula For Success.

The top British designer has been with Red Bull Racing for almost two decades. "This is a great team. He's had great drivers there and got great personnel there. He probably should and would look to the future about a change of life," said the 76-year-old flamboyant Irishman. Jordan also had a role in the "divorce" between Newey and Red Bull. Indeed, Newey thanked him in Wednesday's press release.

When someone good in F1 leaves their team, the announcement is almost always what team they are moving to not simply that they are leaving.  He can name his new team, so it's a little odd he hasn't picked one already if he's planning on staying in F1.

Eddie Jordan was talking on a UK sports talk radio show and said that Newey hasn't made a decision yet and will probably just take a rest before making up his mind. He said everything is speculation at the moment. Tom Clarkson seems to think Aston Martin has the inside track and that's why they were in a hurry to sign Alonso and announce his extension. Who knows ...

Yeah I like both of them just fine, but IMO their best work is long behind them.  If I weren't already going to be there for the entire weekend because of... you know... the actual race... then I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to get tickets just for these musical acts.

Yep. It's a car race. They're good, or at least Eminem is, but this isn't the blockbuster lineup he was trying to pump it up as.
