  1. Can I just interject something - I think this is the appropriate thread.

Fuck the Dems for trying to pass what is mostly uniformly accepted to be a bulky, kinda shitty, temporary bill when they have to get every goddamn Dem on board to pass the albatross. They knew the condition of the 50-50 craft when they tried to pass them so FUCK them for even being pissy about it.

The bill should have been a lean bill about a) climate change that a few Republicans would have liked even if they didn't have the guts to vote for it and b) provided one prong of the child care benefits in the bill - extended child care tax credits. In other words, a bunch of the bullet points should have been crossed out:

The bill should have been so tight and clean that even if it wasn't passed the Dems could use it as a hammer against Republicans because most Americans would know exactly and clearly how the Republicans fucked up.

The Affordable Care Act passed the Senate 60-39 along party lines on December 24, 2009, and passed the House 219-212 on March 21, 2010. Thirty-four House Democrats voted in opposition.

  2. The Wanderers (1979)

It's a mess like lots of coming of age flicks, but it's knocking on the door of greatness.  For some reason, doesn't have the resonance with me that Diner and American Graffiti have, but fuck if you haven't seen this you should.  Weird juxtapositions of tone and humor -- you can sense some of the humor that would come years later in Kaufman's "The Right Stuff.  Interesting history, and how the movie "The Warriors" hurt this one at the box office.

  3. I thought the Saturday tasting menu production at Petra and the Beast was great.  That being said, I'm thinking the best way to check out the place if you haven't been is to BYOB on non-Saturday a la carte days - grab a charcuterie board and whatever strikes your fancy on the menu.

Which is not to say you would go wrong with the Sat. tasting menu for a solid date nite or special occasion.

I'd also recommend it to anyone who just wants to get in better touch with their eating habits.  Six courses + a snack is not lots of food, and there were times when I just wanted a piece of bread to sop up some of the sauce, and unconsciously fill my belly.  I intentionally went for a long swim before hand to get myself good and hungry, and my little one (it was a birthday gift) and I looked at each other during the 4th course and said -- this is interesting -- I'm not hungry but I'm not full.   It made lots of sense because you really do concentrate on each serving.

By the last course, however, I felt satisfied and not hungry, although I didn't have the bloated feel I sometimes get at places with big portions and lots of fillers.

The stuff is all very "surprising" -- what the hell is that flavor with some really cool textures - which is what you would expect given the reviews of this place and the price point.

  4. The Artist's Way.  So I could get motivated to get on the typer and write some doggerel.

It was kind of a repetitive beating but that's kind of the point.  Being creative is a repetitive beating for the most part.

    Man, opposite take for me.

What'd I miss?  It never remotely hooked me.  Was disinterested in Nic Cage (who I've always liked) and with that as the backdrop, never got interested in any of the other assholes in this movie.  I guess I liked the pig.
