I have no idea about this Arkansas team. Pittman seems to have made good coordinator hires. But I do know that Chad Morris results from two years ago don’t matter, and how they looked for 3 quarters vs. a team they had little interest in beating (Rice) also means fuck all in college football.

Exactly. No idea why people think seasons from 2+ years ago mean anything when rosters are so different from year to year under a different coaching staff. It's not really Arkansas' fault that the SEC decided to replace easy wins on the schedule last year with two top 10 teams like Florida and Georgia to make the record look worse than it should have been. We ended up in the same bowl game as TCU. We weren't the worst team in the SEC last year like some keep spouting and I'd argue we would have ended up with the same (or better) record as Ole Miss if we had their schedule, who was getting top 25 love all preseason for some reason when we beat them last year.

That logic only works for Arkansas apparently. Oh and their fans aren’t arrogant at all, they wouldn’t dare take the time to sign up for another teams message board to be super cool and talk a massive amount of shit. Only horn fans do dumb shit like that.

I mean most of us were just defending our team lol. We weren’t the ones making 42-7 score predictions.

Alabama was the only team to beat us by that margin last year. If last year had been a normal schedule, we would have had a chance at 7-6 after the bowl game. That’s not outstanding or anything but people keep acting like this is a 2-10 Chad Morris team when logically you’d expect a team to improve in a coach’s second year.

I've become numb to losing the last decade. HOWEVER, I absolutely loathe losing to a bottom feeding team with a fan base full of cocksuckers like Arkansas. Know what's really sad? The aggy have beaten these bottom feeders 9 games running. Arkansas is the KU of the SEC, they went two years without a single conference victory losing to teams like San Jose St, Colorado St and North Texas. All gas and no brakes my ass, I want to slap the taste out of any cuck that was spouting that nonsense all off season from a fucking fraud of a coach hired with a 46-35 career head coaching record.

I just don’t understand why people reference games from 2018 like 3 years isn’t an eternity in college football. This is an entirely new and different roster and coaching staff. Arkansas obviously wasn’t going to stay Chad Morris bad forever.

Correct me I'm wrong. The last time that goal posts were torn down at Fayetteville was when #1 Texas was beaten. This means more than just a game for Hog fans.

So...  Do how much do we know about the offense Briles is running at Arkansaw?  Is it the same they ran at Baylor and UH? (I assume so). Has Ark executed that offense?

Against Rice there were more traditional option plays than what we saw last year since Jefferson is a better runner than Franks was. But other than that it’s pretty similar to his past offenses: simple route tree, easy reads and lots of misdirection.

Not sure how much Briles hid against Rice, I was surprised there weren’t hardly any deep balls when Jefferson is a better deep ball thrower than he is on the short and intermediate routes. We also didn’t see any RB screens when they worked pretty well last season.

Is that the game where Orakpo mashed their QBs into a fine powder and snorted it on the 50 yard line off of Bobby Petrino's desicated corpse?

All I remember from that game is a true freshman Tyler Wilson getting concussed multiple times way before he was ready for college football, then missing the rest of the season with "mono" and eventually getting that season of eligibility back.

Dude started his college career with that and ended it with John L. Smith 😂

Saturday will be two weeks but it is pretty soon. Might just have him in on obvious running downs.

Drive into the parking lot by Baum-Walker field - while you're there, check out that state-of-the-art facility, with it's brand spanking new Baseball Development Center - no one else in the country has anything close to it...it's so new they are just moving into it, so have not yet released a post-opening walk-through video.  But this animated fly-through will give you an idea).

Those lots are about a mile - probably a little less - South of the Football Stadium, so you ought to be able to get into them relatively easy unless you pull up 30 minutes before the game.  From there, you can catch shuttle busses to and 9after the game) from the stadium, if you don't want to walk.

It’s exactly 1.4 miles haha - just walked it last weekend. You will need a mask if you plan to ride the shuttle though, fair warning.

Dorian Gerald with 0 tackles and 1 QB hurry? That guy is the highest graded run stopper?

He did a good job at setting the edge against Rice and letting others clean up running plays. But the thing is this is about his 3rd season ending injury - he usually plays the first couple of games each season and then goes down for the year. Terrible luck.

As you can see, there is not a ton of parking around the stadium. Anyone going to the game should be prepared to hike to get to the stadium. Also, Arkansas drivers are not as bad as Oklahoma drivers but they are close so look both ways crossing the street. And, lastly, when you go into a bar on Dickson get the free wristband that allows you to walk to the next bar with a drink in your hand. Without one of those you're looking at a PI and if Baker can't outrun the Fayetteville police I doubt many of you old heads can.

    Screenshot_20210908-185901.png

If you get there early enough you can park across from Baum Stadium for free and take the shuttle to the football stadium as well. It fills up quickly though.

They’ve got this new festival outside the stadium now called Hogtown on game days that has various food trucks and a huge TV playing other games with live music, etc. Something to pass the time with when waiting for the game before entering.

I haven't tried Herman's or Hugo's yet but JJ's is always solid and I wasn't a fan of the Catfish Hole. If Catfish is going to be in the name it should at least be good. I thought Flying Fish in Bentonville was better catfish. I'll have to try The Rail sometime. You're the third or fourth person that has mentioned their wings.

Yeah I think a lot of Catfish Hole people just go there for the atmosphere and since it’s where the coach’s show/recruiting visits are held. It’s a staple but there are better places now unlike there were 20 years ago.

  12. 19 minutes ago, ElChupacabra said:

There's uh....not much. Pretty decent wings at Foghorn's. Take a short drive up to Rogers and you have Longhorn Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris, a bunch of chain taco joints like Fuzzy's, Tacos 4 Life, Torchy's, Chuy's, etc.

I gotta hand it to Oklahoma. At least they have decent food there. When we first moved to Arkansas we tried all the local recommendations and were thoroughly disappointed. Especially Doe's Eat Place in Bentonville. That is supposed to be the good steakhouse in town. It's not. Unless you like your ribeye overcooked and sinewy

I would probably go to Herman’s, Hugo’s, Hammontrees, JJ’’s or The Catfish Hole (catfish is meh but hushpuppies are good) before a lot of the chains. Haven’t been to a lot of the others people like but I do prefer downtown Bentonville restaurants to Fayetteville as a whole. The Rail in Rogers has by far the best wings IMO. I’ve heard the Doe’s in Fayetteville is better but haven’t been to either.

I don’t expect Texas fans to go to Herman’s out of spite but threw it out there anyway.

They’re somewhere between like fifth and ninth best depending on how the year shakes out. Sixth to eighth being kind of the midpoint there.

OU, ISU, TCU, and OSU will all be better, that’s pretty uncontroversial.

KSU will probably be better but they run that QB so much he might be hurt by the last week of the year. I don’t see much reason to believe Arkansas is any better than ULL. Let’s go 50/50 with the last two and call that five better teams, getting us to sixth. They’re definitely going to at least be in the same tier as KSU/ULL, along with Tech and West Virginia. So depending on how each of these teams progress anywhere from fifth to ninth is possible, probably at least sixth. They’ll need three conference wins again to get to a bowl and Tennessee ain’t walking through the door - Georgia is. A birth game is hardly a foregone conclusion.

They’re better than Baylor, Kansas, and Rice (though maybe not that much better than the latter lol).

ISU and OSU really struggled in their first games too, that's why it's so hard to extrapolate one game into the whole season lol.

Really wish our bowl against TCU wasn't canceled last season it would have been a good barometer.

I'm pretty sure the family that owns it is actually from Texas, too. But, then again, so is Lincoln Riley and we've all seen his skills on the que.

Their burnt ends and collard greens are really good. They actually have a concession stand at the stadium this year but it wasn't nearly as good as the restaurant.

Also, might want to compare Arky and TCU stats when it comes to winning percentage, bowl records, last conference title, pretty much every statistic that measures the success of a program.

I know you're from Arkansas and can't read very well so I'll give you a quick breakdown:

TCU beats out pork aggy in just about every single metric.

You're welcome. Now run along and get back in line at the chicken plant, kid.

I would hope so considering they were in a G5 conference for 15 years

The funniest thing about you piglet fans is you've been perfectly okay with being your conference's doormat. Hell, Misery even had a more successful season since joining the SEC than arky has had. The reason "Texas is back" is even a thing is because Texas was at the top of CFB and lost their way. Piglet hasn't been at the top of ANYTHING in a long, long time.

    Name your last conference title.

Name your last national championship in any of the three major sports.

Name the last time you were even in contention for either of the above.

    I'll wait.

    Man, I feel for you.

When you have to caveat your special teams improving with "other than two punts" blocked/shanked, it really says you had nowhere to go but up.

I think Charlie Strong once had multiple extra points blocked in a single game but couldn't figure out how to fix it. You never realize how valuable basic ST execution is until you have a team that sucks at it.

Yeah Pittman gave our ST coach Scott Fountain a big raise to come with him from Georgia but other than his recruiting our fans aren't real impressed with him thus far. We were dead last in the SEC in nearly every special teams category possible last year and had multiple illegal formations on punts throughout the year. Of course the excuse last year was we would have guys out with COVID at the end of the week and we were forced to put guys on special teams that hadn't practiced there, but every team dealt with that. For the most part we didn't even try to return punts and had a walk-on DB back there (who actually played at Lake Travis) because he could fair catch them well.

It's so bad that we're using scholarships on both a punter and a long snapper in the '22 class after using one on a kicker in '21.

Lmao you made another account to try and continue to prove this shitty point. Any list that lists Fayat ahead of Fort Collins,Seattle, Colorado Springs, San Fran etc. is high on Arkansas toilet meth. Every articles reason for ranking it highly is…eh, it’s cheap? It’s a fine town, but it’s also the peak of your state by a wide margin whereas Texas has at least 5 larger metro areas. As far as education, please use these same dumb ranking sites to compare our respective schools. All of this also has nothing to do with your shitty football team.

Not sure that being a larger metro area equates to a better place to live really. Some people love it but others would hate to live in a place like Houston.

How is Arkansas special teams?  Rice blocked a punt and didn't someone say they had a 25 yard punt during the game?  Does the kicker get it out of the endzone, or will Jamison have a chance to make a big return?

They were probably the worst of any P5 team last year and directly lost a few games because of it. But other than two punts (one block, one shank) and a fumble (which we recovered) on a kickoff return I thought they were much better last game. Almost every kickoff went through the endzone, coverage was good, and our highly touted freshman kicker didn’t miss an extra point or his one field goal. Also had a 40 yard return at one point.

Not sure if we will use the same punter because the starter got injured in fall camp and missed the game against Rice.

I'll admit that Arkansas does look to be headed in the right direction under Pittman and having little Briles as an OC doesn't hurt. I am not sure what kind of crack Morris was smoking but God damn his time at Arkansas was a train wreck. I suspect y'all will get better but it might take another season to clean up the Chad Morris disaster. In short, Arky isn't ready yet. Prepare your anus for the Longhorn beefsteak.

Saw where Morris broke Allen’s 80-something game win streak in just two games. Pretty unbelievable he lasted as long in college as he did.

  19. 2 hours ago, gmr548 said:

That's because they do not think they will win.

I think we all know Texas should be favored but since it’s only been one game so far this year we just don’t know enough yet to predict much beyond that. I don’t think it will be 52-10 like some have said lol.

First games are weird though. We struggled with Rice but OU struggled with Tulane and Iowa State with Northern Iowa. Aggy almost lost to Vandy in the first game last year.

Hey we actually won that one. Of course it was the last one Petrino coached.

So frustrating the amount of times we go into OT with them and shoot ourselves in the foot with a new, unbelievable way to lose. We lost to them in 2014 due to the only tripping penalty called in the SEC the entire year 😂

Baby Briles is a good coordinator (and so's Odom for that matter). They're just dealing with lesser materials.

I haven't completely given up on Briles yet but he wasn't great with Florida State talent either. I will say last year I thought he did a good job with Franks and we finished 8th in the SEC in total offense, so middle of the pack isn't bad at all considering where we were before. There's just so much inconsistency, we'll look unstoppable one drive then look like we've never played football before at times. And the cutesy trick plays and misdirection get a bit much. We tried a QB sneak on essentially 4th and 3 against Rice...just not sure what he thinks sometimes. But he does have his moments of creativity where he looks like a genius.

Either way some think this may be his last year here, he hasn't stayed anywhere very long and could end up back in Texas somewhere. I liked the hire but I'll admit it did seem like an odd mesh of styles with Pittman.

They did fine.  They didn't make mistakes, but I didn't see a lot of potential beyond following blocks.  I'm a little surprised the starter hit 100 yards.  I thought the freshman showed more potential, but his snaps were reasonably limited.

Smith was damn good against Auburn and Florida last year, but literally every back beyond him on the depth chart is unproven and/or young. The backup does have more potential from a size/speed perspective though. I’m curious to see how they divide up the carries on Saturday.

I managed to find a recast of this supposed game Arkansas played last week.

    ----

They have a young QB.  He can run very well.  He has accuracy issues and his teammates don't help him much.  The OL allowed a lot of pressure and the Arkansas WRs vs Rice secondary appeared to be an even matchup.

The OLs run blocking against Rice was okay.  They struggled to hit the second level but they didn't give up losses and seemed to get some push.  The Arkansas RBs aren't great.  There were a lot of yards left on the field.  Not a stretch at all to say the QB might be their best runner.  The Arkansas turf also appeared pretty loose and it affected both team's RBs at times.

    ----

The Arkansas safeties and LBs play the run well and rally to the football.  The LB corps was on a targeting-penalty rotation with 3 players out at different times of the game.  No one stood out but the backups didn't have any drop off.  WLB Bumper Pool (actual name) will miss the first half of our matchup.  The best Arkansas player is SS Jalen Catalon.  His play is a lot like BJ Foster. He's great in run support, but also gave up a 40ish yard TD on a blown coverage. Double moves were a consistent problem in man coverage, but their zone defense is really loose and had a few major busts.  The secondary did pull in 3 poorly-thrown interceptions and these are what kept the game from getting really dicey for Arky.

The DL was able to get a fair amount of pressure when they needed to, and they kept the second level clean to make tackles.  Rice did have a few nice runs, but their offense just wasn't ever really a threat to sustain a drive on the ground.

Pretty fair assessment. IIRC it was CB LaDarrius Bishop who gave up the long TD pass though, at least he was the one trailing the WR by about 15 yards. We really need to find a better 2nd corner - DB Myles Slusher may get some PT there this weekend after being held out with a minor injury last Saturday.

I thought the RBs did fine, averaged nearly 6 YPC but maybe it was on the OL I haven't analyzed it that much. The drops really hurt and we could have had 1-2 more TDs if we didn't have crucial drops that killed drives...also might have gotten KJ's completion percentage above 70% despite a poor game passing the ball from him. Treylon Burks dropping 2-3 passes is very uncharacteristic of him.
