Well sure, but the other things are maybe even more important in conjunction with the lack of a state tax or higher taxes (the tax burden is just a cherry on top). No other place where my house could have more than doubled in value in a hot RE market in 5 years has such a great cost of living and mix of economic center with great jobs/pay in relative abundance to choose from.

New Hampshire's booming. Its housing market is running wild, its unemployment rate is 2.5%, and its tax burden is much lower than Texas'.   The same is true of Colorado.

But the point that I took issue with was that Texas has "no state tax."  That's just untrue.

Cost of living + good jobs/salaries + no state tax = disposable income for cool things (has always been my take on why it's cool to live in Texas)

You must not own a house or buy things.

There are currently 17 states with lower total tax burdens than Texas.

Still, Alwaleed, who once described Trump on Twitter as a “disgrace not only to the GOP but to all America,” kept those early deals in mind. When Trump made fun of him on Twitter two years ago, Alwaleed responded by tweeting, “I bailed you out twice; a 3rd time, maybe?”

Late last year, Kushner made another secretive trip alone to Riyadh. He later described the visit as an effort to “brainstorm” Middle East strategies with Mohammed bin Salman. Not long afterward, the crown prince placed dozens of prominent businessmen and political rivals under house arrest in what was described as an anti-corruption drive. Among them was Alwaleed, the man who once snatched the Plaza Hotel and yacht from Kushner's father-in-law.

In a Quinnipiac University survey that was carried out this summer, seventy-five per cent of Republican respondents said they trust Trump more than the news media to tell them the truth about important issues. Just sixteen per cent said they trust the news media more than Trump.

To be fair, Donald probably says a lot worse to Melania when they are in private.  Still, not sure why she thinks she deserves sympathy.  She signed up for that.  Trump has been an asshole forever.  She married him knowing he was an asshole because she wanted his money.  I guess the money is still there for now.  She should shut the fuck up and go swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck.

But when she married Trump, he was a liberal Democrat who loved the Clintons. Now he's done a complete 180, politically.

Sorry about your neighbor, sounds like you live in a bad neighborhood. Smart people strive to make their family situation administration proof, at least to the best of their abilities. Your insistence to characterize Trump voters as red necks that could eat corn on the cob through a picket fence will continue to serve your side poorly, so thank you.

I didn't characterize Trump voters as anything.

She is going to get destroyed over this in the primaries.  She doubled down on a blatant lie.

Trump has doubled down on thousands of blatant lies. He did not get destroyed in the primaries.

Or is it your claim that Dems are more moral than Republicans and will destroy Warren over a lie when Republicans are doubling down on a proven liar?

Stick to the economy and he should win.

That's because people are both greedy and shortsighted and will mortgage their children's future in order to a little  more "butter" for themselves today.  Smart people will  convince themselves that things like fracking don't run enormous risks of long-term damage to the environment, for example.

I had a neighbor once back there in Texas who I knew had a pretty average tech job. His wife was a teacher.  Yet they were living like kings and queens. He was always showing me his new boat or car or bragging about the vacation they were going to take.  I wondered how they could afford all this and thought that she must come from money.  Turned out they'd refinanced their house a couple of times, drove their credit card debt through the roof etc... It all came to a head when they got foreclosed upon.  Now, from his FB posts, they've divorced and he's living in a small rent house in Plano. Plano.

But for about 6-7 years they were living the life, I'll tell you.
