I assume the door was designed to prevent a mass shooter from entering getting since the swat guys used a key to enter the room.

Oh.  So all that training to lock the door AND move as much heavy shit behind the door is just to give us extra work while we move the kids to a corner.  Your assumptions are horrible.  The only thing that has been done with locks at most schools has been a request to keep them locked with doors ready to close.

Thanks for the recommendations. Having fun with this setup. I had an old Copenhagen style recliner that we were about to get rid of but it works quite well with the stand. Thrustmaster T300 and GT Omega Apex stand. 7 year old is able to just reach the pedals with a pillow and the foot stand tilted up.

  3. The Wire is my favorite show.  I love Treme and probably spent more time researching New Orleans, Katrina, and the Indians then I did watching the show.  I'm a big Steve Earle fan, and this became one of my favorites of his.

Where the hell were you two days ago? I went to Floores Saturday night for Old 97s and hit up Helotes Country Club beforehand. Thanks for nothing.

WTF!!!! Damn it.  I can't believe I completely missed that show.

  5. As a teacher of High School Juniors and Seniors, I get plenty  of random questions.  I don't mind talking about out of course things with my students...it builds some relationships.  Last week someone asked me what my favorite song was.  I paused for a second, but then it came to me like it always does.  "True Faith" by New Order.   Although I have plenty of songs I love (Regret is a close 2nd) , "True Faith"  is always my answer to that question. Perfect song at the perfect time in my life.

Do you have a definitive favorite that you would mention every time that question is asked?

    Post here.

  6. After 50 years, TISCA Water Polo crowned their last champions a couple of weeks ago. St. Marks Boys and Flower Mound Girls.

Now the sport is officially UIL and will pick back up on August 1st.  When I played there were maybe 40 teams in Texas.  St. Mark's was around back then, but not yet the power they are now.  Unfortunately for them, they aren't UIL.  Check out the Alignment now and the number of teams.

  7. HS teacher/coach.  I don't usually get much of anything with monetary value.  But every year, including this year, I get a couple of notes from students in my mailbox.  It was probably some assignment, but some of them are obviously sincere. More often then not, the ones that thank me the most don't even mention the course work.  It's always about my classroom environment, and how they look forward to being there.  That is all I need in terms of appreciation.

Meanwhile, my wife spends a week getting gift bags ready for our ALL of our boys elementary school teachers, coaches, specialists, librarians, etc.  I think they are the ones that make a killing : )

What is  your budget? You can do a cheap 2” spacer lift, add some wheel adaptors, and throw on a set of JL Rubicon take off tires and wheels and not break the bank. Would look good and ride similar to stock. You can install a higher end kit and drastically improve the ride and handling. Really just comes done to what your willing to spend.

Budget won't be a major issue.  I'm ok with investing some since I really haven't done much, other than get bikini tops and such.  But I don't need to go "highest" end.  I don't mind approaching the higher end if it means I'll be very pleased with my decision.  Some family members (two in the auto industry) suggested I just order all the parts I want, and then just find a good mechanic to do the work, rather than go to an off-road place.  Thoughts on that?  Seems to make sense.

  9. Are there messicans in Austin anymore?  I thought they all got pushed out towards Pflugerville, some outskirt, or something.  When I was coaching soccer that was what was happening. Lonestar...big tall physical blonde kids with no soul.  Pflugerville...fast little Hispanic kids who pissed me off but I cheered for. Georgetown, a combination of both.

But just kidding..... a little.  Bitter SA fan and all :)

  10. First time playing  a GT game.  Lots of fun.  I assumed I would need to get a wheel/pedal setup, but so far so good.  Just working through the Music tracks and my 7 year old was having fun giving it a shot.

  11. This is my 99.  I'm the original owner and I'm still under 130,000 miles.  I'm never going to sell it, and I want my boys to learn to drive standard on it.  This summer I'm finally going to do a lift.  The only thing I ever did was go up to 31.5 tires.  What lift and tire size would you all recommend?  This is obviously not a daily driver and I won't be doing a whole lot of off-roading.  I just want it to not look like a mail truck when I'm next to newer jeeps.

Sticky Willy? We have some that grows yearly close to where a greenbelt creek butts up against my st. Augustine yard.  I usually just pull or rake it up in the spring.  Way behind this year and it's pretty thick.  I think it usually dies back once it gets warmer.

  13. Thanks! I found it so interesting that these are in the ground.  Insects seem sort of harmless, and actually avoided me as i worked in the area.  I just focused on cleaning up as much of the oak runners and gall clusters.  Trying to get that area healthy again.

  14. Are these a type of Oak Gall?  As I'm collecting leaves, I started seeing these all over the ground in an area with a heavy outbreak of Oak Suckers. Tiny gnats emerging and lingering around the surface of the ground. The galls are actually in the ground, maybe even attached to the suckers.

  15. Found these in/on the ground in an area of my St.Augustine where I’m having trouble controlling oak shoots. Thousands of gnats emerging from these clusters and just hanging around the ground. Only seems to be happening where the oak shoots are. Not where the grass is more dominant. What the hell are they? 1e37b7d1b5af0e5dc53bf5ca321baa9e.jpg

Dios mio. I looked it up, and apparently somebody has dumped money on it and destroyed it by fancying it up.

Last time I was there they were about to start the transformation.  Still came out reeking like cigarettes.  I guess they added a "beer garden" in back?
