  1. First time I've heard him speak. If a presser by the head coach is a predictor of things to come, they're in a world of hurt.
  2. Light years ahead of where the QB room was a year ago. Now, for that O-line...
  3. Wasn't there a scrimmage today? Not hearing even a peep about how things went...
  4. I would agree. I'd approach it in similar fashion to timeouts... you just don't burn them early because you're very likely to need them in the end. Save every game possible so the last 4 of the year you can use them at will as the grind of a long season and injuries take their toll.
  5. With Warren, let's see how things play out in Oakland during the regular season before calling anything a success. It's still pre-season and way early to make any assessments. On all the various transfers, I'm just chalking it up to a myriad of things like a complete culture change and being recruited over. It's very clear CS's evals were largely garbage and it isn't taking long for his recruits to get passed up on the depth chart. Toss in a completely different culture/program than most of them committed to and it makes some sense. When we start seeing THs recruits transferring with regularity I'll start wondering a bit.
  6. Watching some NFL pre-season games and it's glaringly obvious most of our guys who left early weren't anywhere near ready for the NFL. By all accounts, they were advised not to go and still did, which says something about the level of buy-in this team had last year. Gives me some real hope we can be quite a bit better this year. Better depth, second season with the same offensive/defensive schemes, and apparently much better program buy-in across the board.
  7. Completely agree. I think TH and staff were caught off-guard how quickly A&M was able to gather momentum and it likely cost us some recruits we'd love to have. It also seems pretty obvious they're willing to roll the dice on a very good season this year and the momentum that will ensue if we do. I think it's at least 9 regular season wins to move the meter with this years recruits. 8 wins is expected, 7 under-performing. It'll take at least 9 to get the attention of those on the fence and waiting to see how things play out.
  8. Slowly, but surely the class is coming together. Not sure it'll be top 3 like last year, but should be top 10 at worst. Win 9+ and exceed expectations and we might get into that top 3-5 range.
  9. Pretty much my thoughts as well. Outside of the obvious attempt to shift the narrative and focus, which I'm hoping means those under the microscope know the spotlight is getting very bright, I keep wondering what in the world TH did to Meyer. For a guy who helped him win a national title Meyer sure likes to dump on TH whenever he can.
  10. I'm not making any excuses for Mehringer or rationalizing anything. Just relaying the gist of what TFB is putting out there on the situation and my observation they've been spot on the vast majority of recruitments the last couple years. I enjoy your posts and insight as well. In this case I think it's very likely your take/info and theirs are both accurate.
  11. Yep. TFB appears to be as dialed-in as it gets these days. I'll take their word for things until proven otherwise.
  12. Paraphrasing, TFB is saying they spoke to Wilson directly and he emphatically stated Mehringer was not an issue and he and Beck were his two faves on the staff. Also sounded like unless there's a complete implosion in Columbus, meaning both Meyer and Ryan Day are not retained, he's sticking. If he does eventually look around they expect Texas, OU and the new staff at Ohio St to be the main players. No mention of A&M.
  13. Sure hope that's what happens. TH needs to fill the staff with superstars at every coaching position. Oddly, it would take winning this year and definite progress to convince those types to join the staff. Win at a decent clip and it makes ditching a few of the under performing coaches a less obvious move. But, making the tough decision is what coaches like Saban do all day long. We'll see if TH has it in him. If he doesn't hopefully CDC does.
  14. Aren't EJ and Roach attached at the hip? There's not a ton of credibility right now with the complete misreads on Tufono and Wright. TFB are about the only one's I put much stock in these days.
  15. Pretty much my take on it. Recruited exceedingly well at Houston and thought the same formula would work here. Transition class was a major struggle, but made up for it during his first full class and assumed it would carryover to this one as well. Didn't cut the dead weight, most likely out of loyalty and a false sense of security due to last years class. Jimbo and A&M paid bank for a staff full of mercenaries and put their foot not only on the gas but through the floorboard. Meanwhile, we're taking the slow, steady pace, which is very risky given the early signing period. In the end, I think we end up Top 10 in recruiting. A&M likely top 5-7 and OU roughly the same. TH will have to make some changes this off season and hopefully CDC will prod if he doesn't and ensure he's looking for bigtime assistants as opposed to comfort hires.
  16. I'm with you on that. He doesn't seem the type to settle, so hopefully post-season there's that annual review of all things football and the weak spots addressed in short order..
