Texas tackling has regressed. Too many people trying to force TO vs tackling.

Poor LB play. Texas currently has zero real playmakers on defense. There’s no one opposing OCs have to scheme around. Rather there are players like Locke and Wheeler they plan to expose.

Lots of indecision, mistakes and down right "Brain Farts" occurring on Defense.  Time to run more base defense and simplify..... at least then players are more often in the right spots so they can cut it loose and just play football.

Too much confusion occurring on Defense for TEXAS...... poor play at LB and NB along with youthful mistakes by the Safeties and younger CBs......

We don't need a big name staff. We need coaches that recognize when something isn't working and adjust. Orlando is stubbornly sticking with a 3-2-6 that is being easily exploited. He's been badly out coached two weeks in a row. If Orlando won't adjust, Herman needs to step in and make him adjust. That's his job.

If you can’t watch this season and see the overall progress then idk what to tell you. Sam will be the best QB in the Big 12 next year and you have to believe our defense will be at least slightly better by default.

Orlando and Herman have to coach their asses off this week...... keep this young team together and improving.

Omenihu's interview after the game showed a high level of frustration almost bordering on a lack of hope.

situational play calling in very key spots is our biggest problem. 2nd and goal at the 1 you can not call plays that will lose you 4 yards. you do not run sideways. the same on the 4th and short in the 4th quarter. Sam ran sideways. Those two play calls were the key to the game. Even with those missed opportunities that turned 14 points into 3 it took OSU to drive the field and score a TD and 2 pt'er at the end. the offensive coaches just have to focus and understand what you have to do and absolutely can't do in the important spots that define the game.

In hindsight, lots of decisions can be questioned in close games.

I wrote a question earlier when this Team was 6-1..... How good was this Texas Team really factoring in only one big Win vs BlowU??

Struggling against KState and Baylor were early indicators that the HORNS might have difficulty with all of the remaining B12 Teams on their schedule except hopefully Kansas.

Really surprised that Orlando's group has digressed so much..... and now with all the injuries on the defensive side of the ball, gonna be tough to Win in Lubbock.

Gonna take a hell of a week of coaching on Defense to Beat the Red Raiders...... Time for Orlando to earn his money.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Btw....Still expecting to see more experience to be added to the analysts and Quality Control groups for 2019 because gameplanning and opponent preparation have been poor this Season.

My first thought after waking up was I hate Todd Orlano's fucking face.

All the steroids he used to do have made him ugly and stupid.

Not a fan of ex-players being coaches anyway.

This is the big takeaway, I think. S&P+ had us at exactly 8.5 wins before tonight. Most likely scenario is we end up with 8/9 wins and a spot in the Camping World Bowl / Alamo Bowl.

Which, honestly, isn't all that bad.

    Tough loss against West Virginia.....

Hard to believe how poorly the TEXAS Defense is playing right now. Need to keep this Team together and Win in Lubbock...... Would be great for a TEXAS Win in the Iowa State game to mean BlowU would probably have to beat West Virginia in Morgantown to make the B12 Championship.

Great game by Offense against West Virginia.  Still a lot of room to even get better.  Hope Collin stays for next Season..... not sure LJH will return for 2019 based on some reports by 9.95er's.....

Burton quote: "BJ Foster not being in the game cost Texas some speed on defense."

Anybody know why Foster was not in the game??

Just saw answer in one of other write-ups..... (below)

Quick thought no. 2: Texas has a massive problem on defense

I think that's obvious enough. West Virginia forced Texas out of their dime package in this game because Texas couldn't do the one thing that makes the dime package such a deadly answer to these Air Raid attacks...stop the run. It wasn't a schematic issue, although B.J. Foster wasn't bringing enough size to the edge on the Mountaineers' stretch runs. Texas is going to keep seeing that play every week because it picks at their biggest weakness, lack of either lateral agility OR decisive play from Mac LB. This was Anthony Wheeler's worst game as a Longhorn and I say that knowing that

    A) By all accounts he's a great kid who's giving everything he can for the program and
    B) Saying this was his worst game is really saying something because he's been a sieve much of the year.

It was bad though. Texas kept getting creased on stretch runs as WVU would double the nose AND the play side DE because they knew that Foster wasn't strong enough to set a hard edge and because they knew they didn't need to block Wheeler if they could get a stretch by blocking up the DL. If you tried that on an Iowa State LB or that GarrettWallow kid at TCU you'd be watching him run through the line to inflict TFL after TFL.

Eventually Texas moved to nickel so that they could free up that play side DE to avoidthe double and that limited some of the damage but the double team of the nose stillgave Wheeler fits. Then the Mountaineers had this little formation, which was good for about 10 yards whenever they wanted it:

One more thing.  Sam now holds the record for most pass attempts without an interception in the big 12.  Impressive improvement on one of his weaknesses.

    +1. (Out of reps)

Wish the rest of this team played as hard/as well as Sam.

Dude continues to progress and impress. I am humbled.

Except for needing a better push on a few plays from OL, the entire offense had a good game.....Tre, LJH, and Sam were outstanding!!

eddie showed out as a senior.

but that's kinda my point. average to good players like eddie jones, kheeston randall, cedric reed etc. would be an upgrade over what we have right now.

cedric reed was a bit of a whipping boy around here by his senior season. he had 19 career sacks. breckyn hager has 11 career sacks yet he's on all the football marketing. so sick of the bar being lowered around here.

Yeah Hager has been a huge disappointment his Senior Year.  Wish he wasn't hurt though....

Title of this thread is now more true than ever. Defense can’t get a stop. Play like points left on the table in the second and third quarter might come back to bite you in the ass because they probably will.

Yeah...... Became obvious last week against Okie Lite that the HORNS Defense was overrated this year.  Poor play at LB and NB.... as well as terrible run support by Sterns have been exposed during the last two losses.  Not real pleased by CB play either although Boyd had a better game tonight.

Defense hopefully fixes  some of their issues next week and PLEASE CREATE SOME TURNOVERS...... Offense has to keep scoring more points and build larger leads to help HORNS Win games during the next 3 games....

There's been a lot of criticism of the d-line. They weren't the problem today. The linebackers were terrible, as were the safeties. The d-line is supposed to eat up blocks and allow the line backers to make plays. But they are doubling the tackle and end to the play side and our linebackers and safeties consistently take themselves out of the play or miss tackles. Our scheme is designed to funnel plays to the weakest unit on the team. I'm sure Tech and ISU will build off of what OSU and WVU ran against us. I not at all sure that Orlando will have a response.

Yeah...... When you 're funneling plays to LBs and Safeties and they constantly aren't in position to make plays.... YOU'RE GONNA SUCK

This team is exactly what most of you thought it would be this season.  Decent. No better, no worse.  We flirted with Top 10 and most of you went fucking aggy and started assuming we had turned the corner that quick.  If you are surprised by this it's your own fault.  We are a decent team with a few superstars and mostly decent guys filling out the rest of the roster and decent coaches.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Shut the fuck up already.

Go back and read your pre-season predictions.  Every one of you would have been pretty damn happy with this season so far back then.  That's not me claiming a moral victory. Fuck this loss... fuck all these losses.  But they were expected unless you're a fucking moron.

Yep.... Most said 8-4 or 9-3

So many on this thread have all the answers on why Herman caused this loss..... Funny as Shit
