One of my best friends when I lived in Seattle went to WSU.  When they hired Leach, I told him I was so excited for them bc they were going to go from Wulff to ranked within a few years.  He believed at first, but after they went 3-9 in Leach's 3rd season, I could tell he'd kind of given up.

Since that 2014 season, they haven't won fewer than 8 games.  It was fun texting with him on the game day weekend.

I'm not certain Leach will ever win anything beyond a conference championship, but I am certain he could take over anywhere in the country and, given enough time, get them to 8+ wins/year regularly.  Wazzu was Kansas bad when he took over and they may win the pac12 this year.

Time to spread rumor on The Pirate as next KU coach..... back to B12 to whip the west Texas Dirt Aggies....

The sphere of influence are the Alvarez and Osbourne types. These influencers can really shape the committee's opinions based on their old school perceived biases.

I honestly don't know if they are still on it but wouldn't surprise me if they hold ranking power if they are.

Who is on the College Football Playoff committee?

    Bill Hancock, Executive director
Ron Mullens, Chair Oregon athletic director
    Joe Castiglione, Oklahoma athletic director
Chris Howard, Robert Morris University president
Herb Deromedi, former Central Michigan coach
Jeff Bower, former Southern Miss coach
Ronnie Lott, former USC defensive back
    Bobby Johnson, former Vanderbilt coach
    Scott Stricklin, Florida athletic director
Gene Smith, Ohio State athletic director
Frank Beamer, former Virginia Tech coach
Paola Boivin, former reporter for The Arizona Republic
Ken Hatfield, former Rice, Air Force, Clemson, Arkansas coach
Todd Stansbury, Georgia Tech athletic director

Thx..... appreciate the chart each week.

No doubt, they are trying to protect the Redshirts for the trenches.... OL/DL

Surprised Ossai has already used up his Redshirt chance this Season....

Yes, the contracts (except Orlando) all expire. But I think many coaches work on year to year contracts after their initial term. Not that it really matters.

    Thanks....Pretty sure Beck's expires Feb 2020.

    Found these quotes....

"By rule, regents are required to approve any multi-year contract or one worth more than $1 million. That included a three-year deal for offensive coordinator Tim Beck ($790,000 annually) and two-year contracts for others."

"The regents also are expected to approve a new $1.7 million annual salary for football defensive coordinator Todd Orlando with a one-year extension until March 2021. New co-offensive coordinator and line coach Herb Hand will get a three-year contract at $640,000 per year. (March 2021)"

This one was painful to read. For sure Orlando's worst coaching performance at Texas, even worse than the two Maryland games.

Unfortunately keeping Locke & Wheeler on the field is killing this Defense.  Late during 2017 B12 Season, Orlando moved both Locke & Wheeler to the bench.

Stick a GoPro camera on Boyd's helmet during practice this week.

  7. The most recent grad transfers

We’re almost done with October, and we’ve seen a couple more college football players eligible for graduate transfer.

Manny Bowen, a reserve linebacker, is leaving the Penn State squad to preserve his last year of eligibility. He will finish his degree, graduate in December, and be eligible for a new school in January.

D’Andre Plantin, a reserve offensive lineman, is done playing at Virginia Tech. He’ll be eligible for a graduate transfer in the spring.

Also, Justice Shelton-Mosley, a wide receiver, could be a graduate transfer from Harvard. There’s no indication that Shelton-Mosley is looking for a grad transfer, but he’s not eligible to return to the Crimson because of Ivy League injury rules.

A few more grad transfers to be

Over the last week or so, we’ve had a couple of guys reach out to us to help publicize their decisions to use the graduate transfer rule. We’re always happy to comply.

College football coaches, keep an eye out for these guys:

Ceejhay French-Love, a tight end out of Arizona State

Ean Pfeifer, an offensive lineman turned tight end out of Vanderbilt

  8. It's frustrating not having better options than Wheeler & Locke on Defense.  Late last Season, Orlando moved both Wheeler & Locke to the bench and had Malik & GJohnson at LBs, and Antwuan Davis at NB.

Orlando just got abused by Gundy and OSU's offensive staff.  Time for Coach Orlando to simplify his Defensive set-ups & calls so fewer mental mistakes occur and players can fly around in Defense.

Yeah man, don't be so sure about Wareheim OR Mehringer getting let go after this season. it may happen, but at this point it is hardly a foregone conclusion.

    Question on coaches contracts:

    1) Except for Orlando, Hand, and Beck, the rest of the asst coaches contracts expire in February 2019 right??

    2) If true, to retain these asst coaches with expiring contracts, Texas probably has to re-sign them for a minimum of 2 years right??

I’m not sure how LB play could get worse. Spread teams have pretty much murdered Wheeler. He’s up there for worst starting LB we’ve had over the last 10-15 years.

End of B12 Season last year when the Texas Defense improved, both Wheeler and Locke were on the bench.

As they continue to flip this Roster, Orlando's Defense might not be very good until late 2019 Season or 2020....

I would say that the offense is missing explosive players and more consistent run blocking from the OL.

Interesting quote about TEXAS passing offense by Coach V.....

"Maybe it’s just me but I have a hard time finding the separation needed with our guys at times but our opponents somehow find a way to evade our coverages too damn often. It must be noted that we make more catches in traffic so I guess it all evens out in the long run. It sure would be nice to see us get a few more gimme’s though."

  12. Anybody who understands Herman's offense vs Riley's offense please explain why BlowU gets more WRs open in space than TEXAS?

(I'm sure respecting the BlowU WR's speed/quickness is part of answer, but sure seems like sooners offense also does a much better job of schematically spreading the field both vertically & horizontally thereby creating  more larger holes in defenses.)

    .

Coach V's comment (below) reminded me of the above question:

"Maybe it’s just me but I have a hard time finding the separation needed with our guys (Texas) at times but our opponents somehow find a way to evade our coverages too damn often. It must be noted that we make more catches in traffic so I guess it all evens out in the long run. It sure would be nice to see us get a few more gimme’s though."
