  1. OUs RS freshman QB (that we all made fun of to start the year) is better after 7 games than 4 year starter Sam. That’s the reality of Sam as our QB.

And don’t chime in with “coaching!” Or “team around him!” Ratter has already made 2 or 3 throws this game Sam isn’t capable of.

    Didn’t Sam complete lik

He’s actually a really good pocket passer. He’s not a good deep ball passer. Short to intermediate passing he’s one of the best in cfb

Meh, I’d like to see some advanced stats on this. He definitely makes some good intermediate throws, but he also does shit like miss a 5 yard hitch by 8 feet or force our guys to jump to catch a screen pass totally fucking up play timing. That latter shit sticks out more to me but I’d like to see a real breakdown. What is definitely true is his completion percentage this year is not good.

If a new QB forces the coach to change his plan to cater to the talents of that QB then why did the coach not do this in the first place?   You speak of playmakers, outside of Bijan, who are the playmakers?  Wiley? Possibly.  Rojo? He was much more effective last year.

Yeah I mean Herman is a fucking moron. My hypothetical wishful thinking is Herman falling into something good despite himself. His blinding loyalty to Sam is possibly gonna cost him his job though, so whatever.

Regarding playmakers - Jake Smith drops balls but he’s nails. Man beater, quick as shit. He’s the reason the offense got going on the last drive against ok st. But we never get the ball to him on sweeps, screens, etc - we’d rather use Kai money and Epps for that, apparently. Joshua Moore will be an all big 12 guy if he gets a QB that can get him the ball. We all dislike Keontay because of a couple terrible fumbles and a worse drop but the dude chews up yards pretty effectively when given the chance. Brennan Eagles is a matchup nightmare (big, strong, FAST) and would probably catch 10 TDs a year playing for a better passing game. Then we have a guy like Marcus Washington rotting on the bench - a guy almost every team in the country would’ve taken when he signed.

Part of this shit is Herman not putting guys in a position to succeed and a lesser part is Sam not being accurate enough to get the ball in a spot where they can use their talent (go rewatch our games and see him throw inaccurate screens and airmail 5 yard hitches). A more creative offensive coach would get the ball into guys hands quickly as opposed to relying on 5 step drops and longer developing routes. Maybe if Herman were forced to be more creative we’d do that. But probably not, because Herman is a fucking moron.

Compare those junior years for a minute. Same number of games but 100 more attempts for Sam. He was also our best run option lulz. There’s maybe 5 QB’s who have ever played college football that could handle that kind of pressure and maintain top tier results man. He’s spent 4 years now with a head coach that continually shits the bed. At some point something has to give and unfortunately it was Sam who broke down first. I could be way off here but Sam was never going to be the QB that could make a bad offense win 12 games. The system blows which we are all well aware of but I can’t bring myself to blame Sam for any of it. Call me a homer lol.

Crazy thought here, but could it be that the offense is bad in part because the QB is exceedingly mediocre? Shit man, in the junior year you just referenced he was throwing to two NFL WR, had a LT who likely would have likely been a first round pick if he’d declared, a possible NFL OL at the other tackle, a 4 year starter at center  and a former (1st team?) all ACC guard. And we ended up scoring less points than a mediocre Baylor offense and about the same as OkSt and Iowa St.

I get we don’t have the embarrassment of riches as an Alabama or Clemson, but NO blame? It ain’t all on Sam but it’s about time we recognize what an utter failure it that we’ve run him out for 4 years.

...Replacing Sam isn’t going to fix the offense if the WRs cant catch, the line cant block, and Tom puts Brewer out there more than Wiley or targets brewer over Moore and has our QB with more rush attempts than our stud RB.

Not even getting into the rest of this argument, this isn’t necessarily true. Playing a different QB might actually force Herman to call more plays that get the ball into play makers hands quickly, instead of this absurd offense where we try to make Sam a great drop back passer. And if that guy is fast and can rip a few long runs or can hit a deep ball with any semblance of regularity, even better.

Either way if what we’re getting from Sam (whether hurt or not) is the best QB on our roster, we’re proper fucked the next few years.

Edit to add: I didn’t really respond to your statement, because I don’t necessarily agree with your premise that our line can’t block and our WR can’t catch. They could be better for sure but our top 3 RB are averaging 5 yards a carry (Sam averaging 3.6 with 90 carries to their ~150) and we’ve had a couple of untimely or bad drops but way more balls just haven’t been that catchable, imo.

Fuck dude. Yes Sam sucks. He makes 1 acceptable pass out of every 10 or so. Sam is a terribly inaccurate thrower of the football. He didn't come off his 1st read at all that series, even though Robinson was wide open 2 or 3 times. That is part of the problem, Sam wants the chunk plays even though he sucks at completing them instead of moving the chains.

NO ITS EVERYONE ELSES FAULT! QUIT BEING MEAN TO SAM!

This year, the football has been absolutely unwatchable. This is last year of strong level bad when it comes to penalties, mental errors, bad tackling, and players underperforming. We have only won the two road games in overtime because the other teams somehow made even more mistakes than we did.

This is just it - it’s not necessarily that we suck that infuriates me, it’s HOW. Stupid penalties, missed assignment and tackles and lacking situational awareness. Hallmarks of bad coaching. Gets this fraud the fuck out.

OU probably not. The others yes and you do compete with them. On similar levels

1-6 over last 7 v TCU. Very competitive.

Isnt your whole premise that it’s unfair to judge Herman against Bama, tOSU, Clemson because they get better talent? But apparently Herman is doing fine being competitive with ISU despite the HUGE gap in talent?

Stick to the NFL dude, because you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about here .

Newsflash. Texas is a middling program. Sooner you realize it the happier you'll be just watching the game to enjoy it.

The only hope you have is to hire Urban and hope he can bring a big enough share of those five stars with him just by reputation. if they aren't getting the numbers that Alabama and Clemson and Ohio State get they will never compete with them.

What about the talent compared to OU or TCU or ISU? Should they compete with them, Bob?

For an ivy leaguer you sure have a stupid fucking opinion on this one.

  10. I regret an angry post or two here. Sam wasn’t great today but seeing him sing the eyes by himself is a real bummer. He at least gives a shit which it seems like is more than can be said for the bulk of our team. I don’t know what to make of his leadership - really bizarre to see a captain left out by himself like that (did the team decide they wouldn’t sing the eyes and Sam defied that? Was it left up to each player and no one else cared to stand with their captain ?), but given the general jackassery of this team, it seems to be a them problem more than a Sam problem.

Most of my - and probably others here - frustration stems from the fact that I really believed he would develop into a great player, but it just hasn’t been there. The inability to throw even a semi catchable deep ball is truly confounding, as is his regular blow up quarters. IMO he’s doesn’t have the talent to last more than a couple NFL seasons but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been a solid college QB who can win when shit falls right. Unfortunately our program is so fucking broken we’ve seen where that gets us - a .600 win percentage, 1-4 against OU and one season where we sorta competed for a conference championship.

Theres a decent chance we end up worse off when he leaves, but we’ve seen where we end up with him and that’s not cutting it either. It’s not all on Sam (if we’re picking between him and his arrogant prick of a coach it’s a no brainer) but I’m ready to turn the page.

  11. I’ll eat a little crow for some hyperbole. He’s not ass, he’s very mediocre guy who plays better with his back against the wall, but as soon as he started having to throw the ball down the field against a non prevent defense we were fucked. The difference in the OT was Rattler made a bunch of throws Sam isn’t capable of.

But plenty of y’all are gonna come on here and say what a dumbass anyone who is critical of Sam is, so whatever.

Pack it up, season is a bust. Maybe our next 3+ year starter will win something of consequence.

  12. He’s ass, my dudes. I hope the rumors of “he hates Herman and won’t come back” are true.

And all the numbnuts who continue to defend him - You’re part of the problem. Demand more for our school. Riley fucking benched a dude who outplayed him.

  14. Double post... Sorry.

Ill edit to say our line also sucks shit through a straw as does our head coach - another week, another instance of getting out coached.

Hes a top 4 qb in school history

without him, herman would likely already be gone.

He will stick in the nfl for a while. Some of yall are idiots

He’ll “stick” in the NFL? So he’s maybe Chase Daniel? Cool.

Maybe he is top 4 in school history -we’ve had 4 win NCs, and Colt, but obviously 60s were a different type of football- but that says more about our QB history than Sam being great imo.

You’d think they would make an adjustment after that play. You’d be wrong.

Yeah text my brother circa 2nd or 3rd quarter basically “The QB draw is there for a TD whenever they want it.” I was already 2 cocktails in and could see it. Ash couldn’t.

I don’t think many of us are blaming him for the loss. We had multiple chances to win and never made the play. Including him.

This. Plenty of blame to go around, including the QB who completed less than 50% of his passes. People on here wanna pretend like all the other players are letting Sam down when he’s as much at fault as the rest.
