They haze new teachers in HISD and my ex's first job was kindergarten at Louisa May Alcott in Sunnyside. She got them to draw pics of their homelife and let's just say about half of them depicted violent felonies. Lots of bloody knives, a parent on the ground bleeding, and tears flying out of kids' faces. Horrifying.

I went to kindergarten at LMA in Sunnyside.  I can see things changing over the last 50+ years.

Am I crazy or has it been windy as shit this winter?

Windy as fuck.  Went to track meet last Thursday evening.  Temps were in the low 50s and dropped to mid 40s while there.  Walking back to the car at the end, there were 20-30 mph steady winds if not 30-40 and up... most miserable I have ever been in cooler-cold weather.  There was not at thing block it either.

Back in January, as I was getting over what I assume was flu\RSV\cedar fever\corona***, wind gust blew my weber grill off the back porch.  (***I mention that because I thought I was going to die getting that sumbitch back on the porch)  It can be a bit of wind tunnel on my back porch but its still takes a lot to push that thing around.  I have had to retrieve once before in August of 2020 and that was because of microburst\tornadic conditions.

    They are spectacular

Week or so ago they showed them prominently as she was reading a clue.  I said 'That's a helluva shot.'  Wife replied, "yep".

The Indians are one of the worst teams I have ever witnessed and the amount of second chances they have gotten are unprecedented.  It's ridiculous.  I get they have to maybe stretch the show a bit but dang.

Too many other animals that can kill you in Australia. Sharks have a lot of competition there.

Reminds me of 'Crocodile Hunter' and he did a show about the 10 deadliest snakes in Australia.  Handled all but 1 or 2 or 3 of them because a bite would mean pretty much instant death.  What really got me is that he found 1 or two (less deadlier) of them on his property.

  5. I would have thought shark attacks in Australia would have been a lot more than reported below.

Also, given the Florida breakdown and the number of people that visit places like Destin, Miami Beach, etc... that is pretty light too.

    https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/shark-attacks/yearly-worldwide-summary/

    2021 Breakdown

    Country Total Fatal
    USA 47 1
    Australia 12 3
    Brazil 3 1
    Canada 1 0
    Ecuador 1 0
    New Caledonia 2 2
    New Zealand 3 1
    South Africa 3 1
St. Kitts and Nevis 1 0
    Worldwide 73 9

    US Breakdown

    U.S. State Total Fatal
    Florida 28 0
    Hawaii 6 0
    California 3 1
    South Carolina 4 0
    North Carolina 3 0
    Georgia 2 0
    Maryland 1 0
    Total Cases 47 1
  6. Wife and I are both vaccinated, no boosters.  No known cases before these.  Both had it starting around the second week of January.  Thought it was Cedar Fever or even the flu.  Did not really suffer a lot.  My taste buds went out of whack and we both felt like we could not get enough sleep and did feel weak.  Have made it through about a week of not needing a nap about two hours after getting up.

    Anyways, fuck this stuff.

  7. I have family ties in Waco going back over 120+ years.  It's a great place to live growing up if you don't know anything else exists north of West or south of Lorena.

Moved the family to Austin in 94 and never gave moving back second thought after graduating UT.  Our remaining parents still live in the area.

That top 10 list in addition to the Tornado brings up a lot of recollections from my own memories as well as stories told to me.

  8. Go China Spring! I actually saw that 78 team play. They lost to a higher classification school - Robinson. That Robinson team would have made a deep run if they would have had the two team per district rule then. The game itself was one of the best I have ever seen. Dave Campbell voted that CS team the best Class A team from the 70s.

How close to the true story is it?

I would say pretty damn close.  I watched 'Crime of the Century' and then this.  I think there are at least 1 or 2 things in the mini-series that were true that didn't get brought up in 'Crime of the Century'.

    Spoiler

On a side note, when my daughter was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago, I was noticing the pain level chart (faces expressing levels of discomfort) when the nurse walks in and asks her "What's your pain level?"  - i.e. the 'Fifth Vital Sign'.  Both introduced by Purdue.

I ask because I had qualifying results spoiled for me one time because I clicked on Auto Racing to find the on demand broadcast, and they have Highlights and Reactions thumbnails. I realized afterward that if you look for F1 under the Leagues category, you can get to the on demand broadcasts without any of the extra videos that will spoil results. I'm not sure if that's what happened to you, but just an FYI to anyone that might be running into this or hesitant to go into the ESPN app.

I have seen what you are talking about with this app.  When I prepped to watch yesterday, I was having some issues getting the app to load.  It sounds like I may have circumvented my usual route to the On Demand race stuff.

  11. Checo did nothing wrong with Lewis. Dude did some great driving.

I wanted Hamilton to win. Got tipped on the outcome when I was bringing up the OnDemand Broadcast. Knowing the outcome made the race no less entertaining. Checo and Hamilton going at it was nothing but racing. Great stuff.
