Not to the cowboys apparently Vic.  Or at least not higher than the LB/OG/WR holes filled earlier.  Other than Ford, not sure there's a guy left that's much more than a prospect or career backup at those spots. still 2 picks left though.

Well maybe they should see it as a concern. Our DTs are undersized. Even Irving even though he is a game changer. You would prefer some bigger guys up the middle. Like the route the Rams went with Darnold and Suh. I'd much rather have a stout middle of the line than edge rushers if you made me pick. Football is won from the inside out on both sides of the ball but we love to build outside in. And I get it. It's the sexy picks. DTs and safeties are not seen as flashy positions that get all the stats and recognition. But having great safety play is huge. They are the centerfielders of the secondary. Ask Seattle why their secondary was so damn good. Earl and Kam.

Was really hoping we could have made a deal with Seattle for Earl but I guess they weren't budging and it's too late now. Unless they would want picks for next year's draft. But this was the year to do it with all the comp picks we had and now you can trade them.

I liked that we addressed the missing piece on the OL and got LVE for MLB. Still wish they had addressed the DT and safety at the higher rounds. It's too late now.

    $7 million in 2018.

    What a joke.

He restructured his deal last month. Counts $5mill. Still a lot though for someone who won't do much at all unless he really transforms his game. $5mill is a lot for someone who caught 13 balls last year.

By all account from sources this truly was out of left field from the Cowboys perspective. They had no clue he was about to retire.

You think Dallas had no clue Witten was interviewing for a job in their own league? Please. They knew he had other aspirations outside of playing with them this season. They have 3 guys they got behind Witten with the idea they hope they would replace him. If they are confident with those guys, then this news is no real big deal.

Don't understand why Dallas has to have a TE in this draft. I'll miss Witten and he's one of my all time favorite players, but his athleticism fell off a cliff last season and he really struggled early in the season in run blocking. He hasn't been anything other than a "go to the sticks and turn around" receiving threat in 3 seasons.  He was only a slightly above replacement level player in 2017. They are called replacement level players for a reason.

I don't have a reason why I write this, but it feels like a defensive move tonight, whether that's a trade for Earl or a draft pick. Dallas is 1 piece away in the secondary and has completed their LB corp. The could complete either the DL or the secondary tonight and be mostly through the defensive rebuild the decided on after 2016 ended.

Finally some logic in here. Witten was nothing like he once was. It was beyond time to replace him. But for some reason, so many fans hold onto these players and berate anyone who is glad we could actually replace them. See Dez, Romo and Witten. All were sensationalized after the fact. Hell, people were more sad to see them leave than the triplets who actually had real success. Shrugs.

They've jumped through hoops to keep Jarwin/Swain/Gathers the last couple of years. They have to think they can play.

And finally they will get a legit chance to prove themselves. Witten being gone will do wonders for the TE position. No one ever got a legit chance to get reps and prove themselves. The who notion that everyone else sucks behind him is flawed. As long as Witten was on this roster, he would get all the reps and snaps. The guys behind him aren't getting on the field because of lack of talent but more like we owe Witten something for his years of service. Which is what you can't do in sports.

Dez and Witten were becoming dead weight to this offense. It will be a breath of fresh air with both of them gone. Go get a TE who can stretch the field and defenses have to respect. Witten was open constantly because teams gave zero fucks about him. They knew he was going nowhere after he caught his short pass. Now get a TE in here that teams have to respect, and it frees up the other WRs. Go look at offenses with them and they look drastically different than ours.

But I guess being happy and jumping with joy to try and improve the offense is frowned upon because he played with us so long. Meh. Players come and go every year. No one plays forever. Replacing Witten was a long time coming. Not going to pretend to be sad about it. Dude made millions. Has a nice family. Will receive a fat pension. Will go on and make millions sitting in a booth. Yeah, real sad.

Shut up Vic. Anyone being other than sad about Witten leaving is a fucking douche bag.

Yes its time to move on, but you could be less of a dick about it.

Also, no you’ll have Romo as lead on CBS. Troy as lead on Fox. Witten as lead on ESPN. And even Micheal Irvin as the most outspoken former player that’s a studio analyst on NFl network.

Chris Collinsworth better watch out. He’s the only non cowboy in that position now. Not sure who is next up...maybe Sean Lee?

Damn I was hoping we left your dumb ass behind. You still sound like the gaping vagina you always are. Crying about other people's opinions as always. Fuck off, loser.

I have been vocal about replacing Witten for years. Getting rid of Dez. They did both in a few weeks. Good for this offense.

But I'll let the others have a pity party.

  7. I liked the pick. Glad we did not waste a 1st rounder on a WR. The real value of those is later on. Defense is a pressing need right now. And we still have resources to try and trade for Earl. Really hope we get that done. Would make me a lot less nervous about this defense moving forward.

Still need to grab another LB as well. DT, too.

Go ahead and keep doing it their way.  Obviously must work.

The vet QB is a place holder, not the franchise QB.  You develop a mid-round QB.  But wasting 1st rounder after 1st rounder on a reach at QB and sticking him behind a shitty OL will result in what we've seen in Cleveland.

I am talking in general, not specifically to the players they draft. But getting a middle of the road vet is not a recipe of success.

The Browns are so stupid.  Draft a badass OL and stick a vet QB behind them.  Quit drafting undersized/shitty QBs every year.

Tell me how many teams win with this approach? Every single Super Bowl winning QB is prepped and seasoned by that team sans a couple of them. Any qB worth a damn is not on the open market.

  10. I think Baker might be the best QB of this draft. I put Lamar behind him. Not sold on Josh Allen at all. All of them have quite a few flaws, too. There isn't one guy you point to and can say with good conviction he can be a franchise QB like many said with Wentz and Goff.

  11. Not sure how true this is:

4/26: The Cowboys and Seahawks are discussing a trade for Earl Thomas, centered around the No. 50 pick. - Dan Graziano, ESPNReports indicate that the only thing holding this trade up is Dallas needing assurance that it can sign Thomas to a long-term deal. Considering Thomas begged the Dallas coaching staff to acquire him after the penultimate game of the year, the Cowboys should feel pretty confident they can get a contract done. -Walter
